    Air Coolers

I have one which I sometimes use outside during the hot season and the air it blows is a noticeably cooler than a regular fan. However, like many I originally bought it to use inside the house but abandoned this idea simply because it created too much humidity. It is also extremely noisy compared to a fan. If you use it on the highest speed it sounds like a jet engine!
  2. Disgusting. The problem with the vaccine rollout here is in many cases it's not who you are but who you know that counts. Nearly all the Thais I know in our village who have been vaccinated are between 20 and 40, most with "connections" to hi-so people or government employees who can pull the appropriate strings.
  3. What a shame... Tough luck, they are now no different from the convicts they "helped" to put away.
  4. If you (or your family) can no longer care for her then please put some effort in and find someone who will. The euthanasia option is insane! There are plenty of dog lovers in Thailand and lots of ways, social media for example to find a good home for your dog.
  5. I believe that these small table top ovens do have a reputation for not being particularly accurate with regards to temperature control. Remember that they are what they are, cheap appliances. We have one (not Sharp). With ours, I've long believed that the temperature control is nothing more than a high and low temperature setting. If I turn the temperature knob all the way up from the off position I can hear a click at around about the halfway point. This tells me that it is now in hot mode. If it doesn't click then the oven or the grill won't get hot and the elements won't glow red
  6. Maybe she does this after serving all customers?
  7. Being a ex-copper, he is going to have to watch his back with the other inmates once his lengthy prison sentence starts.
  8. No. I think generally it has been pretty quiet there recently. I renewed my marriage extension last month and I just turned up at about 12:45pm and was finished before 2:00pm.
  9. Do you mean the Kor Ror 2 If so, when I applied for my marriage extension at CM last month I was informed by the immigration officer that currently due to Covid restrictions it is not necessary to have a new Kor Ror 2 dated for this year. An old one will do.
  10. As far as I can make out, the vaccine rollout has so far accelerated about as fast as a tortoise riding an overloaded grocer's bicycle.
  11. I believe immigration does has the authority to check the balance of your account whilst you are under consideration. In fact I know someone who a few years ago foolishly withdrew money from their account whilst they were under consideration and they were called in by immigration before the date stamped in their passport to be told their marriage extension application had been refused because their funds had dropped below 400,000 baht. This was at Chiang Mai immigration. I actually stop and update my bank book on route to immigration on the day my under consideration period ends. I've never been told to do this or have I read that it is necessary, I just think it pays to think ahead and be prepared because one day....
  12. Once 70% of the population is finally vaccinated and everything starts to open up then the number of recorded cases will skyrocket. So in my humble opinion it is time to move on from publishing daily infection numbers and start giving us honest figures relating to how many have died and how many have been vaccinated.
  13. All this talk of aliens has got me spaced out. So I'm just off to create some crop circles.
  14. I can only speculate but I think in years to come Covid vaccines will be mandatory for all Thailand visas including non-O extensions.
  15. Rumor has it that when Neil Armstrong first stepped onto the moon he was shocked to discover that McDonald's were already there...!
  16. I know it's a bit late now but you don't need tape to fix balloons to the ceiling. You just need to rub the inflated balloons on your shirt, jumper or hair and the static electricity you create will be enough for the balloons to temporarily stick to the ceiling.
  17. The adjusted measures won't work either. Vaccinate, vaccinate and vaccinate is the only way forward now. And even then the daily recorded figures will continue to rise. COVID-19 is here to stay. The daily infection numbers will never be zero again. Even after 70 % of the population has been vaccinated. The number of deaths is and has always been the only real important figure. The only way we can get back to some sort of normality is to get as many people immune as possible. And that's the real challenge because in Thailand corruption is and has always been the only true winner.
  18. They look like they were just smoking to me. Is that banned as well?
  19. The Polio epidemic was truly horrific. The black and white photos or all those kids in iron lungs is still shocking to this day. As someone who was born in the 1960s, I can actually remember having the Polio vaccine on a sugar cube.
  20. I bet there are a few members on TV that can remember when the Bubonic plague was rife!
  21. Pulp Fiction, the Honey Bunny scene. Reservoir Dogs, the restaurant scene.
  22. Ahh let the the paranoia commence! As stated in the article, this is about organized crime, not grumpy old expats bickering on internet forums.
  23. Keith Moon of The Who. Keith and John Bonham (mentioned above) are wildly regarded by their peers to be the two greatest rock drummers of all time. Not forgetting John Entwistle who is wildly regarded by his peers as one of the greatest bass guitarists of all time.
