  1. Back in 1960s Pubs etc in Scotand had to close by 10pm. Patrons then had 10 mins to drink up and go hame. This resulted in large orders just before closing and a rush to avoid wasting drink already paid for. This resulted in increased drunkenness and associated crime.

liberaisation in 1980s resulted in the same amount being drunk over a longer time. Drunkenness and crime reduced substantially almost over night.

I suggest that imposing further restrictions will result in a similar increase in crime

  2. My Sister-in-Law has turned up an old Ziess Ikon Contaflex SLR. By Google it appears to be a Super BC model making it about 50 years old.

Having managed to open it (I was afraid to use too much force) I have discovered an old film in it. I cannot rewind it, there is a rewind lock somewhere which I cannot find. Also, I suspect that somewhere there is a battery which will need to be renewed. So far, videos on Google have been no help mainly because they all concentrate on specific models. There appears to be a serial no. D 40108

Are there any old camera experts who can advise me ?

There's nothing to suggest the numbers are wrong. I graphed number of cases/100K people vs number of tests/100K population for all countries. Thailnd's value is right in amongst the other countries. It is not an outlier. Ther's no evidence to suggest increasing testing by 10X would result in 10X more positive cases. The nprecent of cases testing positive is very low for the number of tests done. Ofcourse, more are infected than what we are finding, but I suspect that is the case for mose countires.

I also agree. My local Ampeu has never reported any case. There have been several rumours of alleged cases, all of which have have very quickly subsided as it became obvious that they were false. In my Moo there has not even been a death for any reason for 3 months, in contrast with January when we had 4 funerals in one month.

  4. I have a water leak. I have narrowed it down to one pipe but the pipe is either inside a wall or under a floor. The local plumber's solution is to start one end and cut a gradually lengthening hole until he finds it. I recall, many years ago, a plumber in Scotland using a listening device to pinpoint the leak before cutting into a floor to repair it. He was accurate within one foot.

I have asked around all the plumbing supply shops in Chiang Mai and the replies have varied from incomprehension to total disbelief that such a device exists.  I cannot find any relevant thread on TV nor any device in Lazada. Can any member suggest where I can find anything effective ?

Last week, at a Home Visit in Chiang Mai, the Police asked that the witnessing friend also come to the Immigration Office to sign some document.  No fee requested.

At my initial application police brought a form with them for a neighbour to fill in and sign. One also suggested a Thb500 contribution for fuel for their pickup, but did not press the matter when I pointed out that the Immigration Office was only a longish walk away.

  6. I had something similar on my forehead many years ago. It started like a wart and grew quickly. It was removed in a hospital outpatient department in two mins using a cauterizing tool and local anesthetic.

    It has never returned.

  7. i cycled into PEA office Sanpatong this morning. The security guard would not let me park my bike inside the car park, I had to leave it outside in the street.

i walked into the compound and was met by two men, not in uniform, whom I could not understand, I showed them my bill and indicated that I wanted to pay.

One said "office peet" and the security took me by the arm and pushed me out the gate. All he would say was "Falang pai, gap baan".

I went to a nearby 7Eleven where I paid without trouble.

    Something has gone very wrong.

  8. I do not know where the poster stays, however IT City has a number of shops on the upper floor selling refurbished laptops with a 3 month guarantee. there are also at least 2 shops just west of Chiang Mai gate on the inside of the moat.
