I ordered a drug for Leukemia from India for only 875 Baht that was costing me 7000 Baht per month at a government hospital. The first delivery came straight to my home, but the 2nd delivery was held up at Custom's in Nong Khai. Customs wanted to confiscate the tablets, but my wife talked them out of it this time and paid a custom's tax plus 7% VAT. We were sent to the office of the FDA nearby to request a special license to import the drug in the future, but we were denied since there are other companies in Thailand which already import that drug. We were threatened again with confiscation but were allowed to keep that shipment; however, we were threatened with a 50,000 Baht fine and up to 5 years in prison if were ever tried to import medications again. Believe me, if you are importing meds from abroad, they have your name in their computer system, and they have the capability to keep track of your activity. It's just not worth the risk.

As someone who lived in the PI for 11 years and have now lived in Thailand for 15 years, I agree with the Filipina even though I have had great marriages with both Thai and Filipina ladies. I'm sure that my marriage experiences have been an exception to the rule. As a single man, the PI wins hands down!

I doubt very seriously that anyone, including a rescue car or ambulance, is going to rummage through your bag looking for instruction unless they plan on pocketing your cash if you are unconscious. As has been mentioned, they will take you to the hospital that pays them the largest commission for bringing you there. So far as using your credit card, I am told by Bangkok Hospital Udon that if you are unconscious when they check you in and are unable to sign a release to use that credit card, it will be rejected. For that reason, I requested an additional card in my wife's name on my Visa card account as she will certainly show up if needed unless we are both unconscious at the same time. I suspect that nothing you plan for will ever go as planned. Don't forget...we are living in a land where Murphy's Law rules the day....."If anything can go wrong....it will."

Thank you for your comment CharlieKo! Actually, it's not a matter of ability and the will of the people, but a call to obedience and the Will of God for our nation. Certainly, over the span of history there have been women leaders who have been held up as being top female leaders with outstanding accomplishments; but the question remains, would the country have been better off having the favor of God on them instead of having God take a back seat and turn HIS face away from them? When you study these so-called accomplishments, they are for the most part policy advancements that are totally against the Will of God for any nation. Having a male leader with a heart that leans to the Will of God and who is willing to take a firm stand for righteousness in any country....this is a country that will prosper and enjoy the favor of God for the sake of the elect of God. If God's people continue to be apathetic and not forcefully reject a woman for the Presidency, you will see the USA fall into total chaos. When we sat on our laurels and allowed a female to be second in command, that was only the beginning of sorrows for our nation.

This is a question that the entire world is afraid to ask in this day and age of women's rights and gender equality; but in my estimation, it is the "elephant in the room" so far as this upcoming election is concerned. I am a Christian, and in the Christian ethos a woman would not be allowed to hold that office. The Holy Scriptures make it perfectly clear that there is a line of authority in God's Kingdom, and a woman is not to have spiritual authority over a man. The Head of the woman is the man, and the Head of man is Jesus Christ. This goes for marriage and the household and even in the church where women are not to hold the position of Deacon or Pastor and having spiritual authority over the men. I simply cannot imagine that God would bless a woman and her nation when the population goes against the Laws of God and elects a woman as President. HE will only work within His own framework of authority. We all know intuitively that having a woman as Commander in Chief is just not natural, and I firmly believe that a nation will never be blessed when a woman is in charge. If you follow politics at all, you will see that our House and Senate are filled with women who are at odds with everything that is good and Godly for our country. They simply don't have the wisdom that is required to fulfill the calling to these higher offices. Even King Soloman, the richest and wisest man in his time, said that in all his dealings he never met a wise woman. The only thing that could be worse than having a woman as the leader of any nation would be to have a boy king, and historically that has been proven time and time again. I am deeply concerned for the direction that our country is headed, and I am totally convinced that if a woman is elected as President of the USA, then we will have done a grave injustice to ourselves. I am certain that I will receive tremendous pushback on this which only goes to show how we have been deceived by the rise of feminism over the past decades. There was a time in history when the Christian churches even preached on this topic from the pulpits of America, and it would have been unheard of to elect a woman as President. Sadly, in this age even the churches have been intimidated by the secular culture and are deathly afraid of being called out and cancelled for standing firm on this topic. Preachers are all but silent on the matter.....being afraid of losing their positions and having their church's non-profit status removed by the government and even being closed down for going against the culture and propagating so-called hate speech and intolerance. I too find it terribly annoying and insulting, but the thing that irritates me most is that I can't think of any logical explanation for why they even have such protocols. One might say that it's just a way to keep honest people honest, but the truth is that the only way out of the store is through a cashier who has just scanned every item in the basket less than 10 meters from the checker. That wouldn't surprise me one bit. I once had a girl back into my car in the parking lot at Lotus. I called for my insurance inspector, and rather than admit her guilt, she insisted on having a policeman come to decide who was guilty. The cop asked us both to come to the police department to settle the matter, and before departing Lotus the girl asked for the cop's cell phone number. MMick, in 2010 I moved to Thailand and brought my Rolex Presidential Day/Date with diamond numerals and diamond bezel (cost 2 million Baht at the Rolex store in Thailand at the time). I was always hesitant to wear it out, but I did wear it to one wedding party at a 5-star hotel. I'm sure that all the guests at my table either had no clue what it was, or they knew but thought it was a fake. After that I decided to sell it so I wouldn't be tempted to wear it again and risk injury or death to myself. I sold it to the owner of a gold shop. Now I have two watch boxes filled with 24 watches, the most expensive of which is 600 Baht, and each of them looks as good as my Rolex and actually keep better time. Swallow your pride and ego and do what is best to protect your life and the life of those who might be in your company when the robbers come after you.

The Itraconazole worked beautifully for me. No hassle with topical treatments on a daily basis. Just pop a capsule and give it a few weeks. After 10 years the fungal infection has never returned, and my toenails are like new. Just make sure there is no interaction with your other meds. Itraconazole is contraindicated with a lot of meds.

Gamma, if you like ironing so much, why can't you buy a nice iron that you would enjoy using. I have a 400 Baht TFal that I have been using for 14 years, and it does an excellent job. I have a nice ironing board, and I wouldn't dare leave the house without ironing my shirt and trousers and polishing my shoes. I would never be caught dead wearing flip-flops or sandals out of the house because I think all men look like sissies when they wear those God-awful things. If I wear casual shoes made from some sort of cloth, then I will use a cleaning solution and clean the exposed side of the rubbers soles so they still look like new. Men should have more respect for themselves and the way they present themselves in public. If you enjoy ironing, then what does it matter how much time it consumes in a given day? If you are in retirement, then you should have tons of time on your hands and probably nothing else more important to do with that idle time.

Don't do it!!!! A few months ago, I had prescription meds sent from India to Thailand by EMS Post, and they were delivered directly to my home by the local post office with no questions asked and no request for custom's tax. On the next shipment I was given a notice by the post office to pick up my meds at the custom's office in Nong Khai. It was there that my wife was informed that it is illegal to import prescription drugs into Thailand for personal use, but she talked them into allowing her to keep that shipment after the tax was paid, both custom's tax and VAT. We were advised to visit the Thai FDA office up the road to request a special permit to import meds for personal use. At that office they attempted to confiscate the meds that Customs had just allowed us to keep. We were told that so long as there is a local supplier of that medication, it is illegal to import drugs for personal use, and they would not give us a special permit to import. They were able to pull up the name of that medication on their computer and tell us full details on the local suppliers. They also warned us that my name is now in their computers for having imported meds from another country on two separate occasions, and If I attempted to import again, they would catch me and take me directly to jail in Nong Khai. I could be fined up to 50,000 Baht and imprisoned for as long as 5 years, and they were dead serious about it. Therefore, I suggest that you shelve the idea of importing any meds from China or any other country.

If she doesn't have Thai family or friends in her inner circle that will loan her 50K, then what does that tell you? They probably know they will never get it back, and she could very well already be in debt up to her neck with them with no way of every paying them back. Friend or no friend, my default answer is always "I'm sorry, but one of my core life principles is that I never loan money, and besides, all of my money is tied up in Fixed Deposits, and I pray that you will understand.

Has anyone using online banking with Bangkok Bank every ordered the 12 month statement off of their App? They will send it to you by email, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm wondering if Immigration will accept that in lieu of a statement from the bank with a bank signature on it. Also, how long does it take to get the statement by email.

Todd, for the 400K to be in the bank two months before submitting the application for the extension of stay, does Immigration go by calendar months or calendar days? For example: I show up at Immigration on April 17th and I count back 60 days to Feb 17th and deposit my money on that date. Or, I show up on April 17th and need to have deposited my 400K sometime in January.

This is the very reason that I gave up on trying to learn Thai after my first year in Thailand. Every time I tried to speak Thai to a waitress, I got that "deer in the headlights" stare and then had to revert to hand gestures mixed with English to get my point across. I once tried to order breakfast one morning, and I asked for a cup of hot water in Thai. I'm quite sure that I pronounced it correctly, but in the end, she brought me a dinner salad. Any person with half a brain would know that even if I didn't pronounce it correctly, I certainly wasn't asking for a dinner salad; and simply by process of elimination she could have figured out what I wanted if she had taken the time to "think". It's so frustrating for me that it just isn't worth the trouble to learn Thai. Others say that knowing the language will go a long way in learning to assimilate into the local culture, and I can make some meaningful relationships. Well....guess what? The last thing that I want is a relationship with any Thai outside that of my wife. I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for the whole lot, so I finally figured out that my life is so much more peaceful now that I try to insulate myself from the locals. Now I'm happier than ever!!!

The OP is overreacting and panicking for no good reason. Google is a reliable source, but only if the websites it sends you to are reliable. I always look for The Mayo Clinic or The Cleveland Clinic or The American Heart Association. You haven't told us your age, but I am assuming 60's or 70's. Your heart rate is perfectly normal for your age. I am 76 and have asked these questions numerous times to at least 6 cardiologists, even 2 from the Queen Sirikit Heart Center in Khon Kaen. My heart rate remained at 42-44 for a couple of years until they took me off my BP pills, now it is around 50-54 daily. So long as you are not dizzy when you stand up, then you should be okay. If you are functioning normally and don't notice the low heart rate, then don't worry about it. The Echocardiogram is not necessary unless you just feel like spending the money for peace of mind. But then again, you could be opening a can of worms unnecessarily. Once you give some of these doctors a look under the hood, they will take advantage of you and run you through a whole host of unnecessary diagnostics. They need the revenue to guarantee their job security, plus some of them actually get a commission from the various diagnostic stations that may be operating as independent contractors for the hospital. Loosen up and enjoy the ride!
