Russian Man Steals 15,000 Baht and Phone in Phuket Bar Heist
fittobethaied replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
So, what else did she expect to happen to her purse? I see this all the time. Employees at Dairy Queen or any kiosk playing on their phones and placing them right in front of customers, then turning their backs to do some work. The worst is the terrible fad habit of putting a phone in one's back pocket with half of it protruding out of the pocket. Don't they realize that it could fall out so easily, especially when riding on a motorbike. Or, the obvious result would be to lose it to a pickpocket. It would be an easy target for even an unskilled pickpocket. The joke here is that the victim refuses to take responsibility for her own lack of responsibility.- 91 replies

A New Beginning in Thailand
fittobethaied replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Same thing happened to me except I met my future wife on Thai Love Links website. Thank God I hit the jackpot, and it has been smooth sailing ever since 2010. For me the key was having a very discerning eye and looking for inconsistencies in her tales and behavior. If she is a flake, it will show up sooner rather than later if you have a keen eye. Don't be naive, and be on the lookout for the red flags. If they start to pile up, then run for the hills as fast as you can before she steals your heart and your money. I would say that the odds are not in your favor that you will find a good one on the first go around. -
Bangkok monk faces backlash for flaunting lavish lifestyle
fittobethaied replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
It's not a matter of privacy and personal choice. It's a matter of "where did he get the money". He's the temple secretary, so did he embezzle the funds, or were they personal gifts from well-wishers who made money from the monk's advice or superstitious predictions. I know someone who got a lucky number from a monk, and this guy told the monk he would give him 10% of the take if he won in the lottery. He won 16,000 Baht and felt honor bound to keep his commitment to the monk. The entire religious system is flawed and perverted! -

Filipina Woman Overstays in Thailand for Over 4 Years
fittobethaied replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
So now the police are looking for criminal in churches. Sure, that's where all the really high-profile criminals hang out. Ha! Their time should be more wisely spent fixing that broken tile floor at the entrance to that Immigration office before some poor innocent soul trips and breaks his neck! -
Do you believe in spinal manipulation?
fittobethaied replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Can't say that I've had much luck with it in the past, but I do firmly believe in female manipulation! Ha! Actually, several years ago I went to a famous Chiropractor in the US who was the Chiropractor for the city's professional hockey team. First, he took an X-ray of my neck and returned with what looked like an old X-ray that he probably shows to every patient in order to justify needing to see me for a series of future adjustments. What a quack! He had other tricks up his sleeve which obviously had perfected with practice over the years, and I caught him right away, but I didn't say anything. The biggest gimmick of all is to have the patient believe that the sound of a "crack" is an indication that he has fixed something that was out of whack, which isn't always the case. The more cracks he can make, the more he can justify charging an arm and a leg for his services. Walking out of the clinic feeling like a new man is akin to taking a placebo medication and thinking that it has helped you. Your mind can temporarily convince you that you're actually feeling much better, but then the pain returns within a short period of time. A proper alignment cannot be established in one visit, but it requires a series of follow ups. One is seldom fixed in one visit. The typical Chiropractor is primarily a marketing guru and lastly a fixer of your problems. The idea is to keep you coming back for more, so beware of the BS. -
Do Thai men get jealous we take all the hot women?
fittobethaied replied to MalcolmB's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Personally, I don't think the Thai men even give it a second thought. Most farangs choose bar girls or girls in their 30's and up who have been previously married and have kids or have kids from a Thai guy who ran away from them and no longer provide for them. It seems like we farangs only take the leftovers that your average Thai man wouldn't think of even dating. -
The study doesn't seem to differentiate between patients that has Covid and a vaccine jab and those who got Covid and had zero jabs. How could they possibly tell if the drop in IQ was due to Covid or the jab. Of course, they don't want to talk about that because they are still pushing the vaccines and will continue to do so with fearmongering about other pandemics to come.

Exact same thing happened to me Skeptic7. My guess is they have some sort of Algorithm that can tell them if the Baht and/or home currency will get stronger or weaker over the next few days, and if the forecast over the next few days is favorable for them, they will hold onto our money for a few more days and make extra interest or profit on the Forex Market. I wrote them for an explanation and received the following email in return. Perhaps this will answer some questions for other forum members: Thank you for reaching out. In general, ACH payments can take up to 4 working days to clear. Your payment can take longer to process because of the time it’s taking to reach us from your bank. There’s no way to speed this up but we’ll notify you once your payment is received. If you verified your bank account with microdeposits, then it may take longer to process your payment. To try to speed this up, you can try reconnecting your bank account using instant account verification with your banking username/password. This isn't guaranteed, but may help you with the speed of ACH Direct Debit transfers in the future. Some payment methods, for example ACH Direct Debit, work differently, when it comes to your Guaranteed rate. If you pay for a transfer or a balance top up with one of these methods, your rate is locked in when you successfully paid, or when you authorised the payment to Wise. Read more here: What's a guaranteed rate?. As you've paid with ACH Direct Debit, the rate would be locked in and fixed. Additionally, you can update your app to the latest version, as well as pay for future transfers with a card or wire, which are faster payment methods. You can also hold money on your Wise account ahead of time to instantly send out from there: How can I send money from a balance? and here: How do I add money to a balance? I hope that helps. Just let me know if you have any other questions — or you can check out our Help Centre. Best regards, Wise

Just make sure you understand that joint accounts in Thailand don't function the way they do in the West in that here there is no "rights of survivorship". In Thailand, if one dies, the surviving signatory can't just walk in the bank and take over the account. There will be other heirs that may be entitled to those funds in the event of a death, and you may be way down on the list. Higher-ups at Bangkok Bank have advised our Expat Group in public meetings to rush to the bank in the event of a death and withdraw the money before the bank finds out there has been a death. The account will be frozen if they know that one signatory has died. Yes, that really did happen!

No worries, there are other ladyboys who are "in your face" on TV, and I'm sure there will be more and more up-and-coming stars now that Thailand has gone full blown scorched earth with their new "Pride Month". Now that they have opened up the floodgates, you can expect to see LGBTQ+crusaders from all over the world coming to Thailand to push the narrative of acceptance. It's the newest religious cult and just one more arrow in the quiver of those who are hell bent on destroying the nuclear family.

PEA found out meter is spinning backward
fittobethaied replied to eddysacc's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
On my April bill, the usage was 861, then on my May bill the usage was EXACTLY the same. How can that possibly be? It's highly unlikely that the bills could be identical. That has never happened in 14 years. April had 24 days over 100 degrees, and May had only 12. The Tessaban installed new "smart" meters a few months ago, and my theory is that the home office fixed the meter to read the same as April since that is the hottest month of the year, and it gives them an opportunity to scam the homeowner and make a good profit for the month if they can duplicate the usage in a cooler month. Prove me wrong! -
Where do foreigners fit in the Thai hierarchy?
fittobethaied replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
NIce home with manicured lawn, nice car, always dress hiso, well-groomed, good hygiene, always smiling, helping people in the village (word gets around), then once all those boxes are checked, they dislike you because they are jealous. Can't win for losing around this place! -
Where do foreigners fit in the Thai hierarchy?
fittobethaied replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have been living in Thailand for 14 years, and I gave up trying to figure all this out several years ago. Frankly, I don't care what they think of me or where and how I "fit in". I have no Thai friends outside my wife's immediate family, and that's the way I like it. I wouldn't give you a wooden nickel for the whole lot. I had a situation this morning that may shine some light on what the Thais think of us foreigners. I went to the government hospital this morning for an exotic blood test that has to be sent to a lab in Bangkok. The Thai price for the test is 5800 Baht, but since I am a "dirty scamming" farang, I had the privilege of having to pay double, or 11,600 Baht. I quizzed 3 separate employees to explain to me what the double pricing, and they all had been coached to parrot the same excuses: 1. The hospital lost 5 million Baht last year on farangs who skipped their payment to the hospital. . 2. Their charge is much less than the private hospitals. 3. Their charge is much less than I would pay in my home country. -
I brought all of my USD's here and put them in a USD Foreign Currency Fixed Deposit account for one year at 6/10ths of 1% interest at Bangkok Bank. With Thai Baht accounts the Thai equivalent of the FDIC in the US will guarantee and insure deposits up to 1 million Baht, but Foreign Currency deposit account have NO guarantees. It's one of the biggest rip-offs of all times, but I'm banking on the Thai Baht weakening drastically at some point in time, then I will exchange my USD's for Thai Baht and make my profits. If the Baht goes the other way, I'm screwed. I could send my money back to the US and make 5.5% interest at my credit union, but at my age I could kick the bucket at any time, and my wife would have one heck of a time getting that money back to Thailand. It would be a major chore for her, and she would wind up paying some "shark" to advise/help her and get scammed into paying him a large percentage for his trouble. It's just not worth the hassle.

Dentistry is one of the biggest rip-offs in the country. The prices they charge are way beyond the means of most people in the society, and totally out of whack compared to the average salary of most workers. How in heaven's name can they justify asking 50,000 Baht and more for a simple implant or 8-10,000 for a crown. While living in Manila a few years back, I had a Filipino friend who manufactured crowns for American dentists and sold them for $10 and shipped to the US. I recently got a quote on some dental work and made the comment that it was way too expensive. The standard response is " but I spent a lot of money and time to learn how to do this business, plus it's cheaper than the dentists in the US. I told her I had no desire to pay for her education....just charge me a fair price for the work you do for me. I got the usual smirk combined with a fake smile and walked out. Absolutely outrageous! No wonder there are so many people walking around with only half their teeth in their skull.

Can Durian kill you when you drink alcohol?
fittobethaied replied to george's topic in Thailand News
During my first trip to Thailand and to the "boonies" in 1991, my former Thai wife neglected to warn me about mixing scotch with durian. The next morning and through the following day, I was sicker than I have ever been in my life. Never again! -
For the Bisoprolol I pay 375 Baht for 100/5mg tablets at the Military Hospital in Udon Thani. Drugs are very inexpensive there. Pay 50 Baht to see a doctor for the prescription in the hospital, then off to their pharmacy for the best prices in Udon.

Aussie Woman Reveals Harrowing Tales from Infamous Thai Prison
fittobethaied replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Man, some of you guys are ruthless. You should be humbling yourselves and proclaiming "but for the grace of God, there goes I". Were you not young once and did some pretty foolish things? The only difference between you and Holly is that she got caught and you didn't. The real crime here is how the Thais treat prisoners. If there is one thing I have learned from living here for 14 years is that there is very little compassion, empathy and forgiveness extended to fellow human beings in this country. Feeding the fish and soi dogs for the sake of "making merit" takes priority over caring for their fellow man. Whatever happened to the concept of "an eye for an eye". The excessive punishment she received comes nowhere near to fitting the crime. -
Bangkok Chaos: Pickup Plummets From 4/FL Hospital Car Park
fittobethaied replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I contend that a great many automobile accidents happen in Thailand due to the driver wearing flip-flops. The first time I tried it, I knew there was no way that I could properly control the pedals. One is too busy trying to keep the flip-flop on the foot since there is no heel support, and I can see how the brain would have trouble with that maneuver and putting the desired pressure on the brake or accelerator at the same time. It's very confusing and very dangerous. When my wife drives the car, I will not allow her to drive with such shoes. It has to be a well-fitted shoe with full support all the way around. I've seen people drive in flip-flops and take off the right shoe and drive barefooted while the unused flip-flop is left somewhere in the floorboard, and that could easily get lodged under the pedals and cause an accident. The Thais seem to be totally oblivious to this problem with the flip-flops. -
Just yesterday I prepared to post a review on the GRAB App after I received a horrible pizza from a local restaurant. Just before sending it off, at the bottom of the page was a disclaimer saying that my name and details would be provided along with the review. Who in the world is dumb enough to provide a review in Thailand under those terms and conditions. Surely, this sort of thing discourages any reviews at all, so the function serves no purpose whatsoever. Reviews such as these should be anonymous.

Is there a 2nd hand market for original watches within Thailand ??
fittobethaied replied to Chivas's topic in General Topics
In 2016 I sold my solid 18K gold Rolex President Day Date with diamond bezel and diamonds at each numeral. A comparable watch in the official Rolex shop cost 2.2 million Baht, but I was only able to get 180,000 Baht for mine. It was really difficult to find a buyer, so I wound up selling it to the owner of a gold shop. He made out like a champ. I had just had a life-threatening heart event and was afraid that I wouldn't live much longer, and I didn't want my wife to be stuck with the watch and get ripped off trying to unload it. Turns out I was the one that got ripped off in a moment of desperation.
