  1. What I cant understand is why people dont read the post in the first place. It has always been that where you stay has to register your presence at immigration. If its a hotel or guest house they should do it automatically and if its a private house or condo the owner should tell immigration. You fill ithe immigration card in on arrival to them where you are staying and if you move they need to be notified.

For the average visitor this is done automatically and for expats via the 90 day reporting system.

I cant see that anything has changed and its definatley nothing to get worked up about.

  2. Has anything changed in the last month. I was thinking of going to Chaing Mai by plane from Don Mueang . As I live in Pattaya I thought easy, bus to Swampy and shuttle bus to DMK.

Then I read that its ok from from BKK to DMK but after your return flight its not possible to use the shuttle bus. It it still thre same.

Why not take the bus to Mo Chit and then the A1 to DMK?

Going to DMK is the easy bit. Coming back is the problem.

  3. I'm sure that if you're worried about if the insurance will cover you in an accident, you're better off not considering using motocy taxis anyway, regardless of the colour of the plate or category of the driver's licence.

I didnt say I was worried (I have enough accident and medical cover insuarance to cover almost any possibility). I just wanted to bring this to the attention of others and to ask for more inforamation

if any body has any. I dont use motorbike taxis very often as I have my own but I do if I go out drinking.

  4. I read somewhere the other day that motorbike taxi drivers had to wear the appropriate vest (from their rank)

have the correct driving licence, own the motorbike and have Yellow plates.

If any of these conditions are not met they are illegal and are not covered by insurance if they have an accident.

Which means their passenger has no cover either.

Does anybody have more infomation on this.

  5. I have a 42in TCL flat screen TV. 5years old.  After a power surge the other day its starting up time has gone from a few seconds  to

over a minute. The picture is as good as its always been.

Does the longer start up time mean that the life of the TV is coming to an end.

  6. a birth certificate should not be needed if your renewing an existing passport, someone has made a mistake me thinks

you have no need to "prove" your entitlement to a british passport on renewal, which is all the birth certificate does

for someones first passport yes but renewals, no your already in the system

I must admit that on the  letter I sent  I just said passport application appointment.

Perhaps I should have said Passport Renewal appointment.

  7. I am helping a friend in renewing his passport. He has an appointment at the end of the month so there is no hurry.

Yesterday he recieved the appointment letter and in it it said he needed to bring his birth certificate and a copy which he

doesnt have. We have all the other paperwork and copies already.

Is this a new rule because when I last renewed mine (2008) I didnt have my birth certificate.

I thought a passport was all the identification one needed.

Apart from your parents names it has all the other information (Place and date of birth and nationality).

In the UK Gov Guidelines website it doesnt mention a birth certificate, but in the letter  from Bangkok HMPO it does.

Also the helpful advice from Key Visa (Pattaya) doesnt include birth certificates.

Has anybody who has renewed their passport lately needed their birth certificate.

  8. I live on the top floor in a condo measuring approx 33Sq M. There is no insulation. I am thinking or replacing my present Air Con.

How many BTU's should I be looking at.

  9. It would be easier to make a suggestion if we had some idea about the monitor ie: brand, size, age etc. If it's just a small item that is several years old I'd be inclined to buy a new one. If it's a high end model or a fairly recent purchase then yes, I'd look into getting it repaired. You can get a new 21" LED monitor nowadays starting at around 4000-5000 baht (Samsung, LG, Acer).

It's 5 years old an Lg Flatron W1952

  10. My monitor has stopped working i.e it doesnt come on. I've checked the socket and the power lead and they are both fine.

My question is do I throw it away and buy a new one or can monitors be serviced and repaired? If it is possible to service/repair

    is it worth it?

  11. I know this doesnt come under BOGOF or is related to drink but the other day in a large supermarket on Sukukvit I bought a tube of Snax crisps for 39 baht next to it was a double pack offering 2 Snax crisps for 79 Baht.

This same supermarket has been written about in the UK press for offering 'specials' that were more expensive than buying the articles separatetly.

. It seems that the leaf doesnt fall far from the tree.

  12. What does the law say about closing hours?

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I think the law states that entertainment bars etc, have to close at 2pm and this hasn't changed for years.

What might have changed is the enforcement due to the BiB not getting paid.

  13. I was having a drink in this well known bar the other day when I noticed an advert for "London Pride". As someone who has drunk lots of "London Pride " over the years in tthe uk I ordered one.

Imagine my surprize when I asked for another to be told that you only get one for the price. So its not "bogof" its only that if you order specific drinks.

    Buyer beware.
