  2. Just been diagnosed with lung cancer that has moved out into the system and due to start radiation here in Aus next week for 12 days. After that will be chemo of various types including immune type every 21 days. They say survival approx. 5% @5 year mark........fit as a bull otherwise........no symptoms of the cancer just a nagging cough with runny nose that took a month to shift that I picked up last trip. Obviously no cure for the former but doctor seemed to think no problem putting any treatment on hold for 4 or 5 weeks for our usual trip over home to Thailand each February. Raises a question of what happens if I get some infection or whatever while on our yearly trip as apparently no bilateral health treatment arrangement that I know of between Australia and Thailand like there is for emergency health treatment in some other countries. Anyone have any experience with Australia based travel insurance companies that provide some degree of cover should the need arise? Edit: I see reference to Cigna at the head of this section however I tend to steer away from unknown companies from who knows where...............🤔

  4. Torroid looks suspiciously like the windings were damaged from rubbing against some part of the frame or similar. Maybe other wiring ??
  5. As per the diagram, it's not exactly "wasted". The Kva is the amount the supply authority are generating. If there were no capacitive (leading) or inductive (lagging) with the current, reactance in the load, Kva would equal Kw.(as is mostly in DC) Since it is not, then the load dictates the difference. If the load is mostly inductive, say a workshop full of choke style welding machines, then the supply authority Kva is much greater than the Kw. As most of the meters are Kw meters it means the supply authority must generate a wack more power overall to get this Kw level, but only get paid for the latter. Such is why, large inductive installations must install capacitor banks to at least partially bring this lagging power factor somewhat closer to unity. It is why the choke style fluroscent lights had capacitors installed. Not so much for one installation but overall, it adds up. Monduran pump station in Aus with it's 4 x 3.3kv 400hp motors had it's own on site capacitor banks to bring the pf up to somewhere near 0.9.

  11. Irrevalant in which country you reside, I'd be willing to bet the system is not wired as per regs let alone have ever had an impedance test done to determine correct circuit breakers. Or for that matter the elcb tested for correct trip time or whether it trips at all at a 30mA level on the zero and the 180 degree mark. Ground mass resistance is no match for low impedance of a copper earth return cable. Last time i looked, majority of Thailand is MEN. In fact have never come across any others in over 10 years.   14. Probably work ok BUT...... in many countries the AC type safety switches have been banned from new installs since 2023.   15. Definitely NOT. The ONLY alternative AND it must be the associated circuit neutral. Again...definitely NOT. There is basically nothing "wrong" with your install as you seem to imply, simply "loop at the light" wiring arrangement which is normal. There is also loop at the switch system but many cables must pass down the wall and be terminated in the switch box which is why the former is sometimes preferred especially when solid block wall and conduit is in use. Many "smart" switches do NOT require a neutral and it might be your best shot to look for those instead. Instructions to provide a neutral at certain switches have gone unheeded, obviously you were not there at the time to make sure it was done, so bad move on your part. First rule of any work being done in LOS, be there, make sure yourself.

  17. If the safety cut is wired correctly and it is in working order, you should NEVER feel any leakage current. Show details of your installation, as much as possible. Any "local grounding rod" is essentially a waste of time in any MEN system.
  18. A safety cut used as a mains isolator in a weatherproof enclosure on a pole, right where the mains enter the property would also be a good move. Cables on the ground never a good idea.

  20. It's not the tube that is live and neutral ended, it is the fitting into which it is being installed. Same outcome though but I fail to see how throwing the so-called isolator bung away during installation would help if one were to remove and replace the same tube for any reason. Same procedure should apply as with ALL mains work, test for live. (Crossy picked up on that above.)
  21. There was talk in the media a few months back where airlines were considering removing the "recliner " seats or at least disabling that feature. Sooner the better I say.
  22. digital one from China by any chance?? PEA meter would be checked and stamped for accuracy. Your would have been lucky to be subjected to quality control of the outer case at best. Use an old WF or Email disc meter for checking.....we used to buy them new for around AUD$150.00.
  23. Possibly....however the meter I referred to was the old WF inductive disc meter so visible reading a necessity.
  24. I'd say the former....sounds like one of the windings are open circuit if all the previous has been checked and eliminated. They look fine but a multimeter test would confirm continuity. Split the windings at the common and test with a megger to make sure no shorts between the two there to be absolutely certain. Then test with growler for interwinding short within each field winding. As many said before, bin it.
