  1. Why not? He's already bought the government, what's next, Tesco's?
  2. Well he's right about the 'wokeness aspect but warrior ethos ? Somewhat of a romantic statement for what are basically hired guns.
  3. An apt post considering the AN headline regarding expat taxation.
  4. Very laudable attitude I'm sure but ignoring the tax office isn't the same as not paying a parking ticket. You may get away with it for several years but a knock on the door entails paying back taxes and a large fine as well as criminal proceedings. I don't know how it is here but in Europe tax evasion is a criminal offence, if that is also the case here then your visa extension could also be revoked, is it worth the risk? I have several pensions but it's all quite straight forward, I have calculated my deductions and worked out my own tax bill....just over 20k. In most cases you won't need a tax consultant and I have heard that the tax office staff are very helpful for a little tea money. I don't like the idea of paying tax, who does, but I will wait until the last day and then present myself at the tax office with my calculations, I'm too much of a coward to break a lance on the doors of the tax office.
  5. Like syphilis?
  6. I don't care, I'll be dead by then.
  7. Rescued or not this isn't going to help getting more tourists from China, they'll be working overtime in the TAT to clean up this mess.
  8. 555555555 the scammer complains to the police about being scammed by the police and gets scammed again, I love it.
  9. "America had often been discovered before Columbus, but it had always been hushed up."
  10. That's coming anyway, give it another 20 years and there may still be a few strange people around who have a job.
  11. Nothing, but it has to do with the general confusion about DTA's....burn me,
  12. Because the statement from the German tax office appears to give permission to Thailand to tax me.
  13. That's a good start, the tax office doesn't even know what a DTA is. I don't know what value these DTA's have anyway, there seems to be confusion everywhere. My letter of pension confirmation from the German consulate contained a clause that due to a DTA with Germany my pension wasn't to be taxed by Thailand, I don't pay tax on my pension in Germany. My German tax office said I'm not taxed in Germany as they assume I am paying tax in Thailand.
  14. I wonder where all that money came from, Thaksin didn't do too badly for a policeman did he.
  15. What can I say, it is as it is, the daily hazards of life. I live in the Isaan countryside and like to go for a walk on the concrete path around the temple lake in the early morning when it's still dark. I once tripped over a water buffalo who was sleeping on the path.
  16. 'Fake it till you make it' Reeves.
  17. I can only agree with you, quite frankly it's frightening. I enjoy watching political and economic podcasts about Europe, America and Asia on YouTube. One can dismiss a lot of information on YouTube as exaggerated rubbish, and so it was when I started to read and listen to lectures about the fall of Western civilization, now I'm not so sure it's rubbish, in fact I'm becoming convinced that it's true, There isn't just an economic decline but a moral one as well combined with weak and inept leaders in every major country especially noticeable in the new American administration. The world's economies are no longer being managed by elected politicians but by large corporations, banks, land owners and shareholders. Quick money is the basis for decisions now, not logical paths forward for sustainable industry and commerce, globalization has destroyed local industries and AI will no doubt deliver the 'coup de grace.' The creeping poverty for pensioners, homelessness and rising unemployment coupled with the declining power of FIAT currencies could usher in Victorian like living conditions made worse by by the power of states to gather data on its citizens.
  18. That's where the 'cunning plan' comes to the fore.
  19. It's the same with any calamity, people like to huddle together around the fire saying. "isn't this awful" and, "when is it going to stop" as the snow blizzard hurles itself against the house and the residents glance fearfully at the ceiling and hope the roof remains intact, it's a comfort thing.
  20. Why prehistoric, the Catholic church is alive and well.
  21. All major economies are heading for recession, including the USA, this what is so alarming this time around. In earlier recessions the world wasn't so in tandem, there were always some countries that were still doing well and could stabilize those economies that weren't. I've watched economic commentators on YouTube talking about the US, China, Russia, Australia, Germany, the UK etc. it's the same story, they are all headed for the plug hole and now the smaller countries in Asia are joining the mix.
