  3. You sure you don't need one from a psych? biggrin.png

How the old anger management classes going, you keeping up ? giggle.gif

They're going well, doctor told me that I only have to attend another 15 years, and also that you don't need a medical attest for driver license renewal.

Glad to hear that, keep them up.

Think I do need a medical cert, ( i could be wrong, hope so ) slight mistake with my first post.

im going from a one year to a 5 year, all the years I have been here never had a 5 year one, visa issues so, done numerous one year ones and used international drivers permit most years, was in and out every few weeks so not a problem.

but retired now so doing the 5 year soon. wai2.gif

  4. Any clinic will do it. Should be no more than 100B, maybe less. If they want more just go to another clinic.

    True

but last time 200 each from clinic in jontien, !!!!!!!

    That's why I asked.

But thank you for your reply.

  5. Is PUI illegal in Thailand?

No. She and her husband were here just a few months ago. Did some promotional work on the DUI problem.

(Parking under the influence - no such thing as far as I'm aware.)

In the UK there is an offence of Drunk In Charge, that is you are not driving but for instance be sleeping it off in the vehicle, technically you only need car keys in your possession.

It is also an offence to be drunk in charge off:

    • a bicycle
    • a horse
    • a boat
    • a plane
    • a train
    • a heard of cattle
    • a child under 7 years old
    • oneself (being drunk in public place is an offence)
    • (and so on)

On the public highway or public place. (“Public place” includes any highway and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise).

Yet more nonsense referencing to uk .

Your in Thailand man, who gives a dam about what goes on in the uk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1zgarz5.gif

  6. This focus on drink driving is not the real issue for Thailand's road safety

    Dangerous driving is the issue,

unless all Thai drivers / Riders are pissed out there faces 24/7

    What you think ?

Could it be that dangerous driving is a result of being drunk behind the wheel?

I will let you guys get you panties in a twist for this thread.

After 120,000 km Driving / Riding around Thailand most around Pattaya, I know what the real problem is and Its not drink driving.

Have a nice day, bye wai2.gif

I think with a name like yours you should not comment and that your likely one of those guys that does drink and drive. Shows how you deflect the topic.

My apologies if I jumped the gun.

    that's just silly

    oh yes, its you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Most Thais shop at the local markets. Thais and farangs with money shop at Big C/Tesco/Foodland. Mostly I think the pricing policy at Big C et al is: Stick it to the farang.

My favourite juice is cranberry, by Langers, an import. In Foodland it's 153 baht/Villa 160 baht, in Phnom Penh it's 60 baht. Identical brand and size, 32 oz/1L. Thai brands Tipco and Malee are cheaper on a regular price basis (by about 10 baht or more) in PP than in Thailand. Leo beer is 30 or so baht in Thailand, in Phnom Penh it's 15 baht (at expensive Bayon Market), yes, even after transport costs are thrown in.

Over here on the Darkside, a very flavourful and tasty Soi Muslim BBQ'd half chicken is 75 baht. At Foodland, 140 baht. Weights about the same, maybe slightly heavier at Foodland.

Stick it to the farang. That's all you need to know about pricing if you shop at the big name supermarkets. So I let them . . . but not for long.

You ever thought that the prices you mention might be due to the very high import taxes on foreign items and heavy duty on alcohol. No sorry you probably didn't as you are quite happy that as a Farang every Thai is out to rip you off.

At open markets prices are usually not marked and they don't use proper scales ... so that, and the lack of communication keeps me away. I would also have to factor in a Farang "idiot" tax. I much prefer the idea of buying products with exact gram measurements that aren't rounded off to the nearest 10 baht or so... and worth a few baht extra to shop in air conditioned comfort without being hassled.

Mangosteens are a good example of the advantages of supermarket shopping. I can have a good feel of each one in the supermarket to make sure I'm not buying "mangostones". They wouldn't appreciate that in an open market and I'm not going to let someone pass over a bag of stones as they would want to do in the market.

    That is so true.

Stopped using Rumpole market Jomtien a year ago ( because Farang Tax ) at some stalls there.

I like to shop at the local markets if i can , but keep an eye on them.

  9. The illegal Russian tour guides seem to have vanished along with the Russian tourists, so presumably it isn't them that the Thai guides are complaining about.

I suppose it must be illegal Chinese guides as the Chinese seem to make up 90% of all short-stay tourists here these days.

    Good point on the chinese.

Could just be a case of the locals getting jealous and wanting a bigger slice of the pie

But still should not take jobs away from the Thai people. ( if they can do the job ) !!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Some fundamentally flawed arguments here...

IF someone wishes not to wear a helmet that may be their choice and one I could agree with if when they come off their bike they are the only ones impacted.

However, these people have loved ones who may have to look after them in their recovery or brain damaged state.

Additionally these people who may otherwise have faced minimal injuries when involved in an accident will now become the physiological burden of whoever else was involved in the same accident (especially if the 'other party' was not at fault').

Riding without a helmet shows a level of stupidity or self-centredness.

Whether other drivers should be penalised when driving carelessly / recklessly is a moot point, because we all agree they should. The fact remains that people will continue to face unnecessary injury and death as a simple result of not wearing a helmet.

This is much the same as not wearing a seatbelt - If you prefer not to, you must be self-centered, selfish and more than a little dim witted.

A little bit off topic, but

Is that your thoughts on people from the USA. gigglem.gif
