I can say unequivocally that most western men in Pattaya that are married to Thai women are married to ex-bar girls or ex-freelancers. Of course, your wife is different; I'm sure it really was her first day at the bar or she was just at the club on a holiday from Bangkok and she never go with man. 

I have never seen a group of harder looking women than the older Thai women married to western men.

A very honest look at the situation for guys in Thailand, but one that will not make any friends with the guys here who are married or dating women who are different than the normal Thai woman? .

Only daft people shop for groceries in the foreigner stores, at the market, 4 bell peppers 20bht, 1kg potatoes 20bht, 1kg tomatoes 10bht. 

Western restaurants run by western people, of course they're expensive because they're ripping you off. White folk want higher profits.

Never buy anything in Thailand from a business run by a foreigner unless you like being overcharged.

Cooking western food at home in Thailand, way cheaper than cooking any food at home in the UK.

I can understand drinking in a western-style pub to talk to people from your own country, even though I don't do it as I left home to not talk to people from back home. Maybe you want to watch your favourite sport on a big screen TV and have a few beers, like I do. But shopping in somewhere like central festival or ordering a crappy hamburger formed by someone in the kitchen without clean hands, and paying $12 for the privledge is just stupid. 

Source fruits and vegetables from the local markets. Source chicken and meat from Makro. Big C on Pattaya klang has excellent bread at good prices. Save $500 a month by being frugal. Drink most of your beer from the balcony of your condo with some sexy filly who isn't going to push you over the edge, literally or figuratively.

When that is said, Im also looking for another location where we (me and my thai gf) can settle in future, if situation will change in Thailand. If me and my gf split, Im sure I will end up in Brazil. 

 

 

Both my current wife and my ex-wife are Asian farangs, smarter than I am, and have master's degrees. If you can find that in Thailand, that is a pink unicorn; it simply will not happen. I came here to be free. It has nothing to do with Thai women, who are so overrated as partners, it is incredible.  

The Chinese tourists and the western expats are moving in two different universes here in Thailand. The only time the two will come into contact is when they block the footpath on beach road, causing you to push through them or when they bump into on the street, screaming hideously as they swarm in savage locust droves wherever they go.

Last week, my wife and I were walking down a street in Jomtien near our condo. A moto taxi driver took out a few bones with meat on them and tossed one to a dog who was about 5 meters in front of us. I wanted to throw the guy into traffic. We literally had to walk out into traffic to get around a mangy soi dog who was protective of his bone.

I don't know whether I dislike moto taxi drivers or soi dogs more. Soi dogs are quieter and less dangerous. Probably have fewer diseases,too.

Thai logic continued to escape me. It would be wrong to euthanize the dogs in a humane way; but starving them in forced disease-ridden conditions is the proper thing to do?

Please, Thailand, educate your people to be smarter than a western second grader.

No, I take that back. If you get a classroom of second graders from an advanced country, and present them with nearly any problems facing Thailand, and I guarantee you they come up with better solutions. 

Now if that secind grade class could just find a way to usurp the democratically elected government of Thailand....oh wait....
