  1. The "new" online system works well in my experience, and I've not heard many technical complaints. Takes less than 60 seconds. https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login
  2. You need to freak out on the staff occasionally for no reason whatsoever. All the better if you wear the tin-foil hat and jabber in a made-up language. It's almost guaranteed that your lobby demons will avoid your gaze forever
  3. You got that right. After years of parking 800k in a Thai bank with minimal interest, I switched to an agent who charges 12,500b/year for the service. That's only 1.6% on the same 800k. There are plenty of expats who will argue that someday the agent method won't work. So far a lot of us find an agent the better way to go.
  4. You must be a lot of fun at parties
  5. So your point is that she's not a Drama Queen?
  6. Did you find any royalty from Southeast Asian countries on the List? I heard Jeff spent a lot of time in Germany
  7. "Electrocution" means death from electrical shock. She's alive and just another Drama Queen creating clickbait
  8. Tourists bring the majority of their money into Thailand via ATM withdrawals from their home countries. ATM withdrawals will always be untraceable in Thailand. I don't expect this tax to be much of a problem for most expats unless they wish to buy hard assets. We renters have little to worry about
  9. Quite a while ago that location made their own wraps from fresh dough for each order. They were much better than the premade wraps. Does anyone know of a place that makes their own fresh tortilla wrappers?
  10. I haven't seen a proper dream pipe in Thailand since the 80's. Please PM me if you know something I don't
  11. Pattaya’s tourism tide: Aims to lure 27 million visitors The weed shop entrepreneurs seem to be the only people who believe the headlines
  12. I agree, I too am sending a clear message to Immigration. I liter often, urinate in public, and rip off the cart vendors as often as possible
  13. My father told the same cringe-worthy jokes for 25 years and expected an honorary rise out of us every time. So goes the double-pricing conversation
  14. This is the second story about the Thai government pouring big money into new healthcare initiatives. Last week there was a story about free HiSo hospitals care for village folks. There must be some fat kickbacks being paid by the bedpan mafia
  15. Two creative gentlemen supporting Thialand's move to a digital economy. I expected a puff piece praising the Ministry of Education for its digital entrepreneurship programs
  16. Well, I'm not sure what 20 years has to do with the 800k yearly deposit for a visa, but your math is incorrect. The Thai baht has actually been a terrible investment over the last 20 years. The S&P index is up about 450% in the last 20 years. A dollar invested in the Thai Baht is only up about 10% over the same 20 years. There are good reasons that some folks like to hold the 800k in the bank - because it's a good forex investment isn't one of them.
  17. Well, I could be hit by falling space debris too, but I choose not to worry about it. Have you ever heard of anyone who faced jail, deportation, fines, or blacklisting when their only misdeed was using an agent in this way? No, I haven't either
  18. Exhale. Job done
  19. Simple math. Agents charge about 12,500/year, which is 1.6% of 800,000. Thai banks pay almost no interest, and most of us can make a bunch more than 1.6% on our investments in our home country. Using an agent in the province where you live has been the best practice for as long as I can remember to avoid the problem the OP encountered. Nothing new here.
  20. Where's the fine print? It's hard to believe the government will pay for country folk to use Bumrungrad or other HiSo hospitals ;-)
  21. I recently got a notice from my Private Mail Box provider that as of Jan 1 2024 the USPS is requiring notarized proof of identity and proof of a physical address in the USA. The proof of address requires a lease or utility bill etc. I could not get it accomplished from here without a lot of hassle, so I shifted my mailing address to a friend's home. "Homeless" can register to vote in any chosen zip code. I find it strange it's now more difficult for state residents without a home to receive mail. Following this thread see what you learn.
  22. I've been using one of these vacuum gizmo's - about 250 baht at Lazada. I use a wide-mouth mason jar (no plastic bags) and keep it vacuum-sealed in the refrigerator. This is the best method according to my Rabai/weed supplier. He advises against freezing which I've done for decades. I'd still lean towards freezing for very long term storage as I noticed some loss in quality after about 5 months in the refrigerator. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/ready-to-ship-electric-mason-jar-vacuum-sealer-for-wide-regular-mouth-jar-accessory-hose-compatible-with-foodsaver-vacuum-sealer-machine-i4920394363-s20718947250.html?
  23. Bob Smith is the Big Velveta
  24. This is a fantastic idea. The Thai government will save money they would otherwise spend on Thai policemen. They should soon invite the Chinese Army to protect Thai borders, and maybe have a few strategically placed Chinese political officers to help stabilize Thai politics. I think the future has finally arrived
  25. Not even close. Think India, or just about anywhere in the Middle East
