  1. Not aware of any set amount for bank transfers, but there are limits that some refer to above, for bringing cash in or taking out of the country. For that it is 20,000 USD or equivalent for foreign currencies, and 500,000 THB. Same limits are imposed both directions. That's from the customs website I was digging through for something else last week. EDIT: Forgot to mention - that are limits of bringing currency without declaration. If amount is higher, it needs to be declared.
  2. Actually she killed 5, including her own boyfriend. She's either facing life sentence OR 15-20 year imprisonment. I certainly hope it's not going to be the latter. Released, she would certainly continue her killing spree, as she would have if she had not been caught.
  3. Just searched for where my idea that this scheme ended came from, and here it is: The free-to-ride bus project was launched by the People's Power Party-led government in 2008 to help low-income people for six months. It has since been extended every six months by subsequent governments [SNIP] Free rides on selected public buses and trains will be extended for another three months, until the end of January, Deputy Transport Minister Ormsin Chivapruck said on Tuesday. This was published on 15 October, 2015. So basically, the scheme ended at the end of January, 2016.
  4. They are still running? I remember that it was even before COVID when BMA ended that scheme and I haven't seen any such bus since, at least in the area where I used to live. If they are still running, that would be good for the poor people in need to move around. And from photo of the pink taxi next to it, seems some may still be running as that's newer Corolla model than when I thought scheme ended. Ignore my post above, then.
  5. Years ago I stepped into a (non-aircon) bus as I was in a hurry and when trying to pay, I was told that bus was free. It was a red bus with green line (government owned). That was running for several years, apparently, but that was my only time on one. I've seen them later though, and they have a Thai word for FREE on the plate next to driver. Now, from what I remember, that scheme was cancelled a long time back. There are some venues that offer free buses and boats still, and those that I know of are Asiatique has a boat from Saphan Thaksin, there are hotel boats like Hilton has free boat from Saphan Thaksin and from River City, many other hotels by the river have free boats to Saphan Thaksin, and so does (did?) ICON Siam. There is a free shuttle bus between Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports, but I believe you need to show onwards flight ticket to board. There are free shuttle buses from Huamark to Bang Sue train terminals. There's a shuttle between Ploenchit BTS station and All Seasons Place. And between Udomsuk BTS and IKEA/Mega Bangna. Those are at least what I've seen. But I doubt that's what the OP meant. I believe he was inquiring about the free bus scheme from 10 years ago or so, where several lines were paid for by the BMA to cover the whole city by free bus transport. That ended many years back.
  6. Yesterday people started complaining a lot about electricity bills in our condo. Today went down and saw 100+ sitting in the lobby... as it's air conditioned... Inflation does strange things.
  7. You would purchase the cashier's cheques from the bank where you have a bank account. You tell them how much to put on each cheque. When purchasing a condo that is not yet fully paid off, you would need to make 1 cheque to the bank for the amount owed (bank will provide details to seller what needs to be on that cheque), and the rest to seller (and possibly separately for any agents). At the land office, a bank representative will be present and will accept payment in front of the officer, and unblock the chanote. Then the transfer fees will be paid (preferred in cash as the cashier's cheque has clearing fee), and seller is paid with another cashier's cheque. Actually pay any deposit with cheque as well and make a photocopy, then make seller sign they have received it. Just in case. So, there's no issue, but you'll need to separate cheques between bank share, seller share, and any agents. And add the taxes in cash. Process is likely to take an hour or so if all documents needed are provided.
  8. Had 3M film installed by the company "goodfilm" a good month ago. They have between 10 and 80%. I've chosen 60% light blocking, which lowers IR light that causes heat significantly. Now the windows are still hot, but 10cm from them it's cool. Before heat came a meter+ into the room. Basically, at 30+ floor looking directly west with windows top to bottom over entire walls, in the past I had to have UV curtains closed all the time. Now I keep them open and the temperature inside is about the same or lower. Only downside I see is that it always looks like it's cloudy outside even it's sunny. Unfortunately it doesn't make the smog disappear. Top one on below image is 3M, bottom one is Nanotech, starting at 80%, then 60%, 50%, 40% and 30%. The lady that was selling it also had Nanotech, which was clearer (looking through 3M film looked like a tiny bit blur, while Nanotech was just perfect, only darker), but I'm told that despite longer warranty by Nanotech, 3M has better glue. Overall, Nanotech is about 20% cheaper. The website of the shop for 3M is www.goodfilmshop.com. For Nanotech I don't remember, but you could reach out to sales lady Nathita at 094-545-3000 or add her on Line with ID @goodfilm. Hope this helps.
  9. Is the new condo more or less expensive? If less expensive, and you still have that slip that original purchase price was transferred, you can use that. If new condo is more expensive, you'd need to transfer difference from abroad. You can buy condo but can't transfer it unless you can show (with bank form/letter) that entire amount is transferred from abroad. Or so I was told. But then got PR and didn't need to worry about that anymore.
  10. But things are evolving daily, in security. Researchers on Wednesday announced a major cybersecurity find—the world’s first-known instance of real-world malware that can hijack a computer’s boot process even when Secure Boot and other advanced protections are enabled and running on fully updated versions of Windows. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/03/unkillable-uefi-malware-bypassing-secure-boot-enabled-by-unpatchable-windows-flaw/ Badly written article, but you'll get the point of what all is exploitable nowadays...
  11. In my area still going strong despite catastrophic air quality...
  12. Very happy to hear that. Now please follow some of advices in this thread on how to avoid trouble in the future, should you need to deal with immigration again. All the best!
  13. Indeed. Instead, drink micro plastics, pesticides and heavy metals in water, eat hormones and antibiotics laden meat, pesticides and herbicides sprayed fruits and veggies covered in wax, splash all that down with some strong alcohol for disinfection, and go out and breathe the smokey air. And let's not forget all that preservatives that keep all food stuff from going off... Such a healthy lifestyle that will surely make you avoid any doctors until you're 140, right?
  14. Well... election is when you let the biggest group of people select who would run the country. The biggest group of people in most countries are the poorer and less educated, who are also easily swayed by populist promises and vote buying, for having less forward thinking and mostly focusing on immediate needs, out of necessity. Had countries had mostly well-off people with ability to think long term and critically assess information, the government would have actually done the job it's there to do, and, none of the politicians you see in power now would actually be there, but rot in prisons. So, sorry, but most of Thai electorate, like in most other countries, will vote for the most unbelievable lies, without questioning them. Is that a true democracy? You be the judge of that.
  15. Well, Phuea Thai could simply come up with their own worthless coin, based on nothing, value it at 10k baht at launch, give it out, then let it crash to 0. Promise fulfilled. Cost some computer hardware, off-the-shelf software and electricity.
  16. Do you know how to use turn signals? If yes, BMW is apparently not for you...
  17. You don't know why they were looking for her. It might not have reached them and they just did normal rounds. But found nobody home. Be a bit optimistic, else you'll really draw all the wrong attention to you at the airport.
  18. And there's a full circle to the first joke ever posted on this... OK, on original... forum!
  19. 19 average Burmese/Cambodian workers weight less than 8 average farang tourists...
  20. Internal SATA HDD will max out at about 200-250 MB/s. Though there are faster options for servers like 10,000 rpm SAS drives, those aren't supported on workstations. A generic SATA-III/mSATA SSD can reach about 600 MB/s, due to limitations of SATA interface. Same goes for M.2 NGFF type SSD (which is based on SATA) On the flip side, USB 3.2 (Gen 2x2) maxes out at 2.5 GB/s (20 Gbps). Obviously PCI Express Gen 4 is speedier, but limited to internal M.2 PCI-Ex SSD drives. All that aside - M2 Mac Mini has no internal SATA ports, and NAND SSD is soldered onboard. So mounting anything internal into it is not going to be an option. The red box is where NAND flash chips are. Image is of 256 GB model with low speed storage. 512 GB model would have used 2 NAND chips and nearly double the speed. Googled up a bit more on the SSD in 256 GB model: https://www.macworld.com/article/1483183/ssd-speeds-m2-macbook-pro-mac-mini.html
