Using a 5 stage filter (from Pure, if that makes a difference) with UltraFiltration has no strange smell, taste or after taste, and I've been drinking it for a good year now. Can't tell if it's harming me but having done the <deleted> test on filtered water, it's disappointingly showing same or higher than the tap water that goes into filter. <deleted> is always around 200-300 range. Tap water before that is in 150-250 range. It definitely filters out the sand and other solids, just not dissolved ones. At least UV lamp is in it, but still... considering changing to RO filter now, but difficult finding table-top model that hooks up to the faucet since Xiaomi stopped selling them. Most are under-counter type or have own tank at the back. So far only found Coway but no idea whether they are any good?

Should the Thai government ban mobile use for motorcyclists?
tomazbodner replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Like mentioned above, I also disagree with this. Phones are used for GPS navigation, and are crucial for the delivery drivers and just about anyone else driving in unfamiliar areas. They could however enforce some sort of phone mounts to put phones on while driving to see the maps, and ban/fine picking up the phone while moving the vehicle, which could as well extend to the drivers of other vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, etc.). -
Travel international with a DTAC sim, cheapest way?
tomazbodner replied to Digitalbanana's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I've used DTAC roaming (for a while they had a package which had included roaming in monthly post-paid package). It worked, but... The reason for it wasn't really for calls or SMS, but for data, and for that... speed of it was dreadful. Like if I was being locked to like 128 kbps or something. It was OK for chat messages, but even taking a photo and sending it took so long I just gave up and sent stuff off when I hooked up to Wifi. Eventually I gave up and enabled roaming from AIS, which was maaaaaaanny times faster - on SAME network! Hence I could not recommend it. -
Should Expats Be Able to Speak Thai
tomazbodner replied to NickyLouie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Surely there is a very simple way to improve Thai literacy of the expat AseanNow members (at least most of them) by introducing a Thai language exam as part of the extension of stay requirements. Maybe start with retirement extensions? -
That video should be on the first page of Tourism Authority of Thailand's website.

From Morchit bus terminal to Morchit BTS there are no buses except possibly A1 from Don Mueang (not sure it's still running) which goes between Morchit BTS and Morchit bus terminal, once every 15-20 min (at least used to). From Morchit bus terminal your best bet is taxi to Ratchayothin BTS station (4 km or so, 10 min, 50-60 THB). There is dark red line train running from Bang Sue station to north, which passes Don Mueang airport. You can take that train to Bang Sue station, and there change to dark blue line MRT (underground) to Sukhumvit station (interchanges with Asoke BTS station). I don't know where the bus would drop you off but train station has bridge (as it's on the other side of the expressway) near terminal 2 of DMK. Other suggestions: If you go into T1 or T2 of the DMK airport (and need to check that bus is still running) is A1 airport bus every 20 min during daytime, which takes you to the escalator of entrance to Morchit BTS. There's also A3 I believe, which takes you to city center (terminates at Lumpini park on Rama 4 road between Silom and Sukhumvit), and you could get off at Ratchadamri, which is opposite Central World, and from there you could walk a few min to take BTS at Chidlom station. I used to take airport buses from DMK but haven't been there in ages, so I don't know if they are still running. They are fast as they take expressway. Used to live in Pratunam and it was as fast as taxi to get there, for 50 baht. Problem was only that A3 (if I remember correctly) only ran once an hour, but A1 to Morchit was there very often, maybe once per 15-20 min.

Not all antibiotics are the same. They have different effectiveness against different bacteria. What could kill one kind of bacteria very effectively, might have no effect on another. You should really see a doctor and get the bacteria culture made, then 2-3 days later when they know what it is, get antibiotics to kill it. I've had a bacterial infection recently and they've done just that. The doctor showed me a table, where each type of antibiotics had a 0-5 ranking on, based on how effective it was against what I was infected with. You should not just take a random antibiotic off the shelf, as it could make things considerably worse.

Need to print document with high DPI, where to go ?

If you need help, let me know. Although, POA generally needs to be original (as in actual wet signature, not a photocopy). -
Need to print document with high DPI, where to go ?
tomazbodner replied to ExpatO's topic in Bangkok
Not sure that will fly. When I was doing PR application, and had 1200 dpi color laser printed images, which looked stunning (2400 dpi scan, sharpened, printed 1200 dpi), the officer looked at it and said - no good. This is copy. I want original. Had to ask for originals to be DHL'd to me to satisfy him. It's not about resolution. It's about the shine. They ain't stupid and can tell the difference between original and copy. If copy is acceptable. then anything above 300 dpi would do. 600 dpi is bound to look perfect. If you can't get it done any other way, I'll print it for you on a 1200 dpi color laser and have it sent by Kerry to you. But that's provided you send at least 1200 dpi scan of original. If scan is 72 or 150 dpi, then it doesn't matter what you print it on, it'll look rubbish. 300 dpi for black/white documents is what office copiers do, so except for fine print, it should be fine for most purposes. Having worked in graphics a long while ago, I'm a sucker for resolution and want to go as high as it goes. For text, documents, etc. Not for photos or images. 300 dpi dye sub excels for those. If you need it printed and sent, PM me. Your choice of printing it on Canon or HP. Both are 1200x1200 dpi color laser copiers. -
Good they were removed before being put in the will and house owner poisoned off.

tomazbodner replied to ExpatO's topic in Bangkok
How high DPI? Most laser printers are 600 dpi. Honestly, if it's just text, you'd even be pressed to see much difference between 300 and 600 dpi. But what do you actually require? 1200 dpi? 2400 dpi? 3600 dpi? Color? Mono? Grayscale? Graphics or text? For what purpose? Hope not trying to print banknotes... -

There are new electricians needed in Thailand all the time... Kidding. But seriously, this country is in dire need of quality electricians. I hope your nephew is one of them. -
Admitted the Moon landings were fake !
tomazbodner replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I was watching the episode of how Apollo 11 mission went, including actual recordings of the exchanges, and "dark side flyovers" on National Geographic and believe, there are still flags standing on the moon that can be seen from Earth. Now, notably one flag is missing, that's from Apollo 11, the first Lunar landing: https://sservi.nasa.gov/articles/apollo-moon-flags-still-standing/ So did someone go to the Moon? Probably. Else how did flags get there? Were the first Apollo landing photos staged? Probably. But now think of this - For me to make a staging of Lunar landing now, with all the video manipulation equipment available in 2022 would have been a piece of cake. But how would you do something like that back in 1969? Using what, exactly? Photos I understand. Could have been some desert at night, then manually "photoshopped". But how would you fake a video back then? So it is my opinion still that the landings have happened. That the photographs were staged before they ever lifted off and that they have been used as the actually taken photographs were probably useless. NASA always pre-records stuff. Like they did for the teacher who went up (pun intended) with Challenger... where she was telling of what she sees and how she's feeling in space... where obviously the shuttle exploded on the way up. Had it not, that's the recording that would have been played, and people of course believing that was recorded in space. This mission would have probably not been any different. But you can wait for the Chinese to build a base there in 7-8 years: https://spacenews.com/china-claims-progress-on-rockets-for-crewed-lunar-landings-and-moon-base/ Surely you'll have selfies (with digital camera this time) of someone standing next to those flags then. -
They don't... until they get cancer, and then blame everyone else.

Just got WD and a Seagate external drives, as well as some internal ones in Orico and Ugreen enclosures - all 2/4TB models - and formatted them all without any issues on Macs with Catalina. They are for Time Machine and external backup. No issues. Bought from Lazada. Links to the 2 TB external drives I've recently purchased and work well: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/wd-my-passport-2tb-usb-30-hdd-25-wdbyvg0020b-wesn-internal-harddisk-harddrive-i1682426316-s4728048746.html https://www.lazada.co.th/products/seagate-2tb-one-touch-with-password-usb30-external-hard-drive-portable-stky200040x-i2518789230-s11316159800.html

Thai ID card after PR
tomazbodner replied to Honkie's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
At district office, where you were entered into blue book, request it. It's 60 baht and 30 minutes to get it. No extra documentation needed. You can do it same time your address is entered into tabien baan or anytime later. -
Donated as well. I hope sum of donations will make study and life easier for both her and her caring grandmother.
