  1. At a 28 year old it was because it was exciting and affordable. As a 40 year old it was because I could afford to retire here and still found it exciting. At 57, it is less exciting and more of place that I enjoy to kick back and enjoy time with my wife and the beautiful area around our home. Made many of the common mistakes through the years but "I'm Still Kicking".
  2. It's complicated but I took a different approach than most above. Rented for 10 months in the area and after I knew I was OK with living long term, built a house. I live in a beautiful area and a small local tourist town is a couple kilometers away. Make sure you like the area!!!!! Life is too short to waste away in a area you don't love. The building process is too difficult IMO. With that said, I'm very flexible and can easily deal with imperfections. Extremely easy to fix most problems by simply paying for the fix. I would take it slow on the build and add additions as needed. As the years pass, you will have numerous locals that your wife can call to do whatever. Yesterday I had a well drilled. Two months ago a 11mx3m patio extension, three months ago a complete off (on if I want) grid solar system, and next month a car garage with a work area. My advice is just have fun with the build. My biggest mistake was electrical wiring installation. I just assumed the guy would do as I asked. That can be fixed also but with the wiring in the walls, will be a pain in the butt.
  3. Have exercise induced asthma so when it hits here, I'll be exercising in my exercise room watching lots of Youtube. It is frustrating but past being miserable during the short burning season here which last usually 1-2 months. If I lived in Chiang Mai, I would be making plans to escape for a few months.
  4. Famous last words 😉 It's coming...
  5. I like that you didn't fuzz them 🙂 Now I have a better understanding of how you us the ignore function. I like many of the posts some on your list make but to each his own.
  6. That would be interesting. I had a prior but it was 10 years ago and I think it had been a year or two since posting under the old user name when I changed it. Been around since 1998!
  7. Some on the above ignore list IMO are definitely not trolls. It seems to me that you are ignoring members for many reasons other than being a troll. Another thing to consider is that the person you are ignoring might just be having a bad day and being an idiot. In the past I have struggled online trying to understand how certain posters lacked sincere interest in intelligent debate. I'll be honest, it frustrated me to the point this forum was detracting from my quality of life. Now, I've become much better at not letting those that are insincere or lack self awareness frustrate me. This forum is great opportunity to get a a better understanding of how others express themselves. Ignoring users would be counterproductive for me but I get where you are coming from.
  8. Maybe but I think the idea eliminating people that some group deems troublesome is not the solution. I have a choice to respond to them or not engage. My really only major complaint at AN at the moment are a few posters that post numerous summaries with images that literally will consume sometimes 80% of a threads real-estate. That Tallguy... poster is the most aggravating... He makes some good points I gave up on reading his posts. Maybe I should ignore him??? Other than the above, nothing else causes me to get uncomfortably angry.
  9. That has to be the worst post idea I have read recently. Lets all get along by ostracizing those we determine troublesome? That will surely end well...
  10. I think America accomplished as much as it usually does during his first term. I think America will probably accomplish some things in his second term. Not much to add other than that 🙂
  11. Hmm, it does seem like many other people in other democratic countries are celebrating Trump. He is what you get when liberals becomes out of touch with the average person. I look at it as an opportunity for liberals to correct their course and once again represent more of the average everyday grunt 🙂 Nothing wrong with also representing the elite but some rebalancing was needed.
  12. Makes sense from your perspective. I just look at it differently and if I choose, I just ignore (Mentally-no button ) certain posts on threads. In most cases I don't even ignore but simply skim through certain posts. Some posters surprise me and make valid points or simply make me laugh even though they are generally insane IMO. You brought up the report function. This the function I despise 🙂 It is extremely easy to abuse this function and it was done here during Covid. You get a group that immediately reports any post they don't like and sadly the discussion was so limited that many threw in the towel and avoided many topics. Again, definitely a place for the function but should be used rarely and moderators should only delete insincere or "extremely" offensive posts. I'm just a goof living in the sticks so take my opinions with a grain of salt 🙂 Ignoring and reporting people like me that you might disagree with is silly.
  13. I see posters often and by often I mean very often threatening other posters with the ignore button. I think this is weak and in most cases it has nothing at all to do with the the person they are threatening being a troll. I'm not saying there is never an instance where some might benefit from using the ignore but it should be used rarely IMO. As for me, never used it and can't imagine using it. It seems silly to create a bizarre reality where only people you agree with are allowed in which may posters do but up to them. The silly threats though reflect poorly on the person making the threat. There are a couple posters on this thread that do this often so maybe I'm missing something 🙂
  14. Have a small creek that runs into the pond 8 months a year but during the dry season the 20m x20m pond shrinks to around 10mx10m and some fish died last year which was unpleasant to cleanup. Could I just tap into the ground water and keep the pond full year around? Not worried about the electrical cost of the pumps because I have excess solar. Is this something I can do myself or is it something that would require a local "pump" guy. I would rather not advertise I'm tapping into the ground water but many are up stream of us so probably not an issue. Below are some pics of the inlet creek when it is running and when it is dry ( ~4 months).
  15. Funny. The picture reminds me of myself many days. Went camping three days in N Isaan last week and that was me in the mornings. I trust people but few English speakers around that like the same things I do. When not with the wife, I'm in the hills doing my thing solo. Odd life but it works for me.
  16. Not a fan of Newsom but like this initiative if he sincerely wants to make a change. Probably just a political stunt. Doubt it will do much but worth a try. American aren't interested in health. They are addicted to the high food gives them and companies enjoy the profits of bringing them that high.
  17. He played by the rules and won by a landslide. If the rules were changes and popular vote was the deciding factor, he probably would have spent more time in states like California campaigning and thrashed Harris in the nations popular vote.
  18. I read the first ling which obviously you didn't . Again, where is the plenty of proof? Not a silly Yahoo article that clearly sates that the two people are "claiming" that .... I can claim a lot of things and people like yourself might take them as fact. Strange...
  19. There is? Point in the right direction but not to something like the OP. Could be true but I haven't seen "PLENTY" of evidence.
  20. She pays for what she wants and I pay for what I want. I usually want a lot more so spend much more each month. If she didn't have money, I would pay for everything which I have done in other relationships. I tend to pay for most nights out.
  21. Could be but I bet if you showed that pic to other Thai doctors without telling them what the other doc said, you would get another opinion. I definitely could be wrong. My infections looked similar but they didn't spread to other areas like yours. Good luck! Edit: I just looked at some pics of the Rove beetle bites and some look very similar to yours. Curious, what medication did the doctor give you? I usually just keep it clean as you seem to be have been doing using Neosporin or a disinfectant cream and saline water ( sometime only saline). Amoxicillin on very rare occasions.
  22. I enjoy most your posts. Your timing of posting the most frustrating comments is admirable. You understand that most humans are blindly concerned about being correct and enjoy playing with this weakness. Got me a couple times - Cheers
  23. Bet you were fun at the holiday parties.
  24. I don't remember this! That is hilarious and I would never expect it from her. I never gave death any serious thought. Maybe I should but at 57 it still seems premature. I do remember how unattractive 50+ year old women were in my thirties. Now I'm with a woman well into her 5th decade and she is hotter now than any other woman I've been with. Her dying is something I have thought about but rarely.
  25. As for me, I would just put some disinfectant on it or whatever the doc gave you. Alternatively you could go to 1,2,3... more doctors and then choose which diagnoses is the most probable. The Rovo beetle is an interesting option and wonder how he figured this out 🙂 Had these types of infections many times here over the last 25 years. Now living surrounded by water the last 4 years and a plethora of insects, which forced me to be more careful. Been two years now without a nasty looking infection.
