Never blamed Mike. He seemed sincere. I told him in October last year he was wasting his time and I was right. Nothing was learned. We are in the same position as we were in October last year. Please tell what we have learned that we didn't know in October. This is basically rehashing an old law that has been on the books for a long time. Will they enforce it and how it will be implemented in regards to us foreigners is up in the air. I would assume Mike for the most part would admit the same. If the truth hurts - sorry but it is the truth from my perspective. I will be sad to see tax threads disappear because they are extremely entertaining. In Mike's case, he seems to have lost interest in soothing the herd and not soon enough because the herd of nutters was starting to turn on him. Go back to the first post in October last year and then skip forward 2 months at a time and read some of the posts. Hilarious!!!! For whatever reason, I'm not worried much about something that will probably have little impact on me but I may be wrong๐

Agreed but you this debate within a debate is in regards to sleeping in cars ๐ But then again I may be mistaken. Where did this start... ๐ We seem to agree that sleeping in a running car is not a smart thing to do on a regular basis and 99% of people don't do it. I'm falling to sleep as I type about something I'm not sure that is even on point...

Lets keep it simple. My inverter costs 14k baht and will last probably between 10-20 years. Lets use 10 to make you happy ๐ That comes to 1,400 baht a year. Now lets break it down to monthly which is 115 baht. Now I use 600 kWh per month for my house and would use roughly 200 kWhs to to charge my car each month. So the car charging would account for 1/3 of 115 baht monthly amortized cost over 10 years which come to a WHOPPING 38 Baht a month. SO you are right it isn't free. It would cost 38 baht a month to charge my car. To be fair it is really half of that because half the of the depreciation of the inverter is calendar aging and has nothing to do with usage. So lets round down and go for 15 baht. Do you get how silly this proposition of your is? Using big weird terms to describe a pointless agenda is silly. I'm sure you are a swell guy but I'll pass on the invite. We might have become long lasting friends but I'm a probability guy and the odds are quite small. Sorry but thanks for the invitation. Give me the name of your company and I might stop by and treat you to a coffee or whatever if passing by. Congrats on the packaging business and doubt I could have pulled it off here in Thailand. Cheers ๐

OK, but think you would be wise not to have if you sleep in your ICE car? You do know they are widely used for those that sleep in cars with the engine running? Most aren't stupid enough to sleep routinely in their cars without a detector. Truckers use them quite often and now because of the dangers have mostly switched to electronic not diesel driven cooling systems. I'm a risk taker but why take a stupid gamble with your life when a CO detector cost 500 baht. 99% of people don't need one because they don't sleep in their cars while running routinely.
-
Good question but to lazy to get the number but assume it is large. Many people die of CO poisoning. I know of people personally that have had close calls. They now have CO alarms in their vehicles. Very dangerous to sleep in a car with the motor running IMO but so tempting ๐

Is it possible to survive and do business WITHOUT a Smartphone?
atpeace replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in IT and Computers
He wasn't being literal is my guess but you never know with him. I'm not into mobiles and prefer my PC so I could get by for the most part. Today my wifi went out after a storm and is still down. No problem - my mobile hotspot! My treadmill no longer has functioning buttons. No problem - I connect to it through my mobiles Bluetooth. It would be a pain in the buttt. -
How many were in their cars? You could get kinky with the cig lighter I guess...

No, they aren't banging on any doors but simply scared of their own shadows. They are shivering behind their keyboards imagining terrible outcomes and relying on tax experts here on AseanNow-LOL. Since October last year they have been chasing their tails trying to find answers. It is extremely entertaining and even Mike Lister, the ring master seems to have thrown in the towel. The mob was even starting to turn on him when he started admitting there is no new info to obtain and just calmly wait and see. I'm only hoping the Thai tax authorities make another ambiguous statement that is poorly reported on some outlet. These threads are less entertaining because the nutters have lost their position of power but still fun.

Assume he is very fat and his job has a max weight restriction. Happens quite often in certain occupations. His goofy new Big Mac diet is the usual crazy bad diet of these types. I'm not being critical of his character and just being real. His diet will work but each cycle it will become less effective and also the probability of health issues increase dramatically years down the road. He is simply using the ARGUABLY healthy intermittent fasting fad diet and replacing a normal meal with a fat man's dream meal. The danger in this diet is that it is effective if your goal is to drop weight.

OK, you are obviously a nutter. Not a problem - I enjoy your goofy posts. Please explain how my inverter is being derated has ANYTHING to do with using the excess solar to charge my a friends car or for that matter my car. My inverter seems quite happy and I don't get the impression it is in a derated state. It definitely isn't in a derated state when it is charging a car with its extra capacity. What a silly concept you have tried to use to make a point that really isn't that important in the first place. Your logic should be derated... BTW, do you understand the concept of fixed and variable costs? Doubt it but just asking. Rant on about derating and whatever floats your boat. Then again I could start charging friends a derating fee when they plug in. What would be fare price for the this this excess solar I'm not using?

Yes, I agree with the above. The 50% was just a generalization. What I was trying to say is the battery management systems have improved as well as the batteries themselves. This hurts the value of previously purchased EVs. I just installed 6.5 KW of solar and 15 kWh of storage knowing it will be much cheaper in 3 years. Just have to do it at some point. Deflation can kill personal productivity ๐

Great post - enjoyed the read.

That is a problem for EV owners. What is the most expensive part of an EV? It is the battery with its battery management system and the prices for 2020 batteries/BMS which were great and still are good has dropped by more than 50%. It is ironic that the biggest buying concern might be that it would be better to wait because the rate of battery improvements is insanely fast.
-
I think that is a good description of many EV owners. I'm going to buy an EV because I enjoy traveling but don't do it as much as I would like because of the costs to fuel my truck. Also, any type of car from a Porche to a Tesla S doesn't excite me much. Just want to get to where I'm going and do things that do excite me.

I don't know if global warming is reality or not. Neither do you, even though I sense you will tell me you know for sure it is a hoax ๐ I'm not overly concerned about you or 99.99% of people on this earth. You're combining global warming and EV ownership together for some strange reasons. The only reason EVs are taking off is that they are arguably cheaper to drive. It has almost nothing to do with the environment. My cynical opinion ๐

Regular water heater with no problem. Still well under my 6.2 KW limit. Think the 5 second limit is 10KW. My situation is much different than yours. I have a small home and rarely run both ACs at the same time. You probably use as much energy at 3am that I do at noon. I do take cold showers in the afternoon and jump in my ice bath which is an energy hog.

Wow, you are determined. I have free solar power available that if someone doesn't use will go to waste. Derating, ROI, yada, yada, yada, and etc..,. What are you going on about? I fell asleep reading your post. Lets keep it simple. Between 10am and 4pm I usually have a lot of excess power that can be used by someone at no cost to me. I could also use it if I had a EV and it would be basically free. You can go on about derating and ROI but still doesn't change the fact that the EV (if I had) could be charging for free because solar produces excess power during certain parts of the day.

That is what I did with my camper during Covid. Had about .4kw of panels on it which was perfect almost. Not so much in the hotter months and 5 years ago batteries were expensive. My AC in the camper would drain my 12v/100ah battery in 3-4 hours. I just stopped using it. If I did it today, I could set it up with a 48v/100ah battery (almost the same price as my small battery 5 years ago) and AC would run all night. Also drop in a lifepo4 12v/100ah battery under the hood to replace the 12v acid. I would be camping with enough to power for a small home. I travel with exercise equipment too - I know a little over the top.

Think you can answer that... I myself wouldn't replace my RV with a MG ๐
-
Good question. My guess after watching some Tesla owners videos is 1 hour for every KWh of battery storage. Would have to be careful if going to Khao Yai for a weekend.

Here is why it is free IMO and my situation. I needed extra solar production to power the house during cloudy days and more importantly times that I use a lot of energy. I think most people would install 2-5x their expected energy needs. I installed 2x (6.5 KW) my ~3kw draw during certain times of the day. I don't have an EV but told my sister and brother in-laws yesterday they can charge their EVs anytime during the daytime for free at my place. Why not - it is free for me. Your analogy of an AC and a fridge doesn't work if you slow down and think it through. I could tell you why but I have a feeling you would just argue. You can figure it out. Hint - does your fridge and AC communicate with your solar system and determine when to and when not to draw power and even if they do wouldn't your food spoil and you would be quite hot at times if either stopped drawing energy. You seem determined to make a point without thinking through your logic. What you stated definitely makes sense for a few individuals but not for most with solar.

EV charging really wasn't in my plans but I realized after installation that it wasn't going to be an issue because the way solar produces energy. I think many that don't have solar have a hard time wrapping their head around extra benefits that pop up after installation. For example after 8am in my case ( North facing panels - BTW- IMO are best) I am able produce 1-4KW excess energy. Can charge an EV and run water pumps that I usually used rarely because they use lots of watts, etc. There isn't an extra cost because the extra solar production is needed for periods of high energy usage or little solar production when the EV and solar pumps would not be drawing energy. Currently it is sunny at 8:30am and probably have about 4 KW of solar production waiting to find an appliance or whatever that needs energy. Only wished I had a 10kw inverter vs 6.2 and about 4 more panels so I could fast charge an EV. Not a big deal but the extra production would have only been around 20k baht.

Spent a year travelling N America in a VW camper. Perfect for that situation but for weekend trips in hot Thailand I would go the EV route.
