what about after food, this is when most smokers love to light up !!!
Correct! My apologies - most smokers do, but I found that the 2nd hardest to give up - "the fag and a pint" was traditional in my youth!

I know how she feels. It's so hard to give up. How did you do it? Any tips. Most of my friends back home did it vaping. I wish Thailand would legalise vaping. Maybe I should try hypno therapy.I finally stopped after the 3rd attempt (6 months each time) 6 years nicotine free now after more than 50 years, and before quitting completely was down to half a cig a day - seems sad now! My tip - slowly! First step, not in the house, second step not on the balcony, last step - not in the bar with your booze! (That was the hardest part!)

"individuals who keep trying to abuse every loophole and crack in the system to stay long-term for purposes other than tourism."
Like wanting to stay long time because they like it here, or have formed relationships? Oooh - naughty apples!

They provide stable long term employment for Thai people as the economy changes from agricultural to industrial. Same thing happened in the West. Less people can produce more food on the farms so employment needs to be provided for the displaced workers.
Good point! As long as the jobs are taken by Thais and not "immigrants" doing the job for half the wages!

Definitely need to update the title of this thread.
As usual people are reading the headline and posting without realising that the thread has taken a new direction ( not damning just stating a fact ).
The person in question is an autistic teenage Thai boy who has been known to act in a similar wY before, locals are aware of this and therefore not creating a scene."The person in question is an autistic teenage Thai boy"
"Chinese tourist in Bangkok caught defecating in street next to shocked diners"
So, bearing (baring?) in mind that some Chinese tourists are prone to act in this manner, (e.g. females urinating in taxis or on trains) are we to believe the former or the latter?
-
And in the meantime - if you are a "farang" over the age of 50, and do not have not got 800,000 baht in a THAI bank account - go back home!
Or if you want quantity rather than quality - som nom na! (app!)

"I avoided seeing the movie "Trainspotting" for years until someone told me it wasn't about wallies but druggies."
A transexual guy in my home town went see the film shown under this post, and was soooo disappointed when he found out it was about motor car racing!

There has been far to much dishonesty by foreigners over the years and them and all their mates think they can get away with anything as long as if their fought can pay a dishonest Officrr a bribe and everything will be ok and go away even if they have killed one of the locals
It's about time it was all stopped and people suffer the harshest punishments that can be given to them in Thailand not deported back to their own countries so they can come back and do the same over and over again
If things are changed maybe the Thai women might find decent husbands instead of being used, abused and then killed by foreigners
if their fought can pay a dishonest Officrr a bribe and everything will be ok and go away even if they have killed one of the locals
"If their fought" ?
"even if they have killed one of the locals" And how often has that happened compared to the number of times that tourists/ex pats have been scammed, assaulted, robbed, raped or murdered?

Completely true the people here love to bash the Thais but if their own beloved nationality gets a bit of bad press they start to cry.
I wonder when people will understand you got idiots everywhere Thai, English, Dutch, German, American. I guess its easier to bash people to feel superior for some people.
"if their own beloved nationality gets a bit of bad press they start to cry."
Prone to exaggeration as always! No one is crying here - just commenting on things as I/we/they see them.

I don't think it's Brits. There are three threads running now so every one can take a turn at slamming American women for beating Thailand 13 to 0. One thread would be normal but three is a conspiracy. The Thai team also beat the Cambodians 11 to 0 but that fact didn't warrant one thread let alone 3.
Basically the same anti American stuff over and over. I think every other post is in violation of policy but one has to consider the who is being bashed. Western women and Americans. Heck that's almost as good as ......
Since total points scored win in case of ties a team would be nuts not to run up the score but that is never seen or mentioned. It is just over and over again bad sportswoman-ship. Remember the Aussies and that cartoon of black American tennis player - now that was an offensive thread in spades. Racism, Anti Americanism and anti woman.
What are you on about?

Correct! As one pundit said "The Premier League is probably the best football league in the World, but the trouble is it's full of foreigners!" And I think Chelsea were the first team to play a full squad without an Englishman in it!

What is it about Britain that seems to get everybody who posts on Thai Visa becoming overcome with emotion at the moment? It may be the fiasco about Brexit, and for that I don't blame them, but from a ThaiVisa post from 18 hours ago:-
"Farang checkout thief who stole 2,000 baht from Thai shopper returns the money - He's British"
Is there really any need to emphasise the fact in such an antagonistic way? And from a more recent post - admittedly it's a translation of a caption in Thai on aphotograph, but:-
"Caption: Arrest of man from the land of gentlemen (Britain) Visa ran out 7 years ago. Sneakily running a bar in Hua Hin. He was arrested at house number 22/8 on Phoonsuk Road in downtown Hua Hin."
Sarcastic in the extreme, and is there any need to publish his address other than to let potential housebrekers be aware that the house is unoccupied while he is in custody!
It seems that for any "farang" story to be newsworthy these days, the nationality has to be British, and in most cases it seems to be negative comments. If the post is on a more positive note, then usually the headline is more vague e.g. "Foreign visitors clean beaches", or "Farang helps old lady to cross the road" - theoretical comments, but you get my drift?
Does anybody else get this feeling of an increase in anti Brit sentiment, or am I just being paranoid?

I predict 30 plus pages of Brit bashing now, par for the course on here, but you cannot tar everyone with the same brush. (From a proud Brit !).
Yes - the headline seems to take great pleasure in pointing out that the "fat geezer" was a Brit.
How's about someone fining him for damaging the image of Britain, or adding him to a "Brits Behaving Badly" list. It seems that in this case the adverse publicity has had the desired effect:- "I asked him about being shamed on social media but he didn't respond. I think that he saw himself or people who know him saw him on the video." And he probably doesn't know what a "wai" is - probably thinks it's a question!

"Surely move to London then, if you love it that much?"
Nowhere is perfect, so someone along the line is bound to complain about something - that doesn't mean that they should be given the "if you don't like it, go home" ultimatum.
And I do not see the logic in the following comment:-
"complain about everything, just because the cost of living and the cost of romance is cheaper?"
Surely you mean "even though" rather than "just because"?

The lady that dropped the note has already confirmed that it was a 1000 baht note. She says it was 2 notes stuck together and was a total of 2000 baht she lost.
However if you want to start a poll then please do 555
So let's get silly here - from "maybe a 20 baht note" to "it was a 20 baht note" to "looks more like a 1000 baht note to me" to the lady herself "confirming that it was a 1000 baht note" that suddenly became 2 notes stuck together so it was 2000 baht! If there was a 5000 baht denomination note - the mind boggles!

New laws target people in Thailand who smoke at home

What about banning loud music too? - the sort that is blasted out before breakfast by the Buddhist temples? Or the rib trembling bass thump coming from the speakers at rock concerts, or even some bars, clubs, and discos?
Why not stop people drinking too? The cost of treating alcohol related diseases must be enormous
Why not stop people eating types of food that are not good for them? (McDonalds, french fries etc) Obesity related health issues are becoming a world wide problem.
Why not just stop people having/doing anything they enjoy, and be done with it - let them know who knows what's best for them!!!
