Some of you people need some serious counseling.

Your hate and disdain for Chinese is mind boggling.

You don't like the way they eat?  Then don't watch them.

They are loud?  Then wear headphones and listen to music as you walk around.

They ruin hotels?  Then stay in a better place.

I can go on and on.

The hate is too the point that we might read on TV at some point:  Falang rents truck and runs over 35 Chinese tourists at Nimman….

Come on people.  A little maturity and tolerance can go a long way.  My experience is if they are too loud ask them to quiet down and they will apologize and do so.  And you cannot change their culture but you can change your thinking.

It all seems to be making some of you so angry and ruining some of your lives.

Wow, pretty sad grow up it is mostly your issue sorry.....

I don't agree - why should the poster have to adapt his lifestyle to suit the disgusting and bad manners of other tourists or visitors?

My take on it would be that he wouldn't be criticising the Thai government by complaining that one of their IO's isn't following the regulations stipulated by the government, he would be helping them. Having said that I wouldn't do it because in all likelihood nothing would come of your complaint but now you have one p1ssed off IO who wants your scalp.

Actually the IO that I was referring to is no longer there, and rumours abound as to the reason, but I'm not about to add to them on here! And you are probably right in saying that nothing would come of your complaint - it might be different if there were a few dozen!

I do not criticize the the present Government they have my support and you miss the point again it is this government that is clamping down on immigration officials just like the one you mention and police officials alike.

You needed to say it twice? ????

Joking apart, thank you for clarifying your position, but I stand by mine too! Have a nice day!

Yes stop poncing about and tell me or you afraid immigration Thailand is watching you on TV.

    Not quite but near enough!

You should know that emails can be traced and that is the only way that I can see for a complaint to be registered and acknowledged. Do you expect me to send a letter of complaint to the Chief of Immigration with a stamped and addressed return envelope?

You should also be aware that it is still a criminal offence to criticise the Government, and Thai Immigration is a part of that Government :-

"May 15, 2018 - Bangkok Post editor 'forced to step down' over critical coverage of Thai military juntagovernment."

    And from Apr 13 2017:-

"The military-run government of Thailand has announced a ban on all online interaction with three of its most prominent overseas critics. A letter from the digital economy and society ministry warned citizens that engaging on the internet with the Thai academics Somsak Jeamteerasakul and Pavin Chachavalpongpun as well as the journalist Andrew MacGregor Marshall could violate the law."

And I have been in an Immigration Office when someone asked for an Extension of Stay 2 weeks before it was due, and without going into all the details, the IO (Immigration Officer) concerned said " I don't care what it says in the rules - I make the rules here" and the extension was refused.

So, it's all very well you saying:-

"You can report immigration office just the same as a police station to the army man in charge if they do not follow the correct directive."

I have been living in Thailand for some time now, and have accepted it "warts and all" and yes, there are some things that I don't agree with about the place, but at the end of the day it is their country, and I am not about to jeopardise my future here by "sticking my neck on the block" by complaining to someone who doesn't appear to give foreigners a very high placing on his Xmas Cards list!

Yes, you can report them, preferably from from the comfort of your armchair in a country far, far away, but I am not prepared to risk the possible consequences of foolhardiness, and that is exactly what a traceable complaint would be from a "keyboard warrior"!

It continually amazes me that carrying 20k THB (~$600 USD) in cash is seen as an onerous task and a "ridiculous hurdle".

Can Thai Immigration look at a credit/debit card and know that it is an open working account, the amount of credit available, etc.?

Geeeeeeeez. 1503 replies to this topic. Somebody give me the gist.

Now 1516 replies up to press! For the gist you could try reading one or two, but as you have obviously been stunned into immobility:-

No further Proof of Income letters will be issued by 4 major Embassies in support of an application to Thai Immigration for an annual extension to visa (Retirement Visa) after January 2019 as they say they can not verify the financial information given in order for them to issue the said letter. Hence, many ex pat pensioners living here are a bit concerned, as the only alternative at present is to have a large sum of money sitting in a Thai bank (800,000 baht in the case of a single person, 400,000 baht if you are married to a Thai national) and left untouched for 3 months, or prove that they have 65,000 baht (on average) going into a Thai bank every month (40,000 baht if married to a Thai national).

Hence, 1516 posts and counting - all clear now? (I wish!)

Fortunately, for all of us, this type of event is rare here. I just do not hear about alot of violent crimes against foreigners, like in many other countries, such as the PI, and Cambodia. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

Hope they catch the goons who did this. And hope they are able to find a judge willing to lock them up. Not an easy thing to find.

Sorry Spider, but it appears that the "robbery" was a non- event. The Aussie guy concerned should be charged with tarnishing Thailand's reputation!

I am here for several days.

"Decimated" is not how I would describe it at all seems lots of people walking around, eating etc.. Typical also lots of Chinese at Maya and Nimman.

As far as Falang especially US this is their Christmas season do not expect them rushing to Thailand as most stay home with families for the next month or so.

"As far as Falang especially US this is their Christmas season"

It has always been the "Falang" Christmas season during the Thai "High Season", but it used to be a lot busier than it has been of recent years, and this is because the "Land of Smiles" is not considered by tourists as the attractive place that it used to be.

IMHO this is due to the negative publicity, (Koh Tao etc), the low exchange rate, (When I first came here I was getting 73 baht to 1 British pound - now it's down to 42 baht), and the fact that the country is being run by a military junta that is perceived as not having visitors' interests down as one of their highest priorities (regardless of TAT's continual optimistic statistics). The last point will not only have a negative effect on the numbers of repeat visitors, but they will also be letting their views be known to friends and relations, which is in effect a "double whammy" for Thailand's tourist trade.

Not all expats are on Thaivisa and many who are won't post or will post very little if they aren't affected. We don't know what will happen next year, slowly but surely all IO's will be aware of the situation and if there is no directive from TI (unlikely IMO) then we will be at the mercy of the different IO's individual decisions, some will be co-operative and understanding, eg. look at your past record and monthly sums coming into a Thai bank account and others will not. Speculation and panic doesn't help, I personally am optimistic that a solution will be found in the coming months.

I am also hopeful that a solution will be found in the following months, and hope that that solution will be applied across the board by all Immigration Officers so that all offices are working to the same rules. :cheesy:

But they are Thais right ? So good to see they also catch the locals and not only foreigners.

I can't see anything in the post to indicate the nationalities of the "scum" involved, but you can almost guarantee that if they'd been from Liverpool or London you would be made aware of it!

  12. What annoys me is the fact that now even the town or city In the UK is becoming relevant to the storyline.

If the perpetrators were from say, Uganda would the headline say "Wanted Kampali brothers"? Or if they were from Kenya would the headline specify that "Wanted brothers are from Nairobi", or "Wanted brothers are from Mombasa"?

These type of headlines imply that people from certain towns/cities in the UK are more likely to be a danger to society than others - what does it matter whether they are from "Liverpool", "London", "Manchester" or "Ecclefechan"?

The mere fact that they are from the UK should be enough - usually it's "Brits" or "Swedish" or "Norwegian" or "Russian" or "Chinese" or "Mongolian" - why bring the cities where they hail from into it?
