"The projection is in line with the central bank’s estimate but far below the 6.5 million tourists projected by the government’s Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)."
Does ANYBODY believe the ridiculous forecasts by TAT any more? They might as well employ Anutin to read out their "guesstimates", because they both seem to be in the habit of making "U Turns"!

Phuket - you are welcome to as many Chinese tourists as you want!
That lessens the possibility of them swamping our resort! "From what I hear", before Covid the droves of Chinese were not welcome here, and in spite of Covid decimating the industry, they are still not.

Thais go to the polls on Sunday for the first time since 2011, which also means there will be a 24-hour alcohol ban this weekend.
Alcohol sales and distribution will be forbidden from 6pm on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday.Officials say weddings, parties and other celebrations can still be organised for these dates but there must be no alcohol served or consumed.
"Weddings, parties and other celebrations can still be organised for these dates but there must be no alcohol served or consumed."
For those who are having their wedding or big celebration for which they have probably been saving up all year, and in the case of farangs, paid through the nose and jumped through all kinds of hoops to be among the privileged few allowed into the country - "WELCOME TO PARADISE"!

Are you serious, live in Thailand?
You need a source about the election?
I don't. Terrible loudspeaker monsters passing every hour and shouting for their candidate.
Reason: it's called the election law.
Same for every election since I remember.
I think it's called sarcasm! (Which is also called the lowest for of wit!)

How is having a drink at a bar compared to having one at home going to effect a local election?
Especially as you're probably not allowed to vote anyway!

I read somewhere that Thailand is now being vaunted as a possible "key logistics hub"
Another "hub"? Thailand seems to have more hubs than a Raleigh Bicycle Factory!

Why do you write this stuff, are paid paid or just bored? You forgot to tell us how long you have lived here this week.
Is this sarcasm or irony?

What a misleading statement. It doesn't say any age range and Bht 21093 divided by 142 = Bht 148 per bottle of whatever size they want.
I can only think of one or two places where they could get away with charging 148 baht for a bottle of beer! And they ain't in my home town!

The media said that the authorities in Thailand were trrying to reduce alcohol consumption by 10% by 2025.
That won't go down well with Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi! (Owner of Chang Beer)

Read a report that they've borrowed short term loans to offset the pandemic last year and will have to borrow the same this year. Those short term loans are now draining the coffers just to repay. In the same report some 3 billion dollar plus has exited Thailand in the first two months of this year. Long been speculated that Thailand's foreign reserves had artificially propped up the bath, maybe now showing as they've had to dip into those foreign currencies the last year.
"Thailand's foreign reserves had artificially propped up the bath"
Just had a mental image of farang footballers making sure that Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan doesn't overturn while performing his ablutions!

You read correctly. Not only that, but they make great pets and companions. I don't mean that to sound dumb, but it is their devotion and eagerness to please humans that enable them to be trained in this way. they will do anything for a treat and a pat on the head

... for Thai only ...
My guess is farang will get it after they vax all the soi dogs...
Until they allow private institutions to peruse their own supply of vax and sell it... I don't expect to get it in Thailand for years or until all Thai's are vax'ed)...
I expect to be able to get it in my home country around the end of the year... (but that, I feel is overly optimistic... lol)
"Until they allow private institutions to peruse their own supply of vax and sell it..."
I believe that is already being offered - at 2000 baht a shot!

I agree re Yingluck; IMHO both abuse of authority re transfer of a civil servant and the massive corruption both key points.
Not sure what your point is re Big Joke.
I think that what is being said is that BJ was treated simillarly to Yingluck in that he was also removed from his post presumably for "abuse of power" (But in his case I think he stepped on someone's toes as well!)

1 hour ago, Jonathan Swift said:A rise in xenophobia is understandable with the presence of Covid. As the Covid threat dissipates, so will much of the prejudice. Inflammatory comments by "leaders" are usually taken for what they are. Your statements and assumptions are too broad to be accurate - and I can attest that there are still plenty of Americans who consider Thailand a good prospect. I haven't run into anyone whose sentiments have changed for any reason other than the risk of travel with Covid. And, in fact, since Thailand is much safer than the US, for that reason alone Thailand is a much more attractive prospect.
The attitude towards "farangs" began to change LONG before Covid, and the empty streets and bars of the "tourist resort" where I have lived for many years were apparent a long time ago. Even then, you got some clown from TAT saying that tourist figures were xx% UP, but when you asked ""Well, where are they all, then?" you got the idiotic reply that they had all gone up North to discover the proper Thailand"!
I am sure that many people on here can bear testimony to that fact, and I am sure that the picture from Hua Hin of a British pensioner lady being kicked in the head having previously being knocked to the ground is still fresh in a few people's memories - regardless of whether she and her family were "mao", that was disgusting behaviour. Unfortunately, that was not a one off as there are MANY stories of"farangs" being beaten up over something trivial as a disputed bar bill, or disputed damage to a rented motor bike or jetski, let alone "road rage" where most Thais (apparently) carry some kind of weapon in their cars. Add to that, the carnage on the roads (some of the most dangerous in the world), and the rigmarole and unnecessary paperwork you have to fill in, photocopy, and sign (Every year - even if there has been no change in your circumstances) in order to obtain a retirement or marriage visa from Immigration ("We are here to help you"
) you are some way towards realising why Thailand is no longer the attractive destination that it was. And there are MANY other factors that are taken into consideration by would be retirees - the strength of the baht is a big factor when you don't have a huge pension or savings, and the dual pricing at "tourist attractions" (and some restaurants!) all go towards having a negative impact on Thailand's "image" as a welcoming destination for would be retirees.

"Thailand suffers sharp fall in rankings of best countries for retirement"
"But one of its lowest scores was in the Visas/Residence category where it scored just 57. The Index cited difficulties for retiree expats in Thailand obtaining permanent residency and a lack of special residence options for retirees.
Absolutely no surprise there whatsoever!
