  1. THE P.M. Should be more strong and effectieve. When policeman or soldiers no matter there ranking be cought in a criminal aktivity, a big or a little one, take EVEREYTHING the have, property, land, mony, cars and so on and so on.

I think that more than half the army people and half the police people should be in Yale! The P.M. Have to do something on the corruption, if he don't Thailand is lost!

Agree with your sentiments, and I can see that English is not your native language, but this made me laugh, and maybe true!

"I think that more than half the army people and half the police people should be in Yale!"

    1. "Yale University is a private Ivy League research university in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701 as the "Collegiate School," the university is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Wikipedia"
  2. Really! That's absolutely shocking! How did that happen?

555...yes, who would have thought he would have read the news, watched the TV, opened his email and answered his phone, all just to avoid a stealth raid of 300 troops on his house. Completely shocking! 555

I also laughed when I read that his 'assets' had been seized; i.e. a car and a van. You can be sure that the balance of his real assets, such as bank accounts and offshore stashes of cash, less, of course, payment for his 'early warning' system--were not seized.

Police impounded his assets which also included a luxury Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Fortuner van.

    And today @ 16.03 :-

BANGKOK: -- The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) will examine the 100 million baht worth of assets belonging to Mr Patchubun Angchotipan, former head of Satun provincial administration organization, to determine whether any of the were illegally acquired.

The assets include two Mercedes Benz, one speed boat, a 28-room resort on Lee Peh island, three car license plates worth about two million baht, two guns and a passenger boat modified from a fishing vessel. They were impounded by police as a manhunt was launched for his arrest.

But, once again, as so many times before, the chick has flown the nest, and have the goods actually been impounded, or a warrant been issued to impound them,in the same way that a warrant has been issued for his arrest?

Could be something lost in translation here!

  3. Funny how the owner of the car (who presumably gave her permission to drive it whilst she was underage and uninsured) has never been named, far less prosecuted. Wonder why that is.

She is of the Na Ayudhya family. No further comments needed

It's not that straightforward. Consider the "Windsor" name in Britain. Nobody would rational suggest that Barbara of that ilk has the same level of privilege or social status as Brenda, Brian and the rest of the tribe. It's the same with the na ayudhaya clan.

" It's the same with the na ayudhaya clan."

I think not! I think that as soon as the judge saw the surname, the punishment, or lack of it was already a foregone conclusion.

  4. 4 years on probation..........for being responsible for the deaths of 9 people..........this should definately be in the international media..!

A most disgraceful display of the Thai justice system.........

    I wonder - who's her Daddy?

Sorry - have just read some of the earlier posts - I am totally underwhelmed and unsurprised by the fact that she comes from a "hi-so" family.

Once again - I think money has been talking!

  5. he Royal Thai Police commissioner said he was ready to keep transferring police...

Stop transferring! Start sacking, arresting, charging,, jailing!

I think I they have to have an investigation first as they would elsewhere. The OP does mention this.

Suspects are ARRESTED, not transferred, unless you are a Thai policeman. Tell me which country does arrest suspects of serious crimes?

Agree with your sentiments, but I think you missed the word "not" out of your second sentence i.e.should it not read " Tell me which country does NOT arrest suspects of serious crimes?"

  6. Just read that 38 cops involved in it have been transferred to inactive posts.

    Joke of a country.....failed state.

And in the USA, cops under investigation are suspended with pay. So they won't interfere with the investigation into their own actions. But a suspended cop has plenty of time on his hands (on our nickel and close to home, no less) to interfere.

A cop transferred to an inactive post still has to clock in... and many miles away from the investigation.

I'm not so sure they don't have it right- as long as the transfer isn't the punishment, but just a procedure to prevent interference while facts are divined and the real punishment is decided.

We are always hearing this same old story/excuse/official line - "transferred to an inactive post"

Have you EVER read an article saying " Police Sgt/ Lieutenant/Colonel/General (Insert Thai name here) who had been transferred to an inactive post on suspicion of (Insert crime here) was today sentenced to x years in jail"?

    In my experience - NEVER!

  7. The audacity of this man Prayuth it is unbelievable! To ask why nothing had been done about the problem by previous government's belies the fact that he has buried his head in the sand for over 2 years and done nothing! In January 2013, when Army officers were linked to Rohingya smuggling he was well aware of what was going on. A report at the time stated,

"Reportedly, army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha is also aware of the possible incrimination of army officers in people smuggling and has announced his intentions to "eradicate" the "bad army officers"."

So after 28 months, what has he done? Nothing!! How dare he blame others when he has known what has been going on for years! What a disgrace he is and probably a laughing stock throughout the world! He has failed the poor Rohingyas, and cost more lives due to his lack of action. How dare he blame others!

Thanks for that info - I, and I am sure that many here on TV were unaware of that. If true, (and I have no reason to doubt that it is not) then he should be reminded about his previous "intentions", or perhaps this is the sort of awkward question that he complains about from the media?

  8. The task of tackling human trafficking has to be jointly tackled and it should be understood that the problem did not originate in Thailand, he said, adding the Kingdom was just a transit point...

Uh-huh. Poor innocent Thais, duped into being accomplices.

What a sick twist of words.

He is absolutely correct it is not just Thailands problem and needs to be tackled by every country involved if it is ever to be stopped.

Cutting Thailand out as a link in the chain may hamper the smugglers but will not stop this insidious trade.

The transfer of the cops and officials who are apparently involved would seem an obvious move as it prevents them interfering in the investigation and getting at potential witnesses.

It is good that we now see the victims that are being found being treated as victims and witnesses rather than criminals as they were in the past when the Yingluck administration jailed then deported 60 Rohingya, straight back into the hands of the traffickers with no investigation whatsoever.

Sure some have been charged with illegal entry but the have to be detained and kept somewhere they cant just be left wandering the streets or forests and there has to be some excuse to keep them.

But then possibly some of the know it all's on here have better ideas they would like to share instead of criticism.

What a sick twist of words.!! DHUUUU where is the sick? where is the twisted? in that post? What the general has said is basically now it has been exposed we accept the problem however it is not any of our fault. Can you not see how clownish this sounds? Obviously not!!!!

The general did not say that the trafficking wasn't Thailand's fault. Hypocrisy to accuse someone else of twisting words and then do it yourself.

Currently Thailand is trying to deal with the problem which has existed for years. There are many players in the 'game' here and they've only started. No one has denied that trafficking has occurred here on a large scale.

Prayuth is absolutely correct to involve Myanmar & Malaysia as both are complicit in the treatment of the Rohingya and a Malaysian NGO has even admitted that they are not above traeting the trafficked victims as virtual slaves & Malaysia is on the same tier 3 as Thailand. Myanmar is the source of the problem as the country doesn't want them and many have to live in camps to avoid being attacked & killed by groups led by ultra-national Buddist (terrorist by some descriptions) monks.

He did not say that it was not Thailand's problem, but he did imply that Thailand was only a minor participant i.e. " adding the Kingdom was just a transit point... "

However, that is a bit like saying that the trafficking is not Thailand's fault and that the Kingdom is a bit like the "piggy in the middle" which I do not agree with, especially as now more than 50 police officers have been transferred as a result of their supposed involvement in this evil trade.

His statement would have been more acceptable if he hadn't tried to "dodge the bullet" and merely asked if people would accept the fact that it wasn't JUST Thailand's fault, and that all 3 countries should shoulder the responsibility.

  9. 53 sudden "over-night transfers"... why not 53 extra arrest warrants ??

Hopefully they've been transferred out the way so they can't interfere with the investigations which may produce evidence to charge some or all of them.

This one ain't gonna be swept under the carpet like before.

You DO sound confident! I wish I shared your optimism!

  10. "Meanwhile a total of 53 policemen have been transferred in a sudden midnight order amid a pending probe into crimes related to the trafficking of Rohingya labourers."

First time I have seen a reference to policemen being transferred without a mention of "inactive posts".

Is it possible that the message is getting through to someone that this expression is received with incredulity by the rest of the world - especially in the West, where, as already mentioned theses officers would probably have been suspended without pay.

And I don't hold with the theory that they are "inactive". Maybe inactive as far as work is concerned, whistling.gif but probably not inactive in trying to find ways to cover their backsides!

  11. Poor kid. A very hairy experience

He escaped serious injury by a hair's breadth.

All joking aside, hope a speedy recover. Kid will probably revert to a skinhead for the rest of his life. Poor little dude. We'll probably never see hide nor hair of him in the future.

Why do you say "all joking aside" and immediately take a cheap shot like " We'll probably never see hide nor hair of him in the future."?

  12. In reply to robblok Post #39:-

"BANGKOK: -- Royal Thai Police commissioner today ordered a mass transfer of 38 police officers from Satun, Ranong and Songkhla to the Royal Thai Police Operation Centre in Bangkok"

I wouldn't imagine they'd find it all that hard to find out where in the Royal Thai Operation Centre their co-transferees were pursuing their "inactive posts" and hence be able to take an "active" part in getting their stories to tally, for instance.

  13. There was a large lady and her daughter facing the wrong way on downwards escalator in Bnk Airport the other year - not sure where from ,maybe Russia - I think the lady was drunk - anyway i had a gut feeling something was about to happen-and yes they fell just before the end -my instincts told me to yank them off the floor quick !(ive heard stories of trapped hair too) not even a thankyou and the husband just stood and watched ! Must have looked quite funny on the airport cameras though ,i was like a little ninja smile.png

"There was a large lady and her daughter facing the wrong way on downwards escalator in Bnk Airport"

"not even a thankyou and the husband just stood and watched !"

    Yup - sounds like Russians

  14. Because they aren't fired. They keep their rank and paycheck in exchange for not ratting out the big fish.

That is a bit premature.. they are transferred away so they cant interfere with the investigation. Who knows what will happen if they are found to be guilty.

Unless of course you expect stuff to be crystal clear right away.

Is that the norm in the USA to just throw someone in jail and find out later if they are guilty ? Where I come from people are put on non-active so they can't come to work during the investigation. Here they transfer them out before the investigation commences.

In your wish to bash Thailand logic seems to escape you.

You can bash Thailand all you want if the investigation does not yield any convictions (and I will join you then) now its a bit premature.

The "norm" in the USA and many western countries, would be immediate suspension without pay, pending investigation, or arrest to prevent witness tampering, depending on the case and the available evidence. They certainly wouldn't be put together in the same place, where they can conspire to beat the case, in air conditioned comfort and with full pay... If you must know.

My sentiments exactly (See Post #30)

  15. Good.

The discovery of these mass graves is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

Why don't they just say these officers have been fired? Why say 'moved to an inactive post'?

Perhaps they have not been fired yet.

There is always the little matter of proof of what they have supposedly done before thaey can be charged with a crime.

They can however be transferred to a place where they can do little damage and an eye can be kept on them.

"Perhaps they have not been fired yet."

Please replace the word "perhaps" with "probably', or delete altogether.

"There is always the little matter of proof of what they have supposedly done before thaey can be charged with a crime."

Quite right, but possibly, the little matter of making arrangements for certain pieces of incriminating evidence to be mislaid/lost - oops, sorry, conspiracy theory.

"They can however be transferred to a place where they can do little damage and an eye can be kept on them."

Or transferred to a place where they can carry out making the above arrangements without anybody keeping an eye on them.

  16. Unfortunate some parens seems to believe that "now when we are not at home we can let our kids do what ever they want".

Not so long time ago there was an arabic foreign family at BugerKing Siam, and their kid was running around the staff behind the counter, and the parents did not care, the staff brought the kid back to the parent, and they kept an eye on the boy for a few seconds then that boy was running around in the kitchen.

The staff brought the boy out, and the parents more looked like they were wondering what the staff was doing bringing the kid out rather than where have our boy been. After that one staff started to hinder him by the cashier so he could not get in again. And he tried, a lot.

How could they not care about their kid running around in the kitchen, First of hygienic reasons, but maybe more, boiling oil, knifes, hot stoves, slippery floors...

Yes, certain nationalities do not seem to know how to discipline their kids or "bring them up right" and unfortunately there will be accidents because of this. Again, unfortunately, the parents will think they have done no wrong, and will be blaming all and sundry for something which happened because of their ignorance.

  17. Why on earth was he playing on an escalator ? I know kids will be kids but hopefully after this experience his family will be paying more attention to him in the future. These things can be dangerous and are not play areas.

Quite agree, but with a family of 9, it was maybe a case of "Well, I thought you were looking after him!"
