Thailand Targets Tougher Alcohol Laws to Align with Global Norms
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"He has urged the public, particularly motorists, to remain sober, citing the long-term health risks young drinkers face." How about the short term risks of fatal accidents due to drunken drivers? "Rungarun Limlahaphan, Director of the Social and Health Risk Control Section at the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, reported a slight decline in national drinking rates, from 28.4% in 2017 to 28% in 2021." What about from 2022 to 2023 - they've had nearly a year to scrutinise those figures - too difficult for them to add up? "Anticipated to be deliberated in January, alongside other related bills, the draft law focuses on the regulation of alcohol sales hours, potentially altering the current 2–5pm ban to match global norms. About bleedin' time!!! -

I also thought he was seriously ill, and was supposed to go to jail for 8 years 1 year? -
My issue is that too many people in Thailand are attacked and/or killed by out of control dogs, mainly Pit Bulls, and XL Bullies, and the authorities seem to be reluctant to do anything about it. I understand that Buddhism comes into it, but IMHO, human lives should take preference over animals' lives. And reading further into the article:- "Another family member said the mother of the injured baby was "devastated". They added the dog and the baby were like "two peas in a pod"." Which only goes to show the unpredictability of these dogs And my "bare bones" post was to initiate some kind of discussion on the subject of dangerous dogs, with the emphasis being mainly on the (XL) Bully/Pit Bull breeds.

A 76-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. They both remain in custody while enquiries continue, police added. The dog was seized and destroyed. Source - BBC News 12 Dec 2024 BBC News, South East•@Chris_Fuller11

"A 76-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. They both remain in custody while enquiries continue, police added. The dog was seized and destroyed." Taken from a UK newspaper today. The dog in question (an XL Bully) attacked a baby, who is in serious condition in hospital. No question about finding a new owner for the dog, no question about the new owner taking the dog to the local church to apologise - just arrest the owners who will probably have to face charges in court, and immediately put the dog down - job done!

Indian tourist targeted in daring Pattaya necklace snatch
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
"The name of the Thai city of Pattaya comes from the phrase "Thap Phraya", which means "army of the Phraya". The name commemorates the surrender of Nai Klom's army to Phraya Tak (later King Taksin the Great) in 1767. The armies confronted each other in the area that would become known as PattayaThe name was later changed to "Phatthaya", which means "the wind blowing from the southwest to the northeast at the beginning of the rainy season". It was then simplified to the easier-to-pronounce name "Pattaya"." Nothing particularly awe inspiring about that - well not to warrant "have some respect" 🙂 -
Indian tourist targeted in daring Pattaya necklace snatch

"The daring heist has sent shockwaves through the city." Wallocks! It's a regular occurrence in the "Family Friendly" resort - the only thing that's different is that the perpetrators of the crime were not lady boys - that's what's maybe shocked so many people. -

Thailand police crackdown on pornographic content production
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"British man among foreigners arrested in porn production crackdown;" Why do they have to pick out one nationality in particular? The headline could just as easily have said "Foreigners arrested in ..........." No wonder we Brits get a bad reputation - and don't give me the usual "Well, the way a lot of you carry on............." etc etc -

"She revealed that he suffered from depression and bipolar disorder and often displayed violent behaviour when not taking his medication. Recently, he had shown signs of distress, yelling and arguing with his wife. In the days leading up to the incident, Bruno’s behavior became increasingly erratic. On the morning of the fire, his wife and children fled to the security booth at the housing estate, leaving him alone in the house." Another great advert for the "family friendly resort".😦

Stray Dogs Attack Tourists Daily on Koh Muk
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
"Residents are urging authorities to relocate stray dogs off the island to restore safety and protect its tourism-dependent economy." Yes - relocate them to a nearby country where I am sure they will be greatly appreciated, and enjoyed even more so at meal times. At least they will have served a purpose! -

Grounded: Thai AirAsia denies ticket fraud, blames airline app
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"The application kept buffering for several minutes during the payment process,....." I had a similar experience with Air Asia a few years ago when booking a ticket online - after a bit of "buffering" the system eventually said that my card had been denied. I checked with my bank and there was no problem with the card. I tried again and it was accepted, but the original booking payment had been taken, although I was told that my card had been denied. So I had two bookings - in my name for the same flight, but trying to get a refund from Air Asia was like trying to pull out a tooth with a pair of tweezers! After a few attempts direct with Air Asia's Office, I was told that as I booked online, I had to claim online, and after constant "buffering" I had to give up in the end and lost my money - not a lot as it was a one way domestic flight, but (a) it's the principle, and (b) it makes you wary of booking online with Air Asia! -

Big falang lottery winners in Thailand?

I think the point of the other Club members is understandable - their money has gone into the Snowball and some visitor who has never played in the Club before comes along and wins it! OK - sore losers maybe, but the Club was at fault for selling him the ticket to play in the first place if he wasn't allowed to win!!! P.S. I've never heard of "Indian givers"??? , but I have heard of an Indian takeaway!
