  1. "according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)." Wow! Must be right then, if it's been announced by the "Hub of Positive Stats"
  2. Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pueak-am, Commanding Officer of the Tourist Police Bureau, has instructed a stricter oversight of foreign nationals and workers, particularly those involved in unlawful activities. Am I reading that right?
  3. Thought it was only the tourists from India that were dumb enough to flaunt their expensive jewellery - usually in the vicinity of ladyboys in Pattaya. Come to think of it, I haven't heard of any such incidents for a while - insurance companies welching on their policies, perhaps?
  4. But it's all about the baht! They can't bear to be seen as ignoring The Golden Goose, but then whinge because the Goose overdelivers !
  5. ".....to boost tourism in Southeast Asia. Despite the economic benefits of increased tourist numbers, concerns about feasibility, overtourism ........." Sorry, I don't understand - first they want to boost tourism (as always) and then they are complaining about overtourism!!!
  6. Yes, because any protests etc by Thais are quickly nipped in the bud by the thought of the muzzle of a tank being aimed at them. Maybe a "Guy Fawkes" type reeanaction could be in order? 🙂
  7. What's wrong with a quick phone call to let someone know that you are safe and well - especially in the strange circumstances of this situation,
  8. What a thoughtless insensitive wally!
  9. You need to get out and about more!
  10. I think you need to realise that these days it is not uncommon for couples to take separate holidays!
  11. However, just days into his trip, he phoned his girlfriend on July 26, announcing his early return. That call was the last anyone heard from him. "According to The Lincolnite, Robinson, who spends much of his time in Boston, Lincolnshire, UK, ......." "Concern escalated dramatically when Simon’s phone was switched off after a call to his girlfriend, who lives in Boston. " I think it's fair to assume that as his girlfriend lives in Boston, and Robinson spends much of his time in Boston, Lincs., that the Boston being talked about is not in America! His "notices" are saying that he is 6' 2" because he is British, and in Britain people measure themselves in feet and inches! (But perhaps it would have been appropriate to put his height in cm in brackets beside it.)
  12. Your needs are simple then! My immediate need is also simple - in the shape of a 🍷!
  13. I realised that, but thanks for your interest!
  14. I heard a suggestion that Immigration don't want you to pay 1900 baht for an annual extension, because they get "nowt out of it". They prefer you to pay app 15K to an agent as they get a share of that for "services rendered". And no, I do not have any proof of this, or a link - I'm "just sayin'"! 🙂
  15. Totally expected comment - same as yours about Soi Cowboy. Probably a few similar ones on their way 😞
  16. My phone "pings" every day too! I play an online game called Quiz Planet and it pings me to let me know that my opponent has taken his/her turn and it's my turn to play!
  17. "According to the Bangkok Post, a trace of Simon's mobile phone signal confirmed he was in Bangkok just five minutes before he was expected to reach the airport." Not leaving much time to get to the airport, then?
  18. "First hand experience of different immigration fiefdoms." It's about time that every Immigration had a universal "hymnbook", so that they all applied the same rules. It's bad enough that they change the rules as often as I change my tee shirt, but when different IO's in the same Immigration Office have different interpretations of the rules, something needs to be done to rectify the situation, instead of an IO being able to say (and I have actually heard this said) :- "Never mind the "Rulebook", I make the rules here!"
  19. "Pattaya rebranding as family-friendly destination to boost tourism" Was that headline copied and pasted from a previous article? I am sure I saw it earlier in the year - and late last year - and early last year and .....! 😁 P.S. :- 🤣🤣🤣
  20. "As with the import duties absolutely nothing to do with Prayuth, that is who the OP is about." "And what have you had to pay more tax on ? do tell." You asked, I believe?
  21. VAT is Value Added *** so everything you pay VAT on is ***ed. Increases in Import *** and Duties will probably account for a fair proportion of the increases we are seeing on the shelves of Imported goods. And what happened to the reduction in *** and Duties on Imported alcohol? That was few months ago and I see no reduction in prices of wine or spirits on the shelves?
  22. Thank you, but it was a question for Brainthainess who didn't seem to know! 🙂
  23. What does VAT stand for?
  24. I didn't like Prayuth at the time he was PM - he had a few failings. For instance, he lost his temper frequently when asked the "wrong" questions by reporters, his "Bringing Happiness back to the people" broadcasts were a joke, and the way he got there in the first place was unlawful, and put in place questionable amendments to the constitution (Senators "recruited" from the Army?). But he was better than the present "puppet", and Anutin as PM would be a disaster for farangs and the country alike.
