  1. I doubt he's had a change of heart...just saying things to look good on the "international" stage

He said that all speaking should be candid so as to allow the public to make their own decisions.

  2. Proof of residence is a bit of a misnomer...really what they want to know is an address where you are residing...can be a hotel, condo whatever

you can get this proof from your local immigration office, your embassy and maybe ( if very lucky ) friendly police station.

Pattaya DLT will ( not heard any reports to the contrary ) issue " temporary" licences to "tourists"

  3. If its right next door he could well be in a "null" zone depending on how the antenna is configured.

luudee there most probably is some sort of law and planning consent required to put up a cell phone transmitter

but it would seem like they already got permission... maybe make some enquiries at Pattaya City Hall.

if all else fails and you are worried about RF radiation you can make a Faraday cage with fine wire mesh like they use to stop mosquitoes on windows and doors

ohh and don't forget the tinfoil hat tongue.pnglaugh.png

  4. As far as I'm aware its been the case for a long time that you can get a "temporary" 1 year licence ( recently extended to 2 year ) on a tourist visa

but to get a 5 year ( full ) licence after holding the temporary licence for a year requires a "long stay visa" no long stay visa they will give you another "temporary" licence.

  5. Ok so I will answer myself tongue.png

After 3 different aerials, 2 runs of RG6 coaxial cable and going to the highest point on the roof I was finally able to get digital terrestrial TV signals

from what would appear ( from the frequencies ) to be both Bangkok and Pattaya transmitters.

    homemade 600 MHz yagi
    SIS cheapo from Amorn
Home made and SIS antenna both have about the same performance and could pull in signals from Bangkok and Pattaya with a short cable while testing on the roof.

but did not enough gain to overcome the long coax run to the TV
no idea where to get a mast head amplifier.
So got the biggest antenna they had in Amorn Samart D15E 550 baht
    and using the website here
provides the pointing direction and frequencies

    5 MUX's from Bangkok
    on CH 26 @ 514 MHz
    CH 36 @ 594 Mhz
    Ch 40 @ 626 Mhz
    Ch 44 @ 658 Mhz
    Ch 52 @ 722 Mhz
but only 2 MUX's from the Pattaya transmitter on
    CH 53 @ 730 Mhz
    Ch 56 @ 754 Mhz
Anyone else have better luck with the Pattaya transmitter ?
  6. BeefSlapper

I took a bit of a guess as to exact location from your google map

they recommend the Rayong transmitter even though the Pattaya one is closer.

with your indoor antenna at 56KM's to Rayong IMHO not a chance of a signal

you need a large outdoor antenna like this. 550 baht from Amorn

  7. My new tv supports dvb-t2 out of the box. I have bought an antenna and a booster and it worked perfectly upon first setup. Then ch7 (my gf's favourite channel) fell away and even I changed the position of the antenna a thousand times, it refuses to come back upon re-tuning. Now use Ilikehd free Thai tv which is flaky at best. It seems at 299 baht per month the true vision package is best.

sniffdog can you please tell me about the "booster" you bought, make, model ,price and where you bought it.

The problem of CH7 disappearing could be due to water getting into the Coax or some local interference, fluorescent lights and other electronics can cause problems too, have you tried changing the cable for some more expensive stuff ?

Also there are certain whether conditions ( more prevalent in the tropics ? ) that can cause the terrestrial signal to fluctuate wildly

maybe when you got CH7 you where pointing at a very distant transmitter during a "lift" period where signals can travel for hundreds of kilometres but normally only travel a 20 -60 Kms try the transmitter locating website ( posted below ) to see if you are pointing to the nearest one.

BeefSlaper you don't say where your gf parents house is located in the country

DVB-T2 is still being rolled out not all locations are covered yet but you can check on this website.

    http://dtvservicearea.nbtc.go.th/webpeople/

zoom the map to your location then click on the blue white teardrop icon on the top right of the page then click onto your precise location on the map and it should show you details of the nearest transmitter with compass bearing and exact transmitter location as well as the all important frequencies.

C band needs a big dish not good at certain locations ( on a condo balcony ) KU band can use smaller dishes but is badly affected by the rain

IPTV needs a good internet connection and some hunting around to find a cheep/free and or reliable provider of streamed content.

  8. Grout is readily available at most building stores

To do it properly though you need to remove the old grout first which is a bit of a pain, then as stated previously the mould will come back

unless you keep on top of it with regular bleach washes.

I use the ordinary everyday bleach sold in the supermarket called "Haiter"

directly applied to an old scotch-pad and yes you need to ventilate use a floor fan to force fresh air into the bathroom

and some rubber gloves to protect your hands...gas mask err yes maybe but I'd say over the top

  9. I like to take my car out of D "drive" when I'm stuck in long traffic jams and put it into "N" and apply the handbrake. I just feel it's not doing my box too much good having it in D with my foot on the brake for long periods.

Almost always, ( sods law ) as soon as I put the car in "N" and apply the handbrake the car in front moves forward 10-20 meters or the light goes green and everyone's off to a racing start followed half a second later buy hard braking to let the red light jumpers through.

Mostly now I sit with foot on brake with D engaged, sometimes if the right foot gets a bit tired I'll pull the handbrake and hover my left foot over the brake pedal just in case.
