  1. Yup, low voltage is all too common an issue.

Is there some sort of low cost equipment that can automatically sense low voltage (say anything under 150 volts) and isolate the house until mains voltage returns to a more normal level ?

  2. The viruses and bacteria in rain are quite strong early in the season: getting caught in the rain it's very likely to catch a cold, IMO ( I know there are deniers).

I used to laugh at Thai people when they told me that..................not anymore wai.gif

If there are viruses and bacteria in the environment why are they only ( or more so ) contagious when it rains ?

The dust storms that kick up just before the rain might be carrying lots of nasties into eyes and nose maybe ?

Why do Thai people with a cold go to the doctor and return with a bag full of antibiotics insisting they will cure their cold ?

  3. I doubt he's had a change of heart...just saying things to look good on the "international" stage

He said that all speaking should be candid so as to allow the public to make their own decisions.

  4. Proof of residence is a bit of a misnomer...really what they want to know is an address where you are residing...can be a hotel, condo whatever

you can get this proof from your local immigration office, your embassy and maybe ( if very lucky ) friendly police station.

Pattaya DLT will ( not heard any reports to the contrary ) issue " temporary" licences to "tourists"

  5. If its right next door he could well be in a "null" zone depending on how the antenna is configured.

luudee there most probably is some sort of law and planning consent required to put up a cell phone transmitter

but it would seem like they already got permission... maybe make some enquiries at Pattaya City Hall.

if all else fails and you are worried about RF radiation you can make a Faraday cage with fine wire mesh like they use to stop mosquitoes on windows and doors

ohh and don't forget the tinfoil hat tongue.pnglaugh.png

  6. As far as I'm aware its been the case for a long time that you can get a "temporary" 1 year licence ( recently extended to 2 year ) on a tourist visa

but to get a 5 year ( full ) licence after holding the temporary licence for a year requires a "long stay visa" no long stay visa they will give you another "temporary" licence.

  7. Ok so I will answer myself tongue.png

After 3 different aerials, 2 runs of RG6 coaxial cable and going to the highest point on the roof I was finally able to get digital terrestrial TV signals

from what would appear ( from the frequencies ) to be both Bangkok and Pattaya transmitters.

    homemade 600 MHz yagi
    SIS cheapo from Amorn
Home made and SIS antenna both have about the same performance and could pull in signals from Bangkok and Pattaya with a short cable while testing on the roof.

but did not enough gain to overcome the long coax run to the TV
no idea where to get a mast head amplifier.
So got the biggest antenna they had in Amorn Samart D15E 550 baht
    and using the website here
provides the pointing direction and frequencies

    5 MUX's from Bangkok
    on CH 26 @ 514 MHz
    CH 36 @ 594 Mhz
    Ch 40 @ 626 Mhz
    Ch 44 @ 658 Mhz
    Ch 52 @ 722 Mhz
but only 2 MUX's from the Pattaya transmitter on
    CH 53 @ 730 Mhz
    Ch 56 @ 754 Mhz
Anyone else have better luck with the Pattaya transmitter ?
