Well folks, it would appear that this not just a rumour. (I wish the O/P had been a little clearer!) From the Pattaya Mail: 'Well-connected and popular agencies, such as Tik Tok based in Jomtien, have advised on social media that they will be unable to assist with opening bank accounts for foreign customers until further notice'. (Link to the full article below) https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/news/foreign-applicants-for-thai-bank-accounts-facing-new-crackdown-490881 Please don't have a go at me, I'm just the messenger with no vested interest in this topic.

Just to make a point on that Sheryl, the BBC have run a couple of series' called 'reported missing'. Many of the subjects that they have had to make searches for were dementia suffers who had simply wandered away from home, maybe to take a walk in the park or something and couldn't find their way home again. Some ended up many miles away from their starting point! My own mother was in a care home, which was exclusively for dementia sufferers. On a cold winter's night she got out of bed, went out through a fire door, (which for safety reasons could not be locked of course) and was found, frozen to death in the snow the following morning. So I've had a particular interest in this issue. Sending a dementia sufferer half way round the world, escorted or not, without very solid action plan at the other end is just of the question.

So he's not an imminent professor then, he's an eminent professor. 😉 -

He's an imminent professor is he? Perhaps he'd better hold fire until he's qualified! -

Go visit Watsons and check out their own brand '5 System Razor'. Similar to Gillette, but cheaper. They often 2 for 1 sales as well. I've been using them for a few years now. https://www.watsons.co.th/en/watsons-men-5-system-razor-1-handle-2-cartridges./p/BP_307927

That's what it says on the tin. But I very much doubt whether these issues will be a hinderance when two sensible people. one from the UK consular service and one a ranking immigration officer sit down and have a chat about this serious humanitarian situation. I shall interested to hear what the outcome is of this distressing case.

Don't Drink and Drive: Police Crack Down on DUI Near Bars
Moonlover replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
It DOES apply in the UK. You can only refuse if you have a genuine physical or mental condition stopping you from giving a sample. (in which case you probably shouldn't be driving anyway) -
Thailand May Ease Overseas Income Tax Rules Amid Global Changes

They would say that wouldn't they. They fear that the 'golden goose' is going to be killed off before it even start to lay eggs! -
And then what? Welcomed with open arms by his 86 year old sister and/or his 83 year old niece? It's a ludicrous idea. This is a 'must do' @Furioso and quickly. You mentioned that his passport expires soon. Is this idea of getting him on a plane some scatter brained idea by his pals to get him out of the country before it does so? This case must be brought to the attention of the embassy. They will probably need some evidence regarding his medical/mental condition. They should be able to bring this case before the immigration bureau to have a temporary (at least) extension of stay on medical/humanitarian grounds, whilst this whole sorry mess is sorted out. And then I suggest that the idea of getting him into a care home here in Thailand be looked into.

From my own perspective, having been away from the UK for over 20 years and being almost 80, the thought of being sent back there, in my dotage horrifies me! There has to be a better solution than sticking this poor old guy on a Heathrow bound flight to a totally uncertain future. And there is one. Watch the video in the attached link. This solution has to be a better way. https://www.aljazeera.com/program/101-east/2020/5/1/thailands-last-resort

Visit to tax office, Koh Samui,(today)
Moonlover replied to CFCol's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I'd ascertained that quite a long time ago Sheryl, but it's really good to read that it came out of the mouth of a senior TRD official. It's my assertion now that those that are quite sure that they are NOT liable for tax in Thailand to keep well away from the revenue offices. I see absolutely no point in pointing oneself in the spotlight unnecessarily. But keep a good record of ones income, just in case. -
Thailand Slips in Global Corruption Ranking for 2024
Moonlover replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What are you on about? If one wants a marriage extension and does not have 400k to hand, then he uses the income method. 40k per month remitted from abroad. I've been doing it for years. All perfectly legitimate and no corruption involved at all. -

Perfect! I've been waiting for a report like this to come along which lays it out so clearly. I'm in more or less the same situation as you @CFCol with my government service pension (military) making up the bulk of my total income. The residue is well below my total allowances (I have a non working Thai so I get an extra 60k. I'd actually worked this out quite some time ago and very pleased that you have had confirmation of that. Great report. Thanks a lot. I shall award myself an extra whisky tonight and sleep well. -
Pattaya Prepares for Silent Night: Alcohol Ban Hits Tourists
Moonlover replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Our village shop (singular) closes because the couple that run it prefer to go off and make merit themselves and I fully respect that. I've never heard or read anywhere that Thais are not allowed to drink on religious days. The ban is on selling it, not drinking it. My wife, who enjoys a tifle herself has just confirmed that! I have no sympathy for tourists or expats who can't accept the rules of the country they are visiting or live in. -
Thailand Tops LGBTQ Tourism; Spending Soars by 38%
Moonlover replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
On the other hand Thailand can provide a safe haven for the LGBT community from those same countries. And they do exist, despite the harsh regimes that they live in. And wouldn't they be more welcome than clowns that we so often read about on the streets of Pattaya and Phuket? They certainly wouldn't behave in the same unruly manner. -

I'll certainly vouch for that. My wife' daughter is a (now open) lesbian and we have had some great times amongst the LGBTQ community in Udon Thani where she has most of her friends. -
