I'd rather sue for damages than be charged with murder! -
Russian Tourist Killed, Two Injured in Pattaya Big Bike Crash
Moonlover replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
I agree with you. I prefer NOT to use pedestrian crossings at all. They can so easily give one a false sense of security. The closest I came to being hit on one was when I was crossing a dual carriageway. I'd made it across the first half ok, but then I was almost struck by a motorcycle going in the wrong direction! I was, of course carefully watching for traffic coming from my left! In Thailand, always expect the unexpected. -

And why not? A bull brings in a good deal of income from breeding. -
Drunk Foreign Driver Kills Bull in Chaiyaphum Crash

But the owner didn't leave it to walk around did he. He was with the animal and was himself nearly hit by the pick up. But you are right though. I live in rural Issan and one does have to exercise an abundance of caution when driving around here. I ride a motorcycle and it won't be just the bull that suffered if I hit one! -
Thailand Air Force Chooses Gripen Jets Over F-16s for Better Benefits
Moonlover replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Here's a short but informative for those have an interest these matters. It's many years since I cozied up to a fighter jet, but I like to keep myself informed. https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=is+the+saab+gripen+any+good&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:707d6b6c,vid:TdjGh5DgVm8,st:0 -
Agreed. Our village Phu Yai Ban (who also happens to be my wife's nephew) signs mine. No stamp but never been a problem.

Yes there is indeed. However on this page from the Gov.uk website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/life-certificate-form it says: 'Do not send us this form unless we have asked you to'. Confusing or what? Now if they were to send us an email asking us to complete a LC that would close the loop wouldn't it.

I read on another website, which I cannot find now, that DWP were loosing something in the order of 50m per year to overseas pensioners whose deaths had not been reported to them.
-
DWP do not need to know how to go about it. They simply need to out-source the verification process to a company such as My Pension ID and they'll do it for them, digitally. It would probably same them millions of pounds each year in preventing pensions being paid out to dead people! Many companies and local governments already use this process. It takes me just 5 minutes using a mobile app to confirm to BAE SYSTEMS that I'm still alive. https://mypensionid.co.uk/personal/
-
I've never bothered with the app as their web site is extremely good. You're right though. You're paid in Britain so you're taxed in Britain. There's no escape! 😞 But I always look on bright side. At least they're still prepared to pay out our pensions no matter where we are in the world. Some countries won't even do that!
-
Your wish might just be their command! ‘Life certificates’ sent to UK pensioners living abroad, including in France, could be moved online'. Many providers already do have on-line life confirmation. DWP are behind the times. https://www.connexionfrance.com/news/proof-of-life-certificates-may-go-online-for-uk-pensioners-in-france/104888

I just completed this quiz. My Score 40/100 My Time 267 seconds

Thanks, that's quite an interesting article that covers quite a bit more than just eye issues. Worth reading.

If you care to take a look at it, it says 'departure card'. So it stands to reason that it is valid until you depart. They used to request the card number when doing a 90 day report, but they have stopped doing that now so it's possible it may no longer be relevant, but there's no harm in hanging on to it. It doesn't weigh a lot does it.

Where is your evidence regarding Thai wives in the west running off other men? The coroner did not record her death as 'not suspicious'. They recorded an 'open verdict'. The legal way of saying I/we don't know the cause of death. The very fact that Armitage did not report his wife missing to the British police and took off to Thailand is suspicious in its own right and, at the very least he should be treated as a 'person of interest'.

Two Teenage Girls Killed in Collision in Sattahip
Moonlover replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
There was no more than a second between the car becoming visible to the rider and the collision. She would have needed lighting fast reactions to even reach for the brakes never mind apply them. That, not withstanding, this was primarily the car driver's fault. However, one thing stands out. I and many others have spoken out time and again about the dangers of riding motorcycles on the hard shoulder. The rider was 'boxed in' by the car on her right and would have been unable to swerve out of danger, even if she did have more time to react. -
The same thing was often said about Japan in the past wasn't it. China is now considered to be one of the key players in advancing green technology. 'The rapid growth of green technology production in China has helped cut green energy costs worldwide, making sustainable energy solutions more accessible than ever for billions of people' . If they need to nick a bit of knowledge from the west to help them on the way, then more power to them. https://www.weforum.org/stories/2025/01/why-china-matters-to-the-worlds-green-transition/#:~:text=Enterprising innovation, reach carbon neutrality by 2050.

HMRC sent you a life certificate? That's a first! Ok, I'm teasing you, you obviously mean DWP. Next time use registered mail. Just as reliable and a quarter of the cost. Switching to an on line procedure is under discussion by DWP. They are aware that they loose millions of pounds a year paying out pensions to dead folks around the world.

I doubt that it is your air conditioner that is lowering the dust reading by that amount. That's not what they're designed to do. However how high is your apartment above ground level? Pollution levels reduce with height and the readings are taken at or near ground level. That and the fact that you'll be keeping your windows closed probably accounts for the difference,

Royal Navy Submarine Confronts Russian Spy Ship in UK Waters
Moonlover replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Now, now. steady on The very first sentence in the same wiki article that you're quoting from says: SSN is the US Navy hull classification symbol for such vessels. So my statement was not 'utter rubbish'. However as the term has been adopted for us by NATO and other countries I will concede that your use of it was correct. An interesting factoid from that same article is that the UK was the first ever country to use an SSN boat in hostile action, when HMS Conqueror sunk the Belgrano during the Falklands war. Following that engagement, not a single Argentinian naval vessel left port during the entire campaign, which does demonstrate the deterrent value of these subs. Little wonder the Yantar quickly departed UK waters. -
