  1. Either the problem is so small as to be insignificant or they are so incompetent they could not detect their way out of a paper bag, or both.
  2. I would not be surprised to find that the restrictions on licensing hours were inherited from the UK as were many other Thai laws. Afternoon closing was introduced in the UK to discourage factory and agricultural workers from failing to return after lunch, and partly for religious reasons, ie Sunday opening. It was abolished some years ago when alcohol was allowed to be sold 24/7. Time to introduce in Thailand and let market forces and local conditions determine when shops and bar owners choose to open for alcohol sales.
  3. Easy pass is the old tolling method which involves you pre loading your account with cash, they give you a RFID token which you fix to your windscreen and is read at the toll booth. M Flow registers your vehicle number plate and this is read as you pass through the M Flow lane. Which is separate to the cash and Easy Pass lanes. They debit your bank account automatically. You need at least Easy Pass as not all routes have M Flow yet. M Flow is an addition for those not prepared to wait the few seconds to queue for Easy Pass gates, but is not essential. Hope this helps.
  4. Very difficult to prove “knowingly” will depend on him either confessing or credible evidence from a witness that Pita admitted that he knew he was in the wrong.
  5. Started using the Bangkok Bank one after photo at local branch. Problem 1. Asked me to remove glasses before asking me to do range of other activities like smiling. Problem is could not read instructions without glasses. Problem 2. Asked me to remove face covering in spite of being photographed at the bank with my white beard. Eventually had to cover beard with hand to be accepted.
  6. The only way to stop or control it is to have an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) like they had in Hong Kong when it was still a British colony. They employed outsiders seconded from British police forces to break down the corrupt relationships between the police and criminals. This was combined with raising salaries so no one had the excuse of needing corrupt money. Difficult to implement in Thailand as too many pigs with their noses in the trough. A new Government might be able to start the process but over 50% of the army and the police would have to be sacked, thus provoking another coup.
  7. Take photo of licence plate and driver, call taxi bureau and report, or at least say you will and spoil his day. Authorities should deal with this more harshly, have more inspectors and hidden shoppers, and should also raise fares to a living level, they are much too cheap, which is why so many drivers cheat. Or go the whole way and turn them all over to Grab or one of the other ride hailing services. Maybe even have a Govt ride hailing app.
  8. I did mine last month at CW and they asked me to return in exactly 30 days, passport stamped within ten minutes of arrival. Been the same for last 3 years.
  9. Having many years experience dealing with drunks and potheads, give me the potheads any day, always mellow never aggressive unless they have taken something else as well.
  10. Totally agree. The area should be sealed to prevent contamination of evidence by the public trampling all over it and disturbance. If this was anything other than a dog and pony show by the police they would take the evidence gathering seriously.
  11. My wife and her friends contracted in Korat and spread to the rest of the family (me, boys 11 and 7) when she returned home to isolate. All already vaccinated. Much milder than first time, two days in bed, boys hardly missed a beat. I’m certainly not worried about getting it again.
  12. Strange that he and his father’s rank and name are identical in spite of him being only a cadet.
  13. Having longer VOA or visa exempt entries reduces the opportunity for 1900 baht visa extensions. You should realise that the majority of funding for the Immigration Police, in common with other Thai state institutions, comes from the imposition of fees and fines.
  14. In my mum’s home city of Berlin it is common to see people sunbathing naked even in their office lunch breaks around the lakes. Nobody bats an eyelid.
  15. Would be nice to see some action against the motorbike hire places that rent to people without checking driving licences or supplying helmets.
  16. Thailand has many fine surgeons who could repair him locally for far less than £250000. Maybe they can negotiate that with the insurance company.
  17. I would suggest licensing and regulation of door security staff as they do in other countries but they can’t even regulate the police so that’s a waste of time.
  18. They have difficulty doing the basics right. The man in civilian clothes with a lit cigarette leaning over the crashed motorcycle.
  19. No, someone is always at fault. Good road design with more central crash barriers rather than klongs with trees (guaranteed killers) would go a long way towards minimising the effects of the driver(s) at fault.
  20. If this is a tourism tax why is it being levied on retirement and marriage extension/visa holders who don’t have work permits? Really it’s just just another foreigner tax.
  21. No one is entitled to make their own traffic laws. If they are not allowed to drive in a particular direction or on a particular street, the authorities must put up a sign to say so, not rely on a taxi rider to enforce a “rule”. No wonder the Swedes were upset.
  22. If the RTP do nothing here they are criticised, same if they do something. But there does seem to be a concentration of effort on cases where there might be a pot of gold at the end. The money never seems to return to the Government budget, strange. talking of pots of gold, whatever happened about the flying saucer temple or the illegal nightclub that tragically burned down killing all those youngsters?
  23. The funny part is an Inspector being engaged clearly full time running a gambling network, seemingly under the noses of his supervisors, without anyone noticing he wasn’t doing any police work? What are the Generals doing all day for their salaries if they are not checking up on their staff? I know the answers are obvious, but isn’t it time to give the honest cops a go? There are some out there, I know.
