On the bright side, he won't have to worry about having 800k in the bank for his retirement visa.
Yep, but they'll probably let the sick ole ba..std out to do his 90 day clock in, very important that!

Never heard of a shy turtle, Thailand must have a turtle whisperer (thought that you were supposed to leave them alone when hatching....stupid fallang).
Why not, uncle Tuu can talk to frogs as he has shown in the past, a turtle would be a breeze to him!

I ran one of these over once on a back road behind Maya. It was dark and I was going too fast and didn’t see it until the last second. I thought it was a fallen tree and braces for impact, but instead hit it and sort of squished over it and the bump wasn’t that bad.
Immediately I stopped and realized it was a huge snake, then it slithered off. It was big enough to easily kill a human. Told the nearby home owners there the next day and they all laughed about it.
Reminds me of signs i used to see in Australia mid 60s if you see a snake on the road/track slow down go over it and check in rearview mirror to make sure it is still there, apparently they can roll and flick up into the car undercarriage and finish up in the boot of the car, ready to give you a nice surprise next time you open your boot!

Funny how there is never any talk about impounding their bikes, as was the case of the two idiot foreigners doing wheelies a couple of days ago, plus fines and maybe jail time!

I agree with your post Dr.Jack, and Max has my sympathy, but as we all know, a lot depends on the particular Immigration Office you are forced to use. Many make up their own rules and form their own hoops. My local IO is very quiet (for obvious reasons), but better to have a good selection of photos than not enough.
Yes we had a good selection of photos, but what they wanted to see was two outside one with house number visible, and three inside two of which show husband and wife together in different places plus one family shot (i should have clarified this my opener), yes completely ridiculous as another poster stated, and certainly feel like throwing a "wobbler" but you got got to remember these people hold your rights to living in staying in LOS,
Went back today with the necessary extra two pics and all OK or that is under consideration or whatever they call it, in Bangkok!
The amount of paperwork in Thailand in this day and and age involved in these simple little events never ceases to amaze me, duplicates of everything, pictures, maps, etc. seems like a hundred signatures required, OK rant over!

Went to Jom Chien today to get marriage visa extension, had everything ready as in previous 4 years, i think the the big joke must have been at work here, insisting now on the five pictures required two outside house one showing house number (we had one outside) and three inside house in different places, but the main difference was in past years they have been adamant that a witness was required for every extension, this time our witness who was with us, was told not required!
We were rejected on account of the two missing pictures one inside and and one more interior, I thought this might help somebody going for an extention at Jom Chien IO as a reason for posting, as rounding up a witness can be a bit of a hassle, i would imagine a witness would still be needed for first extension though!

Penny would have been a more obvious name change. Have to agree the name Pinit was a bit awkward though, as it's how most Thais would pronounce "penis".
You mean as in Prick?

ok. I only carry my passport when I travel within Thailand. In other words, I am spending the night away from home.
I have a copy of my passport in my scooter and photos on phone. Thailand drivers license and motorcycle license with me all the time.
and 40 condoms, 20 hits of Viagra, cut in half of course, 10 gold coins, a .45 automatic and a bar of chocolate.
and in five years never asked except at hotels. and my drivers license was OK except in big Bangkok hotels and resorts.
Yes i carry the same plus i fitted an air-bag under the seat slightest knock it fires you straight up and out of harms way, have'nt really tried it out yet though!????

Think about it.....They grew up sitting in the floor in school & at home....They go to the temple, they sit in the floor for the service then eat clustered around in groups sitting on the floor.....They were raised that way.....
My wife is uni educated, worked in management for a large international corporation for 17 years.....We travel to the states a few months a year & never a miss cue.....
We have a nice formal dining room that has a nice teak table we bought, seats 12 = never used.....
On weekends, we (4) usually eat a breakfast together at the kitchen table - but - every night they have dinner in front of the TV watching some inane Thai program.....
There are 4 easy chairs & a coffee table in that room; but they move the coffee table out of the way, plop down on the floor in the middle of the easy chairs with their food & dishes just as happy as can be.....
I don't think there anything unusual about sitting on the floor to eat, my wife and her family are middle class with a couple of doctors, lawyer and teachers, here in Sattahip all preferably as stated above will sit on the floor in a circle given the chance, and most are well travelled to western countries, not so the men i might add!

I'm not struggling but don't have 400,000 in a Thai bank account at the moment. I will when the seasoning's due. Perhaps you should have said "Doesn't have 400,000 baht equivalent in accounts here and abroad" or something similar. So many "clever dicky" posts which are no use to anyone.
Mind you he did'nt follow it up with you should go home, which is the norm for these type of posters!

If Uncle Tuu had any balls he would just fire a round of art.44 at this, and override all the bs. and ship him back to OZ, i'm pretty sure the Thais would admire him for that (or at least i think they would)

No, just 'avin a giraffe.
With all due respect avin a "giraffe" is far too obvious and is not London rhyming slang, it's always two words then they would use the word that does'nt rhyme such as "Butchers Hook" ie take a butchers (look) at this, "Barnet Fair" Barnet (hair) etc. avin a laugh is Bubble as in Bubble bath, Thief as in this case is a "Tea Leaf" or"a Tea" all learned from my old East End mum years ago!
OK Lesson over as you were!

16 hours ago, Sheryl said:Good idea in theory but... unfortunately, if the requirement for the new 10 year O-A visa is any indication, any requirement they would make for health insurance would on the one hand not be adequate to enable people to pay their hospital bills in case of major illness/accident while on the other hand including unnecessary OPD cover, causing the premium to be 25 - 50% higher than it should be for the overall (very low) level of cover. An almost worthless and needlessly expensive policy that would still leave you needing additional cover.
It is a genuine problem but believe me, you do not want this government making up a health insurance clause. They simply do not take the time to research and figure out what sort of cover is needed to avert the problems that frequently arise. Rather they appear to be unduly influenced by local insurance companies and to design requirements tailored to local products that are poorly designed.
And then there is the problem o that many people of retirement have significant pre-existing conditions that would either make them uninsurable or result in significant exclusions (leaving them in essence still uninsured except for accidents).
there are things the government could set up and require that would actually make sense but that is nto likely to be what emerges fin any mandatory health insurance requirement.
Yes, it get's tedious when posters like MS state everyone should get health insurance sounding so simple a remedy but try getting health insurance at eighty years old, it will cost an arm and a leg if you can get it, throw in existing problems not covered and it would be virtually worthless, his answer would be i assume, you obviously can't afford to live here then you should go home!

yellow book was very easy, just had to fill out the forms provided and show proof of where I lived, my wife was the proof, Just make sure you have several months left on your visa, there was something my wife said about being here over 5 years as well but it saves having to get a coa and has a few other benefits for me as well
I don't think the 5 years is relevant, i got mine about two years ago, and am only on my fifth extension on March 2nd this year, this is in Sattahip so might vary elsewhere!

I have one of those as well. It's a reciprocal agreement between India & the US, as Indians are issued USA tourist visas for 10 years. Of course, Thais also get 10 year USA tourist visas, but I suppose it is far too logical and straightforward for the powers that be in Thailand to make it reciprocal for Americans.
But it's the Thai way of keeping you in your place as a non-immigrant, Good Lord man are you, a lowly fallang, expecting a Visa ie. upgrading your status, no chance! (sarc.before Chomper get's confused again)
