Changing from work permit to retirement extension
No embassy involved. The first time that you apply for the retirement extension, based on 800K in the bank, you will be asked to show "Credit Advice" statements (they show the details of a bank transfer) from Bangkok Bank demonstrating that the funds arrived in Thailand from a bank outside Thailand - expected to be your home country. In my case, they demanded a Credit Advice statement from the originating bank, as well as Bangkok Bank, which is ridiculous, since the Bangkok Bank Credit Advice showed the originating bank. I am sure that these demands fluctuate, but as of one month ago, this is what Chaeng Watthana was requesting.

Changing from work permit to retirement extension
I just did exactly the same as you. Beware of one item. The 800K in the bank MUST be shown to come from outside Thailand. Like you, I had saved the 800K from work. I was required to move the money to the US, then back to Thailand. I was offered a "work around" for this, but it cost 15,000 THB, which was more than I would lose on the exchange. The other thing that the IO made difficult was my lease. They were very picky about that, and forced me to provide the blue book of the owner, deed to the property, as well as their Thai ID.

how much money is required in the bank account to obtain a Thai visa for the parent of a Thai child
Here is a topic that Ubonjoe replied to that will help you: Also, since you are 50 years old, I would seriously consider the retirement extension, if you have the 800k to put in the bank. The retirement extension will be simpler overall, from my experience listening to friends do the parental extension.

@French mate points out a critical detail! Make sure you have a proper attorney who is working for you!

If you don't like it Leave ! Root canal
The price quoted to you in Australia is not really that outrageous -- for Australia. Thailand does provide excellent dentistry at a lower price. However, remember that there are a few charlatans out there. So if you have the work performed in Thailand, be sure to use a reputable dentist.

Why do I pay 700 Baht to 3BB when I can use mobile internet for 2000 Baht/year?
Where did you obtain this setup?

Is it possible to have Wi-Fi and Ethernet (fiber) on same computer?
Cool. But how do you manage the routing over the different interfaces? I always thought you had to deal with the OS routing tables, which is not in the UI that I see.

Why do I pay 700 Baht to 3BB when I can use mobile internet for 2000 Baht/year?
I am using my phone for Internet now, as I wait for AIS to install in my new place. I hit the monthly data limit in 2 days. Had to pay 159 THB to extend my limit. I believe you will find the data limit is the issue.

Linux for sure. On MacOS, I am not sure, even though I use it everyday. Never had that setup. Windows, I do not know. The issue is one of routing inside the computer. The OS must know which network to use for what communications. On Linux, this requires dealing with the OS routing tables. It is not for the faint of heart.

Changing from Non O Retirement to non O Marriage
I think this is the simplest answer. You have sufficient monthly deposits to qualify for the marriage extension (always over 45K) using the income method, but I would keep the 400K in the bank as a backup method, until your income method is confirmed.

Paying for Thai goods and services from a foreign account to reduce “income-looking” bank transfers
I question if the transaction would count as "bringing money into Thailand". The transaction you are describing is a loan, not an income, which is what Thailand is taxing. In reality, money was handing to the Thai merchant by your bank. not by you. And when you pay off that credit card with your home currency, that transaction does not get involved with Thailand. Maybe someone knows better than me, and can clarify this point. I did not read the details of the recent excellent post I saw, which may have answered this, so you might wish to consult that:

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO PERSONAL INCOME TAX IN THAILAND
The only money I bring into Thailand will be my social security. So it is simple for me. If you are bringing in other money, you will likely have to do the double tax agreement stuff to offset any potential Thailand tax with the taxes you paid to the US Treasury. I suspect I will still be required to file a return to show the social security and claim that I owe nothing. PITA, but what can you do?

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO PERSONAL INCOME TAX IN THAILAND
Honestly, I cannot answer that question. Since the income is not subject to tax, that would suggest you do not need to file. However, since it is over the minimum income required to file, and it will register money transfers to Thailand (mine is deposited directly), then it might require the filing stating "no tax due". The only benefit to having to file, is if you are parking 800K like I do, it gives you the opportunity to reclaim the interest withheld by the bank. Not a lot of money, but if the filing is mandatory, then I will collect to offset the "expense" of producing the filing.

As I just started my US social security, this is the best news I have received in a long time. I really feel for UK pensioners here. You guys just keep getting punched in the gut - frozen pensions, exchange rate, now this tax.

What is wrong with Thai women (on dating websites) in 2024
Those sites are the best venue for gold diggers, and, thus, they are full of them. The girls you actually want to meet are not hanging out there in any real quantity. Have met a couple of good ones over the years, but they are quite rare.
