Saw an add yesterday in one of my media streams from a place I used to frequent in California, Folsom. Taco Loco, front end of house $25 to $40 an hour........if you worked 40 hours a week you would make 4k a month before taxes and tips at rhe low end, 6k at the top..... Now you know why so many want to go to the US...unfortunately they don't realize the actual cost of living such as rent etc...

It's as cheap as it ever was, just need to understand the location and how to play the game.....

He fails to understand that what we do post is correct, he just shows a negativity towards what is posted much of the time. He may respond and I hope he does, because reality for the Karen people is daily attacks from the Myanmar military as they ramp up their attacks on what they call insurgents. The Myanmar Government has burned down many villages as well as indiscriminately killing civilians. They have tried there best to shut down the internet in the country so as to not let much of the information get out from the country. As an Ethnic Karen my GF has relatives throughout Myanmar who have tried to escape the brutality. Myanmar is truly a country with a civil war on it's hands. I wonder how the expats in Mandalay, Yangon and other locales are doing. I lost contact with a friend many months ago who lived just over the border from Mae Sot.

One has to wonder how much more this country can take on the lower end of the spectrum with the average daily worker. We just went to our favorite fried chicken Som tam seller, and he notified us upon our arrival that he was sorry he had to raise prices by 10 baht across the board. So lets just say that for a family of 2 it would appear that the daily increase would be around an additional 40 baht. Add that up and many folks will be eating less as the daily wage is sinking below what would keep up with inflation as wages are always the last to increase. Folks will be borrowing if they can, and if not they will be selling off any items they may have which they deem non necessary. I have noticed the sidewalks having more folks selling second hand items here in BKK, and many more out panhandling. My heart breaks to see this happen. I am glad that we still help the families we adopted at the beginning of the covid outbreak and shutdowns.

Just watched a news video of the PM giving his statements. In the news piece they showed the school nearby that had also taken some rounds and the children, many of them running for cover. Life as a fly by night rider is tough enough and there is no way they can be paid the same unless Grab and the other companies are registered with the DLT and then fall under the laws that cover transport and commerce. The company itself is getting very rich on the backs of these riders. It should not be the riders responsibility all unto themselves.

My belief is they were targeted because they also provide Moto Taxi, and regular transport services. I have used grab in the past for paperwork delivery around Bangkok as it is faster then going into Kerry or J&T and mailing. I use the app, hail a rider for the delivery, within 30 minutes they arrive, pick up the package and then deliver it, they are then paid. I do tip them on the App. The issue with Grab is they are not covered by any type of insurance like a regular Moto Taxi or Thai Post is. From what I understand the DLT registration gives them some security, but it costs, and then Grab itself should be paying this for their employee's upon hiring them. They could still have a regular plate on the bike but also have another type of registration sticker, such as a PUC or MCC number permit like they do in the US. That's just my take on it. I know the wages are an issue, and why I try to give them a tip when they make deliveries.

Bank transfer from the US went in with no issues on yesterdays time. Sent from the US just after midnight by 9 am in the bank. I do not use the faster service of Wise becuase of the higher fees, my bank in the US only charges me 25 USD for a wire transfer, and K-Bank only takes a max of 800 Thb. so the total comes to less than the almost 70 USD wise would charge me. Luckily I only send major amounts every 6 months and then if a special need arises transfer some more during the month. Never have I had a problem with K-Bank.
