  1. You were right ðŸĪŠ Rose to 44.1 yesterday but by the time I'd had my morning coffees and checked, it had gone down to 43.8. Woke up about an hour ago as couldn't sleep so thought I'd take a peek. Nailed it at 44.2 or almost a cool 22k THB 😂
  2. Just bring it in your carry-on. If necessary, buy a longer backpack...
  3. To elaborate, I was worried that my UK address details would be passed to SCB during the domestic side of the transfer and this wouldn't tally with whatever Thai address they have on file.
  4. Cheers. I was just worried it might screw things up on the Thai domestic transfer side.
  5. Just a quickie, not really worth starting a new thread. 🙂 I'm planning to transfer 500 GBP from my UK account to my SCB account in Thailand. When I added my SCB account as a recipient, I selected 'This is my account' and it now shows my UK address under the recipient account details. Can I just leave it as it is or will it cause a problem? I can't see a way to change it and can't for the life of me remember the address I opened the account with. ðŸĪ”
  6. So the USD, and in turn the THB, will strengthen tomorrow? Just wondering because I need to change / transfer some GBP this week ðŸĪ”
  7. What do you mean by resting? Did you have an accident or condition that meant you couldn't walk for a year? If so, there would have been a lot of muscle atrophy and would take time to slowly regain strength / stamina in the leg muscles again.
  8. Have you checked the battery usage in settings? It should show you how much % of battery each app is using.
  9. Election today, Buddhist holiday tomorrow?
  10. This was a 'regular' taxi, if you mean the official airport taxis. Weekday, around 3pm, raining, 50B fee, 80B tolls plus my destination was a bit further, Pinklao on the west bank of the river. This time was on the meter but the cheapest I had last year was 500B fixed fee and that was late at night or after midnight.
  11. China is investing in renewables as well. For example, Sichuan province produces 90% of its electricity from hydroelectric. They can't do that everywhere so still need build fossil fuel plants to meet demand.
  12. You don't...you get energy security by producing your own electricity. As for the intermittent problem, there are several solutions like storing energy during low demand e.g. the new pumped hydro plant at Loch Ness, or diverting power from another renewable source (wind, solar, hydro, tidal, wave).
  13. I remember getting an email about that, about 2 weeks after I registered ðŸĪŠ Now the phone lines are going to be clogged up with 1000s of people all wanting an answer to the same basic question.
  14. Think yourself lucky. I paid 600 just to get to Bangkok last week ðŸĪĻ
  15. ...and now islamic blasphemy laws. Today, a man was in court for burning a koran outside the Turkish Embassy in London. He was charged with 'harassing Islam and causing it alarm and distress'. I didn't realise you could do that to an abstract concept. ðŸĪ” https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-news/derby-man-charged-after-koran-9948858
  16. What a shame but hopefully it's just a bump in the road. Scotland already produces 113% of its electricity needs through renewables. England will take a bit longer to scale up but it's the right way to go in terms of environment and energy security. 😊
  17. Can't we have even one topic that doesn't descend into 'reductio ad trump'? WW2 by the numbers...an oldie but goodie:
  18. Slightly off-topic but this reminds me of an excellent book I once read. It was adapted for British TV in 1965 but, as yet, I can't find it.
  19. Time for a policy I call 'Orban Lite'. ðŸĪ” Adding a million young adults every year while only building 200,000 houses is a recipe for disaster and will only get exponentially worse. Those young adults need houses immediately and then, of course, quickly have babies of their own. Better to institute policies that encourage the natives (of all races / ethnicities) to have babies. The gov then has time to adapt e.g. 5 years to build the primary schools, 10 years to build the secondary schools, and 21+ years to build the houses. Orban introduced policies like: - If a Hungarian woman has 4 kids, she never pays income tax again - If a Hungarian graduate woman has 2 kids, student loans are written off - Free school uniforms, textbooks etc. for children of Hungarian women Incidentally, the abortion rate was halved under these policies which suggests that women were having them for economic reasons; not good. Sensible policies for a sensible Britain 😊
  20. Unfortunately I've got no choice to resort to mobile banking since SCB abolished their online banking service. I tried to get along without it. Hopefully the whole process won't be too painful. Just thinking through the steps now: 1. Order new sim (arrives tomorrow) 2. Download AIS app 3. Register sim (by app) 4. Download SCB app 5. Update phone no. at bank Have I missed anything? ðŸĪ”
  21. Officially needed but they didn't ask for one last year, even though I did my own (twice)...actually I forgot to do it last week 😂
  22. 7 working days before expiry I believe. Also, unless things have changed, 60 day VE are extended at the much more convenient IT Square, Laksi. It's literally next door to the MRT station.
  23. I spent continuous 7 months here last year, on a mixture on 30 / 60 day VE plus extensions, then 6 months in the UK and arrived at BKK last week. I didn't have an onward / return ticket and Emirates at NCL didn't ask for one. At the immigration desk, the lady (no comment) asked if I had a return ticket. After a short discussion about me going back to work in China soon, she let me through with the words 'You can't keep doing this without a visa'. She was very calm and polite about it so I'll take it as friendly advice. 😊 Interestingly, she knew that I 'stay with Thai lady' which I had disclosed when I got pulled aside last year after my final VE...so they do keep tabs.
  24. The Evergrande property crisis leading to low investment, 17% youth unemployment and a population bomb with a very short fuse...not the best time to lose your best 375 million customers.
  25. I've also just returned and staying for a few months this time. I ordered the AIS Zeed sim from Lazada for 50B. You get 2GB 5G + unlimited WIFI for the first month plus a load of stuff for kids which I don't need. From months 2-12 you have to pay 150B p/m to keep it active. Who knows, maybe I'll just bin the package and get a top-up package like 50B p/m for 300MB. I rarely go out so won't use it much. ðŸĪ” EDIT: I'll probably only use packages while I'm here then just pay to keep the service going till I get back. Main reason I'm getting it is because I need a permanent number for banking apps.
