I've been with Comfy a while now, and although not perfect, it's quite a good, cheap service. I pay a fraction of what I used to pay, and in my old service I had many buffering problems. Most obstacles of buffering can be overcome by turning on as VPN. All IPTV services are only good for so long, but Comfy seems to be up there. Maybe, you just had a bad experience.

I understand you @gejohesch fully, because I am in a similar situation, but my partner would rather not know I was saving for her. She wouldn't be able to resist trying to get her hands on it, as she has a problem with gambling, especially online, which can be controlled when I am physically here........to a degree!! I wish members on here would stop saying this, it is an urban myth. Prisoners getting reasonably decent, certainly edible, balanced meals in jail. These can be topped up and improved upon by buying from the prison shops, food is also available in the yards using tickets from your prison card, at so much per day. It used to be around 200 baht a day if memory serves. Family members and visitors can put money into the prisoner's account as well so that they can buy essentials.

With debit card, just enter your PIN as you would in Thailand, another good thing is most UK card ATMs charge you nothing for withdrawals.

This year I was finishing building a house in the UK, this was all self funded, so I slowed down my transactions to Thailand and used funds already here to live on, that I hadn't before. This reduced my cash surplus in Thailand, as UK funds were needed for the house project. I always liked a healthy balance in Thailand in my account, even though it served no benefit to me. I am not saying I am going to jump on the bandwagon and go asking for a TIN number, but I have just done some quick calculations, I probably still have missed something out, but here goes: I worked out I have transferred 428,000 baht only bank to bank. Furthermore, I have withdrawn from ATM's but not those connected to my Thai bank. This money is savings, I get no state pension (too young) or private pension. Well, I am in a Long Term Relationship for 28 years, but we never married, and I pay her a salary every month but probably cannot claim for that either. If I take single man's allowance of 60,000 baht, plus the 150,000 baht allowed tax-free, then add back the allowed 25,000 baht for my health insurance, that comes to 235,000 baht. So worse case scenario, tax on 192,000, well, 5% of the 150-300K equates to 7,500 baht plus 10% of 42,000 equates at 4,200 baht. So, the total bill would be 11,700 baht tax due. It's not worth getting in a sweat about. I still think with monies transferred being savings, I have no tax due to pay, but I think this is the most I would pay if absolutely necessary. I think I don't need a plan B with my houses and cars here all paid for, I will just minimize transfers here bank to bank. How much would it cost me hanging around outside Thailand, in Cambodia or Vietnam, with rents, utilities, food, and spending money for 6 months of the year!

Simple, You don't transfer any monies to Thailand over and above your tax allowances and permitted deductibles. I think people will stop transferring money to buy any big ticket items, unless they can prove its savings prior to 2024. I think quite a slump in condo sales. Nobody wants to be jumping through hoops to prove their funds are from savings prior to 2024. I for one, won't be buying any cars if this is how it is all going to pan out, I change my car every three years, or I was doing. Then we have those that will start being in the country for no more than 179 days. This will happen, especially if it relates to sale of a major asset abroad, and the possibility of what you are saying above. To me, they've shot themselves in the foot if they pursue this, as it will stifle investment from foreigners wanting to retire here. They are not grasping it, that there are plenty more choices these days for wealthy retirees, or actually standard retirees. Europe, South America, and the obvious ones in SE Asia. Thailand just isn't THE BIG CHEESE ANY MORE. It's becoming expensive, the main draw used to be for many, cheap living, sun, sea, and sand and of course, the go go bars and FUN. When the cons start to outweigh the pros, people will decide with their feet.

My other half told me parents refuse to chastise their kids these days because they are in fear of ' they won't be loved! ' by their children. Yes, I was totally confused by this too. Yes, Thanks for that. I think the trick is, is to make sure it doesn't go through bank to bank into Thailand. Other methods as I outlined earlier such as using foreign debit and credit cards and of course, Revolut and Wise cards.

I am a bit confused by that. I thought, rightly or not, that the UK state pension came under the DTA. So what is the difference? State pensions are what most elderly people use in Europe, I accept many have backup with private pensions. If they were going after anything, one would have thought it would be the top-up additional private pension because most people are entitled to state pension, even those who have spent their lives unemployed. The state pensions are supposedly to cover the needs of a pensioner to exist and pay their bills. Anyway, it's got to be transferred in through the banks as income, I have no intention of remitting funds this way any more.
