I have steadfastly dodged popping in to the expat society (or whatever it is) in Chiang Mai for 18 straight months. Even with the tantalizing offer of a discount buffet.

It's down to sheer, ignorant predjudice on my part that they're going to be stiffs and do-nothings -based on nothing.

Do you share my view? Based on what?

Have you ever attended such a meeting? How wrong am I?

I wouldn't go because it's usually full of 70-80 year old men whinging that bar prices have gone up by 2 baht, their pensions are frozen, and that their 21-year-old hooker GF has left them for pastures new, and the whole place smells of stale urine.

Buriram had 'best of Thailand ' additional prize money, as did the Bang Saen half marathon in December

If sponsors wish to donate to support local athletes, that's their choice

I've competed in five Chanthaburi events in past three months - I'd probably support the 'no foreigner prize money' these are local events, locally sponsored, one in November was cleaned out by visiting Kenyans who took every cash prize, just popped in for a warm-up!

I would love to have seen that and been there to witness the look on Thai faces,

Kenyans just popped in for a warm-up and waltzed off with every cash prize.........CLASS!......🤣

Not sure which organisation you are running with but I guess it's a small one with small events.

The Buriram marathon is big. It has many foreign competitors. I don't think it's ever been won by a Thai.

Prizes paid out according to performance, not nationality.

    As it should be!

I have just checked on the British Government website and British nationals can enter into a civil partnership with a Thai and even get married at the British Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam.

There are conditions and the process takes about 21 days, and you must remain in Vietnam during this time.

Neither of these two options are possible at the British Embassy in Bangkok.

This is what I was getting at.

So I apologize to myself, I was right.

    OK, my error there.

I do remember a while ago now, a gay guy who went to Vietnam to perform a civil partnership with a Thai at the British Embassy, because he said he was unable to do this in Thailand.

So, maybe that's where I got my wires crossed.

Many LGBT+ couples went to the Jewellery Trade Centre (JTC) on Silom Road in Bang Rak district today, to register their union on Valentine’s Day.

They were among about 800 couples who signed up online to express their wish to register their marriage at the Bang Rak district office, but the site for registration this year was moved to the JTC, which is more convenient and spacious.

Couples in love prefer to register their relationships at the Bangrak district office, as ‘Bangrak’ signifies the land of love.

Walk free from prison? He never spent a night there.

Walk free from luxury suite at the police HQ would be more accurate.

Either way, bad news for expats in Thailand. Thaksin is notoriously anti foreigner. I wouldn't be surprised to see visa crackdowns, increased financial requirements etc. Bad news all round.

I think foreigners will be way down his list of priorities for the next few years.

  8. Be prepared for a sudden, dramatic recovery in his health.

Now get ready to be bombarded in the press to get his sister back to Thailand.

Let's see him, at every photo opportunity giving solemn Wais to senior monks, pictures of the King, any minister that will listen until he takes charge again, and the public, who his party sold out.

Stomach turning, the hypocrisy and nepotism that goes on in this country, without so much as a red face.
