Thai Senate Approves Landmark Change to Child Discipline Law
Scouse123 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Agree with you, and that is the problem. I think it might do you good to go sit in the classroom sometime and see the behaviour that teachers have to put up with, and then the teachers get criticised when the kids have lousy grades, from kids and classrooms that have no interest in anything, except social media and playing with their smartphones. -
Thai Senate Approves Landmark Change to Child Discipline Law
Scouse123 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Teachers get a bad rep by a few high profile incidents, the press is good at that. Sometimes, teachers must take disciplinary action because the kids have no responsible parenting at home and are left to do as they please. As in all countries, the ones that get attention are the ones where irresponsible teachers have gone over the top, leading to understandable outrage. I wish countries, like the UK and others, were forced to provide graphs and charts showing child and teenage delinquency figures and their correlation to the removal of corporal punishment in schools and in the home. As a kid I would never back chat a policeman, nowadays in the UK, they set buses on fire and then throw bricks at the emergency services coming to put them out. There is no deterrent. Let's put them on the "naughty step" for half an hour doesn't cut it. In the UK we now have parents, using the term loosely, taking their kids to school in Pyjamas, (the parents are in PJ's not the kids), No respect for any kind of authority. We have kids in the UK threatening parents with social services if they try to punish them. It has become ridiculous, and we now have feral kids, juvenile delinquency at record highs. We have 12 and 13-year-olds out raping, stabbing people, committing major drug crimes because they know they are going to be treated with kid gloves, and authorities and parents cannot do a thing about it. In recent times, this type of behaviour seems to have crossed over to Asia, in particularly Thailand. It is a downward path. -
Thai Police Officer Suspended for Firing Gun Outside Thonglor Pub
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
That is why the RTP is a laughingstock among all decent police forces throughout the world. I am sure 10 sit-ups is going to correct the misdeeds of a wayward cop and lead his workmates to hesitate before threatening to blow somebody away, whilst pissed and carrying a gun in public. Police officers who are off duty should not be carrying firearms. On this occasion nobody was killed or maimed, it could easily have gone the other way. -
Grilling the corrupt: Pattaya vows to clean up squid scandal

When I was in business in Pattaya and 25 years younger, I went down there for the laugh. Any further trips after I left have never included walking street. -

I am 62 but still go to discos and clubs and noisy bars, especially when on a mini break in Bangkok or Siem Reap. Admittedly, I have never bothered really with substances, other than alcohol. -
DTV visa extension
Scouse123 replied to JoseThailand's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
So you are saying a 5-year visa for a two-week cookery course, or a few fillings with a clean and polish at a dentist, is the ' spirit ' of which this visa was created or intended? I differ in my thinking. The retirement extension based on "O" VISA and money in the bank method, ensures you must have 800K for two months before, and three months after the granting of the visa. It can never fall below 400K in the bank outside these months. I don't see any such rule for the 500K on the DTV visa, bearing in mind this money is supposed to be a guarantee they can sustain themselves, particularly on soft power visas, where they don't have provable income. Proof remains to be seen on how this visa is viewed by the authorities down the line. -

I wonder if there is a mistranslation here because New South Wales is in Australia? It says he ran a cleaning company there and hailed from Gillingham in Kent, which is England. He could, of course, have been a Brit working in Australia. RIP, to the man, way too young to pass away.- 98 replies

DTV visa extension

Am I correct that on first entering Thailand with the piece of A4 and the DTV visa received online, it is then substituted and changed to a full DTV stamp in the passport?? -
DTV visa extension
Scouse123 replied to JoseThailand's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You have opened my eyes a bit to ways immigration could view the DTV if they decide to become negative towards it. I am still on Non-0 extensions. Time will tell. On a footnote, the reason I could see it happening is that it is already getting abused right now, with people getting them for dental appointments and 2 week cookery classes. -

Swiss Tourist Attacked by Local Youths in Pattaya
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
So, you have never seen Thais dishing out gratuitous violence and unprovoked attacks? Obviously you haven't been here long or not lived in Bangkok or been to a concert in Isaarn, nor been attacked for going to the wrong school, which often happens in day to day Thailand. Even coming from the wrong village can cause grief in rural areas, with no money and a bored resentful youth. -
