How many seeders are there ?? - if there are no more seeders visible in the torrent browser then the download is no longer possible. By 98.5 with 1.5 to go, I'm assuming GB.... ensure you haven't 'topped off' your available storage space....

An advice needed - buying a used car
richard_smith237 replied to Hellfire's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I suspect this has more to do with 'general impression' than anything else... something is only worth what people are prepared to pay and if the general idea. If 'something goes' on an ICE the part can be replaced unless the engine is completely shot. If the 'battery' has a problem, thats the end of the car, unless the battery is replaced and at the moment a replacement battery is more expensive than the value of a car (once its aged)... Hence, why the value will drop off a cliff - will anyone want to buy a 7year old second hand EV ???? Whereas there is a strong second hand market for ICE's. -
Class 1 insurance for older cars (Benz)
richard_smith237 replied to wozzlegummich's topic in Car Insurance Options
The car I am looking at is a W203 C32 AMG - about THB 700,000 In that case, I can understand why you'd want 1st class insurance... I've used the same insurance broker for about 15 years... Always reliable and provides a range of options. We just renewed our insurance, she did the taxi, Por-ror-bor and 1st Class insurance in one sweep and she'll remind us each year as the renewal time approaches. Once you get your car - PM me and I can forward her contact details. Her English isn't great and my Wife deals with her all the time now, but I used to deal with her years ago and she was very helpful. -
Did you actually have 3 active connections? I ask as all the companies I know of limit you to 2 active connections at any time. Was not your Thai sim dormant until activated for the OTP and did it not inactivate the French e-sim while it was active? This is likely rather difficult to prove or disprove as you would need to receive calls on both lines while getting an OTP. It is certainly an interesting question and it maybe that the activation of one number can temporarily inactivate another. Good question... I didn't have 3 active connections at the same time.... But, whenever I needed an OTP to my Thai number, it was a simple 'flick' of a (digital) switch on the phone. Does anyone need 3 cell connections running concurrently ? (or just the option to conveniently switch)

Where to travel out of country for 2 days?
richard_smith237 replied to Terek's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Plenty of options... But given the Op - the obvious options that spring to mind are: - Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi - Penang - Vientiane -
Of course, the penalties would be extreme... Or more realistically, you'd end up shot dead because any armed Policeman in the UK is highlight trained, also, never operating alone.... Thus due to training and SOP the opportunity would not present itself in the first place making your 'whatifery' a completely moot point.

Best 'Gummies' in Bangkok ?
richard_smith237 replied to richard_smith237's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
No it doesn't: https://s.lazada.co.th/s.mCC7a Erm Yes it does... If it takes longer than 'dipping a hand in a bag' then its too long !! I also don't want my house smelling of weed - which it may if I decided to make my own gummies - that said, I agree with knowing the 'potency' (knowing whats in 'em).... But thats the whole reason for asking the question, consistency of strength is key, Not if we don't 'want cookies'.... but, its a valid point. The reasons I haven't asked about cookies is that I don't want them in the house - I can't store them in the bedroom out of the way and there is too much risk of my son accidentally eating them when I keep them in the fridge (or in a jar in the kitchen). (Note: I keep gummies well out of the way in the bedroom in a zip lock bag - I don't think thats ideal for cookies, not in the BR anyway). That said: I'd be open to taking cookies and brownies... but the purchase would have to be a smaller amount so there aren't any laying around. -

Some people have different views: How many complaints are made against police officers, and how many are sacked? (bbc.com) And your interpretation of those views in comparison to the general level of trust and general degree of regard the Thai Police are held by the general population is quite flawed. All you have have done is to provide us with an example of the transparency and official due process that Police in the UK face when there is a complaint. This information alone validates my point rather than contradicts it.

That would explain the escalation and adds a little logic to the progression of a situation that turned chaotic. - Policeman stops the NZ Guys and starts filming them. - NZ Guys not happy about this and react, take the phone to try to delete photos. - Police officer responds angrily and the NZ thinks he needs to remove the risk of the Policeman reaching for his gun. (something like that anyway - & before the wise-arses step in... yes, this all speculation of course - for the purposes of discussion on this forum)

Can't say I disagree 😉 If we are being fair, we don't know that the Police officer was 'an aggressor'... ... there's a lot of language being used in this story that highlights bias... ... Aggressor, victim, subdued, attacked, controlled etc... As voyeurs to this story, all we do know is that one NZ Guy disarmed a Thai policeman... We don't know if the policeman had become an aggressor in the eyes of the NZ guys (and reasonable opinion) by that point, or if the NZ acted with idiotic oversight. ... a lot of the argument and debate on this forum revolves around what we can see and interpret... There is a strong argument to suggest there is a lot more to this story than is reported.

Removing shoes going into a shop- selective hygiene?
richard_smith237 replied to Scouse123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You won't catch me kissing a dog. I'd like to argue the same, but there are one or two 'drunk nights' back in Uni that I'd rather forget where my friends may comment otherwise.... Regarding the shoes off thing... I get the discussion, I get the objection when its public areas and shops etc.. ... but is it really a big deal ?? I've been here a number of years and its never something that even crossed my mind as an issue until it was reported that a Russian woman kicked a Thai woman this week. -
100% agree,..... what happened in the build up is absolutely relevant as it creates context.... Thats not to defend the NZ Guys at all... But neither am I condemning on the 'thin information' that is present. What they did is clearly wrong (taking the gun off a Police officer), but with context it may be shown that it was absolutely necessary. Of course, we don't and can't possibly know that without more factual information.... the issue of course is that I'm not sure what factual information exists... .... People thin on critical consciousness want to blame the NZ Guys as that fits their ideal that a confrontational situation such as this could never happen to them, it makes them feel safer and that is an overwhelming impression that impacts the unconscious bias. Thats not to suggest the NZ guys are innocent or that they are not solely to blame... but I do suggest that those so quick to condemn them suffer a degree of cerebral myopathy that hinders critical thought.

I think the risk of bacterial or parasitic infection from pet licks are a far greater risk than the 'gunk' in a hipsters beard... -
Removing shoes going into a shop- selective hygiene?
richard_smith237 replied to Scouse123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Its not.. and I don't think it ever has been... Its a cultural thing,.. something thats always been done in houses and in smaller shops that are more personal the same social norms are followed... ... And, just as a lot of idiosyncrasies in our own cultures that seem normal to us, but strange to foreigners, this is just one of those things... In places, 'its done' for no other reason than this is the way its always been done.... ... Sometimes when we think too much beyond this simplicity it gets a little silly - somethings don't need a detailed explanation or a deep rooted cultural understanding... somethings are just the way they are for no other reason than they're just the way they are. -
There area Dentists on every Soi (in Bangkok at least)... Competition is high... cost very likely quite minimal... Last year, I had a 'service' which included an X-Ray and a filling... I thin it cost me about 2500 baht... So... a 'tooth pull'.. my guess is that a half decent place will charge about 1500 baht (pure guess - but that could be about ball park).

This “expert” decision will change their lives forever. Being an expert in anything does not mean you have a license to turn off your brain and common sense. But it may well have saved their lives... Could this have been quite a different news story had they not reacted to subdue the officer ??... who knows. Something triggered them to 'take control of the weapon'... - either they (NZ guys) were crazy and out of control (the video didn't show guys in an out of control rage) - or, they felt they were in grave danger and felt no choice but to subdue the police officer. As far as 'running' the check point is concerned... Was there actually a check point ???.. or just a police officer on bike who decided to follow some foreigners an 'test the water' for a 'no license bribe' ????... and the NZ guys decided they were not playing until a chase ensued and things got quite out of hand. And you seem to create fantasies and expect them to be accepted too. Do you deny that they took the officers weapon or will you tell us the police officer handed it over for the guy to have a play with? Fantasies ???? No... But possible scenarios and discussion points based on information and stories of decades of living here.... 'ding' - that one... ... the video was quite clear: I don't deny they took the officers weapon... I do not agree that this was an 'attack'... the video shows their (NZ-Guys) interest was in securing the Gun.... ... the question begs... 'why did the NX Guy feel the need to secure the Gun' ??? .... was he scared for his life ? or was he an out of control nutcase ???
