  1. Just another day in government house then !!!...
  2. Why are you trying to force this into being an immigration issue ? Your question is dumbed down and over simplified - No, no one suggests immigrants do not commit serious crimes.. they clearly do, so do British nationals - is there any proportionate difference ?? There should be a zero tolerance policy on any serious crime. The British Authorities should be careful about who is allowed in... i.e. those with existing criminal records of serious crime should not be permitted entry to the UK and those who have been caught committing serious crime jailed then deported. Authorities should also be careful to monitor existing British criminals found to have committed serious crime in the past. Yes, which I why don’t like to see thinly veiled bigotry and racism, most immigrants come to the UK, work hard, fit in, contribute to a cosmopolitan society. That said - none of this shooting above has anything to do with immigration... It was a drive by shooting... it could equally have been british born nationals as it is immigrants or even someone who’d travelled into the UK for the ’specific task’ [shooting]..... Making this an ‘immigration issue’ without any further information is simply highlighting a bias.
  3. Oh no.... Black guy with priors... shot at point blank range by a white policeman... ... how is this going to be spun to suggest the police are racist ?
  4. What confirmation bias are you looking for ? Drive by shooting... Columbian hit ?
  5. Of course they can... nearly every American from Canada can...
  6. That gives you the perfect opportunity to join in with the pedants who pathetically argue the insignificant vocabulary differences when the posters meaning is quite obvious....
  7. You have a full time driver ?.... or are you also too cheap ?
  8. And in certain area’s of Bangkok, at certain times the taxi’s refuse to use their meters and there are no Bolts and no Grabs available, yet loads of taxis rolling up and down the road for their ‘fixed fare’.... This fair increase may help the honest taxi drivers and I support that - but it won’t make one bit of difference to the ‘dregs of the taxi driving industry’ who are attracted to the ‘nightlife areas’ so they can charge fixed rates...
  9. Dumbed down over simplification of the reality that in some areas at certain times no taxi will use the meter... ....the options is ‘accept it’ or walk for a coupe of hours....
  10. And those defending the driver perhaps need to look inwards and wonder why they are defending someone who ran over another person while going slowly in broad daylight. Wrong - nothing being in front of you suggests ‘all clear’ to a driver !!! If a barrier opens but there is a child stood there - its clearly not ‘all clear’.... The link is below - it seems impossible that the driver could not see the driver... she obviously wasn’t looking, was distracted, on the phone etc... but even after that she didn't notice... thats just extremely odd.... Someone mentioned she should have been tested for drugs and I’d agree... she should definitely be tested for benzodiazepine’s etc... https://thepattayanews.com/2023/01/12/australian-woman-runs-over-and-kills-street-painter-in-pattaya/
  11. I’d have logged on here to tell the story and prove to Gottfrid that its not just the Brits who can be d!<ks !!! No one likes a grass !!!.... just curious though, what would you have said to a Guard who doesn’t speak English ? assuming you can’t speak fluent Thai... > Farang mai jai dee dop-sallop-sallai ATM ???
  12. I can see why it would bother some.... I’m not an anti-masker and as written above, believe we should be encourage to wear a mask if we have a cold or feel unwell. BUT... I see no reason for perfectly healthy people to be wearing a mask... there is 'asymptomatic transmission’ discussion to be had here, but a line has to be drawn somewhere otherwise we’d be mask wearing 100% of the time... Thus: Perhaps those you are accusing of being ‘anti-maskers’ are actually viewing from a perspective of common sense and they see all those around them as having none which is concerning. It's concerning to see so many around us blindly following everyone else without critical thought. It’s also of concern that when not ‘conforming’ with the masses some may become judgemental and make a scene, give a dirty look.... not wearing a mask can draw the odd Karen (male or female).... Thus: IMO - it would be better if society just reverted back to pre-covid social norms with the caveat - wear a mask if you have the snivels... IMO thats all it needs to be now with no rules and no judgements.
  13. That relies more on people being uninformed. No it doesn’t.... it relies on people being considerate and socially responsible. IF someone has a cold and they wear a mask the risk of them spreading that cold to others is reduced... Masks are effective at preventing transmission of a respiratory virus in the same manner as our covering our mouths / nose when we cough or sneeze... it limits the distance to which with expel respiratory droplets.... Masks are effective in the same way and effective when we talk, laugh etc... Thus: While mask wearing won’t stop the spread it certainly limits the extent and range which respiratory droplets and aerosol is expelled - that can make a difference.... Hence my comment about wearing a mask if you have a cold. That said, there is no reason for perfectly healthy people to wear a mask IMO.
  14. Surely you don’t think his actions are not worthy of condemnation ?? I do agree... he’s taken responsibility, or, rather, he has sufficient funds to allow his money to take responsibility for him..... I won’t hold my breath to actually see him stick to his word though and replace the vehicles he destroyed.
  15. Really? So far he hasn't "skipped off" anywhere. He didn’t kill anyone... so no need too... He’ll just pay whatever arbitrary fine they throw at him...
  16. There definitely needs to be some clarification. At the moment its just work permit holders who won’t need to pay this. But there are plenty of other non-Thai’s who live here such as Non-Immigrant O holders and SE / PE (Thai Elite) visa holders etc... Personally... I’m in and out often so would expect to contribute about 3000 baht to this scheme which is not an issue at all - BUT... the potential ‘extra delays’ queuing to pay this charge could become extremely frustrating.
  17. One of the issues that existed with the old 500 baht departure tax is that people would arrive at the airport for their departing flight without any Thai money.... It created a huge inconvenience. So... What happens on arrival when Tourist arrive without any Thai Baht ??? There is no ATM Air-side.... So what happens next ?... do they accept card payment ? As always, Thailand introduces a plan and completely overlooks the important details which will significantly impact the ease of arriving.
  18. That was an airport Tax.... initially 500 Baht for international departures and 30 Baht for domestic. They simply add that to the ticket these days, I believe it is now 800 baht. Realistically - Is this going to be used for Tourists who can’t pay their medical bills ??? I can just see the $$ in the eyes of those who stand an opportunity at fuelling some money their way - This is Thailand, we just know a huge amount is going to get skimmed off the top.
  19. You’ll take a hit if you don’t sell privately. The dealerships will / may offer you a ‘trade in price’ but they’ll skin you alive on price. I’ve asked in the past and have been amused at the extent of lowballing. Private car sales (called ‘tents’ in Thailand) will also offer below market value but tend to be hassle free. You’ll get lowballed again, but not as badly as the dealerships. IMO - the best way to sell the car for the best price is FaceBook market place. You’ll get lowball offers from chancers, ‘tents’ will also call up and offer you daft prices etc.. IF you price your car properly, it will sell. You can get a good idea of what to price the car at on one2car.com Realistically its worth about 650,000 to 700,000 baht. https://www.one2car.com/en/cars-for-sale/mazda/cx-3/year-2021
  20. One of the reasons I can think of is that the don’t want the journey back & they prefer to remain local. I guess its an individual decision by the driver. There is also a difference between GrabCar and GrabTaxi - its the same APP.. but you can specify a car (i.e. someones private car) rather than a Taxi.... With GrabCar you’ll get a better vehicle (in most cases, but could end upon with a tiny little Mazda 2 (The App will tell you what kind of car you are getting and you can cancel if you don’t want that car). As another poster mentioned booking privately - IMO thats a much better option. Using a service recommended by posters on this forum.
  21. Do we need to be at the scene to identify that the lady ran slowly over a person in the road in broad daylight ? - there is no mitigating circumstance here, she make a fatal mistake either through inattention or through poor eyesight etc... The guy shouldn’t have been there, but he was - that in no way or form removes any blame or fault from the person who failed to look where they were driving.
  22. No it can’t - It can happen to someone not paying attention, not looking where they are going. IF it happened to me, its because I wasn’t looking where I was going in broad daylight...
  23. Can’t you plug it into either of the Apps and it’ll tell you ? i.e. I just plugged it into BOLT and its quoting ±1500 baht... .. all if this depends on the driver being prepared to take the journey.
  24. How could that be? N95s are perfectly able to filter viral particles. What is your expertise, if you have one, that might be relevant? They don’t quite filter the individual ‘virus particles’.... they filter the aerosol and water-vapour which can carry a virus. As you indicate - N95 masks are clearly better, but when worn for any length of time incredibly uncomfortable. On the other hand, standard surgical masks are pretty ineffective at protecting the wearer, but serve as a ‘community measure’ protecting a lot of others from your own expelled aerosol when talking, coughing etc if in the event you are carrying something. IMO - the social norm should be.... if you have a cold wear a mask when out and about, but that relies on people being considerate of others.
  25. thats obvious but with my friend when they seen the picture of a moped on his home car licence they assumed it meant he was licenced to ride a motorbike when in reality it only allows a 50cc moped, when we arrived home my friend asked...what does this motorbike licence allow me to do? I said it mean you can go and buy a 1000cc motorbike today and ride legally, he replied but i have never ridden anything with 2 wheels apart from a bicycle. IDP is of no relevance anyway (when converting a UK licence)... the DLT accept a UK driving licence and will transfer whatever endorsements there are (i.e. car / motorcycle) and clearly don’t pay much attention... they see the silhouette of a motorcycle on the endorsements side (as posted above) and thats enough.... Its a mistake on their (DLT’s) part, but I’m not complaining.
