Why do these stereotypes exist ??.... Why do the statistics match the stereotype ? could it be that this stereotype is based on fact ? There are far more reported Pit-Bull attacks than any other breed. There are far more deaths from Pit-Bull attacks than any other breed. Yes, they can be nasty little B’stards and if they had the size and power of a Pit-Bull this thread would be about Chihuahua’s and Pit-Bulls and all breeds considered dangerous.

That is exactly what the service is for...... when the customer doesn’t want to cook or collect food themselves... a paid for service provides exactly that.... Can you imagine Domino’s pizza in the UK suggesting we collect it ourselves because it started raining ? So whats the point of having a delivery service with drivers / riders who don’t want to deliver? It misses the point. And... So, Grab try and act against this by ensuring drivers take the jobs by stipulating that they have to take xx jobs within their area or they lose their entitlement to work for Grab. So, drivers take jobs they have no intention of fulfilling - thus creating the inconvenience at times. This has also invariably happens with GrabTaxi - drivers take the job, then don’t want it and either call up to ask me to cancel it, or they just cancel themselves.

I know... I really don’t mind the back and forth debate.... it’s it gives an understand of how differing peoples opinions are or how differently then understand an issue or event. It also highlights quite clearly how some will fire off a hyperbolic projection with some ridiculous strawman fallacies to point score.... All entertaining stuff for me... It’s just debate and I’m sure everyone could just have a beer and have the same silly debates around a table....

Then what was the point of the whole thread? Not that they ‘HAVE’ to have delivery.... ... its that people have chosen to use a delivery service which then fails on its promise. The underlying issue is the ‘offer of a service’ then receiving poor service or actually being inconvenienced by the service because they took the order, then cancelled it a short time later. The same thing happens sometimes when we order a ‘GrabTaxi’, a driver takes the ride. Then 10 mins later cancels it. .... in this case we’d have suggestions from a few of our forum geniuses that we should walk, take ourselves, or wait until a better time, or plan ahead and take the journey earlier etc etc... ultimately, a lot of flippant and obtuse replied that miss the point.

I didn't realise that you didn't have any legs . Did you lose them to diabetes ? Another stupid response Mac.. and just after you suggest I grow up !!! No one wants to walk 2km in the rain to fetch food when there are delivery service options..... How hard is that for you to work out. The issue of course is that at times GrabDelivery takes the order, then cancels it, waisting your time... the Op is irritated at that which is wholly understandable.... ....well, it seems that isn’t understandable to a few of you who want to argue that people should get their own food or cook themselves, and in doing so missing the point completely with an outstanding level of obtuseness.

Who ‘HAS’ to have a delivery ???.... no has written anything of the sort - thats just your exaggeration.

Have I upset you and that's the reason why you are being abusive ? Nothing personal of course... but if you’re going to end up butt-hurt at the response to stupid comments (quoted below).. its best not to start crying about it, you really are the sensitive bunny aren’t you !!!... It seems you are unable to distinguish between ‘understanding someone else’s irritation' and 'getting upset’.... thats your flawed understanding, not mine. Juvenile triggering tactics below - who do you suggest grows up, now ?

I wouldn't go to one of those restaurants , I would call them up and tell them to come to me The have that service as well.... .... but don’t you prefer to do everything yourself ???

I doubt any experienced rider would have a problem hitting one. Just the inexperienced, drunk or stoned rider would have a problem. Maybe a good thing, if you fall off hitting one of those maybe don't ride anymore lol I disagree.... if lane splitting on a moped in heavy traffic, skinny tires.... this could cause a lot of people to come unstuck. We’re not all riding an ADV 1200 designed for unstable surfaces at speeds which ensure stability. But.. your point is also quite wrong in the fact that many many of Thailands motorcyclists are inexperienced, new riders, old people, families on scooters etc... and these lights present a hazard to them all..... this hazard exists regardless of your riding ability or my riding ability.... ..... There is no intelligent reason to place these lights in the muddle of the road.... IF they wanted lights, they should be flush with the road surface. The person who okay’d for lights in the middle of the road is an idiot when when lights like this (below) are available. The lights they have used are for off the side of the road - they’ve installed the wrong type of light, in doing so, created a danger to motorcyclists.

1) Always on full alert when riding - never not on full alert. 2) Always wear a top quality helmet - Minimum: Bell Custom 500 (open face) - trainers / gloves (& T-shirt & shorts) for local runs. - Normal: Bell Bullit - trainers / gloves / Riding Jacket - trainers & shorts (for main roads). - All Gear: Shoe Neotec or Bell Bullit - Boots / Gloves / Jacket / Riding pants or Riding Jeans for longer rides. 3) Always a danger.... riding the same speed as other vehicles makes them less so of a danger, IMO. So you are still on full alert but more so for what is approaching from behind. Back roads are defo safer, but the risks are different, dogs etc... idiots pulling out into the road without looking etc. Agreed....

Grab use this for their GrabTaxi / GrabCar with their surge pricing. They could do the same with their food delivery.... Obviously demand is higher at peak meal times and in intervals of inclement weather.... why shouldn’t the riders be paid more to deliver in the rain ??? (they get more tips already - from myself and some of those who’ve posted). We want the convenience, pay for it - I fully support that.

No need to be abusive My apologies... I’m sure they’d welcome your application !!!

Still looking for work ? I think they call places like that ‘karaoke bars’... they wouldn’t employ you

It's only a matter of time before a motorcyclist hits one and falls under the wheels of a lorry and gets his head squashed.... ... there will be outrage for a couple of days, criticism of how something so dangerous can be put in the roads. IF sufficient face is lost, a higher up will order their removal. But.. we can be sure, nothing will be done to make remove them and make the road safer until these lights first cost a few people their lives... Thai’s... reactionary very rarely proactive - foreigners complaining about this danger will simply be accused of ’thinking too much’....

In that case, they are lethal..... The person who ok’d these must be a total and utter imbecile...

Buying a car from another province
richard_smith237 replied to Geoff Smith1's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You would have to do the ‘exchange’... Then go to the DLT in Bangkok and register the car in your name. Either the seller (previous owner) goes with you to the DLT (which is easier), or he signs over the car blue book and a couple of documents (*see below) and his ID, and you can go to the DLT yourself (risk of something missing). You will need your Passport (copies ID and visa), you will need Certificate of Address. You’ll pay a nominal transfer fee / tax. After you have transferred the car into your name (at the DLT) which should not take more than 30mins (depends on queues). You can then drive your new car to Hua Hin. Once in Hua Hin you can go about re-registering your car locally. Forms required if transferring without presence of owner: *Auto ownership transfer form *Power of attorney for car transfer *Car registration and ownership transfer (link to thread which contains the forms). https://aseannow.com/topic/1147974-power-of-attorney-to-sell-car/ -
Of course... Go back further and we didn’t have cars... we survived. We didn’t have internet, we survived. We’ve also evolved as a society..... we covet convenience because we want to do more than survive, we want to enjoy our time and quality of life. ------- Wife and I do often stay in and cook amazing food.... but we don’t want to do that every day. Good food takes time, effort and care, its enjoyable to make... but we don’t always have the time or want to spend that amount of effort... Bangkok is an amazing city for food - we can order out and get excellent quality for cheaper than it would cost to cook for ourselves.... then there is no prep, no cleaning etc... the options and choice for ordering food are amazing..... IF the delivery is reliable. The complaint of this thread (the Op) is that delivery can be somewhat of a weak-link in the system. A valid point I think.

15-year-old motorcyclist collides with dog and dies
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
If they were on bicycles instead of motorcycles the speed would obviously be less, but the same issues would still exist with stray dogs knocking them off, with the additional issue of strays chasing the kids of bicycles because they can keep up with them. I think the legal limit for motorcycles is 15 yrs at certain cc limit (110cc ???) - as you mention, that can still reach speed. No helmets and no road eduction is clearly an issue. In schools (world wide) students learn so many various subjects, but they are never taught life skills. Many of those students may never need their chemistry, maths etc but nearly all of them will ride or drive and learning to do that safely will be more important than anything else they may learn (the same can be said for water safety). Thus: Education and enforcement of existing laws - Thailand is failing its youngsters. But... even with education and enforcement of existing laws, stray dogs are still an issue and something need to be done about that. -
Cattle won't get in an elevator, they are cowards. Have to try some udder way. Not ‘amooosed'... but, at least you are attempting to lighten the ‘beef’ between the ‘pro’ vs ‘anti’ delivery guys !!! which give us time to take ’stock’ of the situation...

How are you preparing for the coming cold spell ?
richard_smith237 replied to worgeordie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In Bangkok we would usually get that two week spell of awesomeness when the humidity drops right down and we can turn off the AC and open the windows.... ... I recall one year, being able to open the balcony doors and enjoy my morning coffee... in t-shirt, jeans and yes... socks !!!.. Its cold enough that people without heating and warm clothes die.... (up north of course). And yes, it doesn’t get as cold as it does in the UK... but then we can have the Canadians join this argument and they’ll tell us the UK doesn’t get cold !!.... We can just agree - its not warm and it can get uncomfortably cool in just shorts and a t-shirt. An awesome time of year I wish lasted 4 months or more !!! -

A sweater ?? That’s what we call the festering sex-pests sweating out last nights pi$$ while walking to their local bar at 10am... -
I think most people ‘up country’ ride this way because they simply copy everyone else without really thinking about it. Unless all the traffic is going 100-120kmh and your motorcycle can only travel at 80kmh then of course, its better being out of the way of the traffic. But... IF the traffic is going 80-100kmh and you are on a motorcycle that can easily reach 140kmh, that shoulder on the left is the most dangerous place to be IMO. In any stretch of road, the more vehicles passing you, the more risk you are at of getting hit... i.e. in a 10kmh stretch you are travelling at 50km on the shoulder, 50 cars pass you, the probability of one of them not paying attention and drifting off the road is present. But, if you are travelling at 90kmh with the speed of the traffic, the only vehicle you have to worry about hitting you is the car behind. Obviously there is more to it than that, but thats the basic crux of it. Riding on the shoulder with the gravel, litter, dogs, a pop-up fruit stall, something fallen of a pickup the day before etc... is just far risker IMO.... These lights should not be a hazard because riding down that thin stretch of littered road is more dangerous.

They have Grab... LineMan... RobinHood... They all have an English option on the App. Plus there are some others for supermarket stuff such as HappyBee etc.. all very convenient. It’s great when we have friends around and run out of beer etc.. We can just ask LineMan or Grab to get us more beer !!... ....Of course I’ll get slammed for this and the dumb-ar$es will suggest go get the beer yourself, or should have planned better etc etc... The convenience of the delivery services in Thailand is awesome... but, when you think I’ll order Grab tonight and then that becomes a hassle the ‘minor’ irritation is easily understood, even if you are one of the tools who is telling people to cook or go and get their own food !!!

I think some people think slow is safe... so they ride slowly and stay as far to the left of their lane as possible. I’ve always considered this more dangerous, it encourages other vehicles to try and pass you thus squeezing you further left etc... IMO - its best to ride with the speed of the traffic in a real lane, command your position on the road, be seen - be a part of the traffic and not Somchai’s after thought to be squeezed out of the way. - There’s also just less road junk on the main part of the road, the frontage parts of the road are riddled with litter and gravel.
