1. Does anyone else find it strange that there are a increasing group of mainly african men in bangkok and more paticularly gullivers on khao san and soi 5!

Also when there engaged in connversation with myself arent quite able to say why they are actually here, and the reasons i have got are shady to say the least!

Also the impact on the thai girl front is scary to say the least....if you understand my meaning!

And the fact im have been offered a certain "party enhancer" from some of these young chaps, not that im tarring everyone with the same brush as some of my good friends here of african decent have the same veiw

Nice bit of racist stereotyping for your first post. The impudence of those Africans, hanging around Khao San and Soi 5 and not telling you why they are there :o

I can't believe no one's picked up on the " impact on the thai girl front is scary to say the least.....if you understand my meaning "

That is of course if he/she's implying what i think he/she is..

he is implying that many come from countries with an inordinately high rate of HIV infection.

something i too would be concerned about had i any intention of sharing women from the same talent pool.

i will also state that many deal drugs, though the market does not make it conceivable that the majority share the same profession.

many are also involved in passport and identification forgery. again this is obvously only a subset of the whole

many are just simple importer/exporters with a penchant for noxious cologne, though i have met far less of these fellows than i have the other types.

hard to argue with the above.

  2. Redknapp & Levy are two Men the Game could do without imo..

Don't forget the sold Defoe, the bought him back for double the price, all in teh space of a year..

& of course, Harry didn't pocket a penney...

isn't cuddly chirpy harry still under investigation from the bungs enquiry? not sure it ever finished did it?

    still is.

  3. Hi citizen33 ---- i can see nothing in the segment you posted <Community law> that refers to the scenario described by henry..... am I reading it incorrectly???

The example cases cited included one where free admission for nationals, or foreign nationals resident in the country, is deemed in breach of EU Articles 7 and 59, and one where schemes offering preferential rates for local residents is deemed to breach these same rules. Perhaps my sentence does oversimplify this (I was trying to keep it short). Neither case is exactly the same scenario (local residents - as opposed to nationals/foreigners with residency - free) but together they clearly show that free admission (Henry's 'gift') does not nullify the application of the rules. Nor can a service provider get around the rules by saying that differential pricing is based on place of residence rather than nationality. For Henry's argument to be correct, you would have to argue that the Italian case would have been thrown out if admission for the locals was free rather than set at a lower price, but it is clear this would have made no difference. It is a little bit frustrating when one uses a kind of shorthand to encourage people to read the full links and they prefer to point out that the shorthand doesn't give a complete explanation! I'm not saying that there are not examples of discriminatory practice that still slip through the net in the EU, but I stick with my view that Henry is wrong to say that making something free gets around the Commission's rules.

Here is a snippet from the second case, which bears directly on local residency.

    16 January 2003

Judgment of the Court of Justice in Case C-388/01

    Commission v Italy

THE COURT OF JUSTICE CENSURES ITALY FOR HAVING ALLOWED ADVANTAGEOUS RATES FOR ADMISSION TO CULTURAL SITES UNDER MUNICIPAL OR DECENTRALISED CONTROL ONLY FOR ITALIAN NATIONALS AND PERSONS RESIDENT WITHIN THE TERRITORIES OF THE AUTHORITIES RUNNING THEM.

so now what - does italy get to spend time in jail for this? :o

  4. jealousy is a wonderful thing :o

i am not playing mind games, i am just stating facts.

like Rafa should do, leave the mind games to us. anyways, can you believe the spurs want to defer payments for palacious over 4 years to wigan???

no harm in asking but seriously, we have owners that are the same as levy :D but surely things arent that desperate in t-ham these days?

  5. I do hope City won't be as hated as the Red Club in Manchester is, by non Man Ure Fans but i just have a feeling, & i'm not singling out you MrBJ as you're one of many i know, that the way their Fans are talking about this new found wealth, they may be soon..

i don't know, it depends how city fans carry it. if they behave like many chelsea fans did when abramovich arrived they'll be disliked for it. but they could invade tibet and nuke the vatican and they'll still never be as unpopular as the glams from salford.

jealousy is a wonderful thing :o

  6. BTW, in case any of you missed it, please allow me to present you with the updated and correct standings.

  7. back in 1996 the area just on the other side of KSR was called little Africa but back then they all seemed to dress like LA gang bangers as for soi 5 it is called little Africa and there are many Africans trolling for game. :o

ok, but why do the authorities not do anything about this? am i missing something?

  8. Fortunately, we're rich as <deleted>, so it's a drop in the ocean :D

I do hope City won't be as hated as the Red Club in Manchester is, by non Man Ure Fans but i just have a feeling, & i'm not singling out you MrBJ as you're one of many i know, that the way their Fans are talking about this new found wealth, they may be soon..

That'd be a shame cos as i've said a few times in the past on here, City Fans are generally a good bunch, just hope that doesn't change with the AD $$..

Most hated or most popular? :o

  9. I don't know if there are any more than usual, but with the noticably fewer numbers of tourists, they tend to stand out more.

I used to like shopping at Foodland Soi 5 after a few bevies on a Friday night, but I see they have invaded the little bar next door in droves. Between that and all the MENA people jammed around the food counter inside, and drunks and pimps in the area, it's becoming a bit of a hassle.

Just curious, looking at the posts above, are we saying that all these fine folks are here on tourist visas?

  10. I agree with it the way it is for the most part - but could be shortened to two weeks (media wouldn't like that though).

In general it affords teams the opportunity to shore up weak areas, get rid of dead wood. For fans, it presents a 2nd chance if you will for their team to turns thing around via a transfer.

While it can be unsettling for some teams / fans, this can be addressed by the manager. For example, when UTD picked up those two Serbians a couple weeks back, SAF came out afterwards and stated "We are done".

For a team like the Hammer's, I am sure this period is most unsettling although you wouldn't know it from their play recently. Perhaps this is an occaision when job uncertainty is motivating. :o

  11. Actually a Thai wedding doesn't cost anything. The most important is the box at the entrance where people drop their envelope. Usually people don't bring gifts, just an envelope. What is inside depends of who you invite. Your wife should know. Just multiply the number of guest by the average "envelope" and you get the budget for your wedding.

I think you're mixing up Thai/Chinese with real Thai people.

Thai people don't only invite rich people to cover the costs - that's terribly stingy, horrible practise.

I've found that the Chinese seem to invite family and colleagues as that what their life is all about - work and money.

It's not about inviting rich people to cover the cost, it's more about redistributing wealth. When you get married, your relatives and friends give you money to start your family. Later, when you're better off, you pay them back, actually you pay their kids for their own wedding and give them the same chance that was given to you when you get married.

At my village wedding a couple of years ago my wife (and her family I assume) invited as many people as they could as this increased the number of envelopes received. Though the gifts covered the food/entertainment they came nowhere near the cost of the amount of whisky the village was able to consume at 8am in the morning so I would suggest limits/control over the booze if you do it this way!

Actually she (and the whole village) were just taking the piss. :o

  12. just curious, do all thai bats carry rabies? seems to me like a bit of a stretch and I know, unlike a dog that bites you, you cant track it down and kill it and check but one would think there would be much more publicised in the general press on a regular basis about this dangerous animal?

anyways, glad to here things are working out well.

The problem is there is no cure for rabies. Once the symptoms appear, it's too late ! So don’t try to be smart, if you’ve been bitten by any animal you don’t know, just go straight to the hospital and get the shots!

not to joke about this serious topic, but if you are out and about on a friday or sat night in sukhumvit and come across a middle aged balding farang guy with whitish stuff on the corners of his mouth - do not be alarmed. he doesn't have rabies - he just lacks personal hygiene

  13. For me I think that Bangkok is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world.

It is all the glorious contradictions that make it such a great place.

You could be coming from some...well, I don't know ....

As a city of 10 million souls, if you want it, you've got all the options you have in major western cities such as London, New York and Sheffield ( :o ) along with the contrasts of the Thai/Asian cultures.

It's rather the biggest small place on the planet.

And as for the OP, well if you don't like it.........

My favourite nonsense comment, I have seen it thousand times on this board.

If you don't like George Bush, leave America.

If you don't like Thaksin, leave Thailand.

    It's closer to this one:

If you don't like Pakistan, where there are more heroin addicts than taxpayers, leave Pakistan.

People who don't like something, make the change.

As I said, pigs have no intention to improve the shit they swim in.

well he does have a point. the OP comes on here and whines about how big a dump the city is and wishes he was somewhere else, what are we supposed to say?

"You are right dave, it's terrible here and we feel just as bad as you do, whatever can we do about it" :D

  14. The suggestion that all Thai bats have or carry Rabies is nonsense. Rabies kills the animal carrying the disease just as it kills the person who catches Rabies from that animal.

However, one should always assume that a bite from a bat, dog, cat or other mammal is a Rabies exposure risk and therefore get immediate medical treatment.

Mind, Rabies is not the only risk here. Charging Bht25K for a course of treatment is ridiculous. Two cases of Rabies treatment I know of have in the last year cost less than a quarter of that amount.

Shhh GH, don't let the cat out of the bag, the doctors got a good racket going with handing out 1000 baht pills for the sniffles. :o

  15. Earlier this morning I posted about my neighbor being bit by a bat and two replies and google said to go into the hospital or seek medical attention immediately. She did, and went to the local amphor hospital, where thay said they had no anti rabies meds in stock and to go to a private hospital.

She did and they had the meds @ 25,000THB+ for complete treatment of 6 rounds of injections.

She consulted with three drs and all said the same thing 'all Thai bats have [or carry] rabies'.

Just passing this info onto anyone not to handle bats dead or alive, as their saliva can transmit the disease as well.

News to me and hopefully a warning to others.........

just curious, do all thai bats carry rabies? seems to me like a bit of a stretch and I know, unlike a dog that bites you, you cant track it down and kill it and check but one would think there would be much more publicised in the general press on a regular basis about this dangerous animal?

  16. what can I say, meetings in Blackburn of all places finished about 4, time I got back to the hotel was 530ish, pissing rain and 3 degrees....you get the picture.

anyways, my arse and chels mates are really not that nice anyway. fuc*em I say.

besides, i figure i could pull this out as required to prove that my allegience to my team is more than just hats, scarves, and photos of me beside OT.

ah you didn't miss anything, the atmosphere in there's crap anyway.

i absolutely love that i've been to more matches at old trafford than you have. :o

Firstly Stevie, that's not hard as I have never been to a match at OT. However, I did see Mick Jagger choke on an orange during an interview, does that count?
