  1. Hi Pattaya Pros:

Mrs and I are coming this weekend and staying in Naklua area.

Would like your choices for 'good quality food' in this area. Both are open to any type of food, as long as its good. Don't really want to be running across to walking street or jomtien so was wondering if there are any little gems in this part of the city.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions,

    James

For good quality Italian, head for Grappa (part of the Woodlands Resort).. A little way down Naklua Soi 20 I think, near the dolphin roundabout.. spot on and reasonably priced..

    thanks for the tip!

  3. I would be very interested in reading from men who are willing to share their experiences and willing to talk about the unique challenges of keeping a marriage alive in a place where one is surrounded by beautiful and charming thai woman. Tempted to dump your wife for a younger one? Has this already happen? Please, share your thoughts. By the way, I am a journalist working on a story on the subject. No need names, just experiences...

In general (for me at least), I got the temptations out of my system years ago prior to meeting my wife. Been happily married for over a year now and first baby on the way.

However, would guess that a farang couple moving here might experience some discomfort (especially the wife), but then again, temptation is not far away - even back home. Not unique to Thailand.

  4. Anyways, regarding this topic - it appears they have gone the cheap route for powering the trains via overhead cables unlike say the BTS.

Will this result in more breakdowns? Oops - missed my flight. Certainly will be higher maintenence.

No problem, the line uses 25kV AC overhead as it is a high speed (160kph) railway. 3rd rail 750V DC is great for low speed stop-start metros but over about 100kph can become problematic due to the high-current sliding contact. Just look at TGV, ICE, Eurostar, Shinkansen etc., all use overhead AC current collection and are very reliable :o

so the new train will compare favourably to those you mention in terms of quality, ongoing maintenence? let's see.

anyways, was talking to a GM of a hotel last night near the makasan station and he reassures me that there will be seperate direct trains (express) to / from the airport in 15 mins!!! and others that do the milk-run. Good to know.

  5. when i clean the grill it looks like the coloring (silver) is starting to come off. this happened to the last one i bought and i just tossed it out, but that was only a few months ago. so now, as its happening again, i am just wondering if maybe it is not reason to discard this one too. i am not sure if there is a health risk or what exactly is coming off.

    thanks.

toss it, no metalurgy expert by any means, but flaking-off non-stick coatings can't be good for you.

  6. pennant's off the payroll at least, preferring portsmouth to madrid and milan apparently. good riddance.

Yep, seen it confirmed on Skysports today. Seems Adams is convinced the ex Liverpool duo will be effective together (Crouchie and Pennant) Anyway good luck to the guy, he had his moments but ultimately a big let down.

Has pennant had much of run this year?

  7. winding up is generally supposed to be based on wit and intelligence, or maybe a bit of sarcasm, rather than seapok's dull and unfunny attempts. i don't really see anyone getting wound up so much as bored by him.

anyhow, pennant's off the payroll at least, preferring portsmouth to madrid and milan apparently. good riddance.

I agree with Stevie, nothing wrong with banter mixed with a bit of actual comments about the teams / matches. No need for name calling - yet. :o

  8. I have flown TG from BKK to Johannesburg regularly at least 3 times per year since flying on their inaugural three years ago, & I am a member of their FFP. Well, those wonderful people who run this showcase of the LoS have canceled this route, but it is still on their website & I have been trying for 5 days to make a booking. It would have been so much less annoying if they had sent a notice of these changes to frequent flyers, but oh no we don't count in their eyes, we are no more than all the other cattle they carry. Guess which airline will not be getting any revenue from me, but I will use every last one of my air miles. Hello Air Asia & Singapore Airlines, goodbye THAI.

While i empathise with you, there was an announcement regarding this cancellation recently in the news I believe.

  9. If they took 60% off the prices then that would make them about right. These people are very very very over priced.

I guess you pay a little more for convience of eating home.

Interesting, for those that might know are they using the Food by Phone business model or Chefsxp pricing structure?

  10. apparently robinho wanted to go back to brasil for his 25th birthday party. hughes said no and the little fella saw his arse.

starting to see why madrid let him go, perhaps sucking his thumb is an appropriate response after all.

  11. As I said in the post above! Torres hit the post, Reira inches wide and a clear penalty for Torres!

that was pretty much it and howard didn't have to save anything. a match fit torres probably would've scored the one that hit the post.

i'd like us to go back to the 4-2-3-1 formation against them on sunday.

ok here is some good news for LP fans. 2-0 on the weekend because 1)Gerrard will get off due to Policeman gets free tickets to the games and lost the evidence and 2) the team will know that if they blow it and tie again, it will be replayed and 3) no pressure of the league race - its only the FA Cup. :o

And your an idiot! now run along and go pretend you are a Man U fan. And please stop using the word tie when referring to a football game you plonker!

struck a nerve did i? read a little deeper into what I wrote before exemplifying your standout scouser stereotype. The game is not do or die - not as much pressure should you draw - meaning you will play loose - meaning you will perform better - meaning you will win.

now go take your afternoon nap little boy.

  13. back to city... this just in..

Robinho has walked out of Manchester City's training camp in Spain.

City are currently in Tenerife on a mid-season break as they are not in action this weekend due to the FA Cup.

It is believed that Robinho and Mark Hughes have had a falling out, which has seen the player walk out on the rest of the squad.

It is claimed the club's record signing is on his way back to Brazil.

If I were Hughes I would bench the little twerp for a month. Two world class trouble makers up front = moments of brilliance and days of headaches.

  14. Well maybe you don't have Thai/Chinese hi-so wife with merc and do not speak/read/write thai properly after all...

Maybe it's only me but recently it has been quite popular to publish here in TV that you can read/write/speak thai and you can even gain extra points by having thai/chinese hi-so wife and merc... :D

Anyways this is bit :o so maybe this really is my most 'embarrassed' moment in thailand :D

I dont have a merc nor can read or write thai, but I do have 35 inch waistline, i find this embarrassing

  15. I thought we played very well last night considering it was a Derby game. There is still a long way to go and we are still there!

really? i thought we were poor man, only reina and alonso turned up for work. torres was nowhere near match fit, kuyt and riera aren't in the same form they were in a couple of months ago and keane continues his anonymous act. i was disappointed with us last night.

Yes I did think we played well especially for the Derby. Obviously was gutted at the way we gave a free kick away near the box at the end that lead to the goal, and the way we defended it! Everton where up for it as expected and they played very direct football which we dealt with most of the game. I thought we looked sharp with some good passing and we were unlucky not to of won by 2-3 goals.

Devil, tell me, do you not count the Everton chances in your calculation? Great save by Reina first half, possible penalty not given. Maybe you should have shaded it but not by the margin you suggest.

  16. I am sure that most people who come on here have some connections at their own clubs :D

I doubt james has connections at United Jack. He's never even been there, so i imagine the only connection he has, is his internet connection to their web site :wai:

wrong yet again bj but getting used to it, but i forgive you given the lack of sleep you must be incurring due to little BJ in the house (mine is 5 months away :D ).

as far as connections go with UTD, we have a cdn on the team albeit injured - does that count? :D

What am i wrong about james? Have you actually been there? I thought in another thread you said you went to Manchester but didn't make it to the ground.

    Where should I begin...

    1) You believed that having the richest owner would buy you instant success

    2) should i carry on.....

Hang on, hang on. Is anyone else having trouble following this conversation. Your'e not making sense if you follow the replies in the quotes :o

As for the bit about instant success. I think you will find i have always said it would take time and you are more than welcome to trawl my posts on that subject. In fact, I never thought we would even buy a big name in this window. I have always said that next summers transfer window would be the interesting period.

stating the obvious. anyways moving forward I think you may have a chance at Kaka again in the summer if you have improved significantly over the remainder of the year, signed some decent players which might make a CLeague run a possibility next year.

Btw, according to my OT connections (and crystal ball), you heard this here first :D Jose Morinho (sp) will be the next manager of Man United at the end of 2009 / 2010 season.

  17. Director Clay used Aphichatpong's cinematographer so we get the same blurred foliage, etc as in Tropical Malady. If you like Aphichatpong films, you'll probably like Soi Cowboy

i also thought Tropical Malady was horrible... can't believe it got so many rave reviews

similar to most movies shown here, like UBC they believe if they continue to show absolute garbage and tell us that its fantastic, sooner or later we will become conditioned into believing it.

  18. Were are level with top spot anyway... Its up to Man U to throw it away.

I thought we played very well last night considering it was a Derby game. There is still a long way to go and we are still there!

Come on keep the belief :D by March 14th we will be celebrating when we have done double over them anyway!

    YNWA

If you are looking to us to choke, I suggest you look elsewhere for inspiration. Regarding March 14th, if you keep playing the way you are currently, it may be irrelevant. :o
