  1. This thread already shows the makings of a good 'un. Some much needed light-hearted relief during a time of stress and pain.

Let's keep it civil, and it'll be fun.

I'm off for a qiuck shower, but will eagerly return in five minutes, with a tiger, for some more (and much needed) 'lesson on life'.

Quick shower, how about a nice long bath or don't you like nice long baths?

And Tiger! Why not drink Chang...

If people come to Thailand and don't like nice long baths and Chang they can just bugger off.

As can newbies who still havn'e discovered outside of Bankok and feel the need to have Thai place names in their avatars to impress their mates back at the anorak factory.

I hate this thread so I suppose I better just bugger off as well.

    Bye.

PS anybody know why I encourage these trolls! Answers on a post card...

Best post of the day award, IMO.

  2. Thanks for the advice, and no I wasn't thinking of a tube job but just a normal LCD 42" versus a HD LCD.

    Normal being what?

I think you were referring to 720 vs 1080, and they are both HD, all widescreen LCD's are HD.

As to the benefits of 1080 over 720, unless you're looking at 60"+ models, you won't notice a difference, though the inputs and contrast might be better on the "higher end" 1080 models as I mentioned before.

    Cheers.

When I referred to HD, I meant HDTV capable of displaying High Definition Broadcasts in full HD. About all widescreen LCD's being HD, then why when I look at this brochure...http://www.homepro.co.th/images/power/thepower_200815.jpg, some models are full HD branded and other widescreens are not?

The 40 inch samsung on the right is widescreen yet is not branded HD.

    cheers

  3. I, personally don't like what PAD's doing. I think it's counter productive, but I believe in thiere point. DO NO LET YOUR GOVERNMET BE RUN BY PROXY! The current PM is a PUPPET for Thaksin. I see thier point, but they are goin about it the wrong way.

Thaksin was and is billionaire, before he took office. I believe he used his office to make more money. (My wife is Thai, and she says "We all know, he is corrupt, and can accept that Why can't you westerners accept that? "I believe he has a personal agenda. MAKE MORE MONEY!!!!!!!!!! He sold 51% of the Thai Port, to Singapore, for $300 million US $. ! He still retains control of 49%. I don't believe he has the country's interests at heart. Now he thinks he got a raw deal? I think he believes "He who has the most toys and money wins" If he believes in Thailand, why does he continue making money off the Tai poeple, and foriegner tax? He is seriously coruppt. No doubt about it. My wife is a firm suppoter of Thaksin. I beg to differ.

If you give me $100,000,000, in corruption, and I return 10% ($10,000,000, to your childrens schools, you will love me too. Thats what he has done. He has no right to run your country. Just my opinion.

Is this why you want to immigrate to Thailand? :o

  4. Its a win anyway... (Marseille game)

Don't know why we always take the foot of the gas when we go 1 up. Good first half though and great to have Captain fantastic back in the side!

I don't know why we always wait to go one down before putting our foot on the gas. :o Anyways, I think we can both agree it was nice to see Chelsea draw last night. Perhaps their Champions League hopes are a little to KLUZ for comfort now. :D

  5. Hey Brave, you talk about Democracy and isn't this what it is all about.

Last time I checked, we had a Democratically Elected Government (like them or not) that the PAD are trying to overthrow.

Hmmm, try that in the UK or USA, taking over Heathrow or JFK, the Parliment or White House. Their action borders on another word and it is not democracy.

I believe there are many different forms of democracy to fit each country, you cannot throw western democracy which entails western values into an Asian country which does not share the same morals and values.

This is a cycle which Thailand has had for decades and as I have stated before thus far it has avoided major conflicts and dare I say it out right civil war. So in my book this is Thai-democracy and it works. I am sorry to break it to people but if anyone thinks Thailand will ever have a democracy like the UK or US they are sorely mistaken.

Democracy is corrupt in the west, they just hide it better.

James you are annoying me lolol you are forcing me into making a statment in which I would take sides haha stop it :D

I don't know about you, but I read the constitution when it was released and if you take a moment to do so yourself, you will see that in it actions like this are not looked upon too kindly.

Annoying you, you say? I didn't start a topic such as this, one that borders on Trolling. :o

  6. Great post

    Thanks!

Honestly I feel deeply ashamed that so many expats, whosoever are condoning the deeds this bunch of and whinghing about their comfort, investment....... ah well, and condemning a "tiny minority" of very brave people who decided to take their cause for the sake of their nation to the streets, to finish this once and for all. then occupied Government House and now are occupying the Nations main international airport to force this Government out of office!

    THUMBS UP FOR THEM!

Sake of the nation or sake of their own personal interests, once there seemed to be a clear divide, now the lines have become increasing clouded. but then again, they havent shut your samui airport yet. lets wait a week.

Take 10 mins please, its beyond civil now.

  9. I cannot understand why foreigners who live here are getting so angered with the PAD and the situation they have made, if you do not like it then bugger off to the power to the gov and no one else west !

This is their country and they have a right to do what they deem necassary. This is Thailands form of democracy and it will never change because this is how the cycle works and has thus far resolved all political situations with the minimal of civilian casualties. Can you imagine what the scene would be like if this happened in a south amercian country ? I do not want to !

I feel sorry for the tourists who were simply on holiday here and especially if they have kids, are old or disabled in anyway. I have no time for expats who live here making accusations against the PAD for what they are doing. As I have said before it quite simply is none of our business and if you do not like it then do not live here.

Their are many qualities in living in Thailand but just as in life there have to be negatives to balance it out. If you do not understand the fact that this type of situation is going to present itself all to often in this country then I would back ya bags now and head home.....well not by plane hahah

Mate, its not just the foreigners on here who hate this situation, talk to the majority of working Thais in BKK and upcountry and you will see that this group has gone too far. Can't you even see the Democrats are gently doing a two step to distance themselves further from the yellow mob?

You are absolutely right, please James do not get me wrong this is a bummer of a situation for all but as someone said before, is this not what democracy is about ???...power to the people and all that ? I say let this situation run its course with no violence, it is annoying, it is disruptive and I am going to miss the biggest football match of my clubs year lolol but hey thats life right ?

Nobody is complaining about the PAD's right to demonstrate. What we are complaining about it that this latest move hurts more than anyone else, the people they proclaim to be protesting on behalf of. Take off the blinders.

  11. I work for the sound company but you should be able to get a refund from your ticket vendor.

Rock festival cancelled after seizures of airports

A rock festival concert in Bangkok is cancelled as foreign rockers and singers can not come to Thailand after anti-government protesters seized Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports.

"100 Rock Festival" is scheduled to happen on November 28 and 29 in the Thai Army stadium in Bangkok. About six foreign bands will join.

However organisers decided to cancel the event as the foreign bands could not come to Thailand following the closing of the airports.

Refund of the ticket can make at www.totalreservation.com

  12. HDready just means it doesn't have a built in tuner, meaning you need a tuner for OTA HD broadcasts which you won't get in Thailand, but it still has HD resolution.

I have not seen a 42" 4:3 LCD TV, so I think you are referring to an HDTV. 720 or 1080, they are both HD. I only choose to go with the 1080 model as it had more inputs, higher contrast, and likely a higher resale value as well and being easier to sell in the future.

Nowhere did I mention a 4:3 model, however in the settings of most LCD and Plasmas you can set this up but not sure who would want this as most are of the wide screen variety anyway. Not sure about 1080 models neccesarily having higher contrast and as far a resale value goes, LCD TVs are like computers, very poor resale value IMO.

Anyways, thanks all for the input.

  13. I remember a quote by the English TV cook, Keith Floyd.

He said if you're staying in a hotel in a strange country and wonder what the restaurant is like, to order egg and chips; if they can't cook that properly they usually can't cook anything else.

Keith Floyd is my kinda of cook, hammered all the time. A couple years back was sitting in a british pub in Phuket (green something) and the local band was playing some covers. At the end of one set I hear this guy exclaim loudly "ROCK ON". I turned around to see Mr. Floyd three sheets to the wind at the bar. :o

  15. I need to put together a quick article for the London Daily Telegraph.

Anyone like to share their views and opinions on what the current situation in Thailand will do the for short, medium and long-term tourism market - including business tourism?

Now that we've officially hit peak season, your feedback on how you found the high or shoulder season would be appreciated too.

Comments on how these protests might affect the retiree market will also be appreciated.

Those responding can choose to have their businesses mentioned in the article or not.

Responses by PM also welcome or by email. My email address is on my profile.

    Thanks

    John
