  1. We both agree that this could degenerate to a class war due to the PAD elitists and the racist bangkokonians,chinese/thai people.

Before you go branding every Bangkokian racist, you would surprised to learn that popular support for the occupier d' airport is marginal at best.

Then again, it's statements like your's above that only feed the Xenophobic mentality of those who can't think for themselves.

Anyways, enough arguing, time for beer.

  2. It occurs to me that on another day the slightest negative comment about Thailand is met with virulent denial and defense of Thailand and its people by a squad of Thailand defenders who seemingly sit on the sidelines waiting to pounce.

Where are they now that the news is worse than anything the detractors have hitherto dreamt up?

    Hiding or building their case?

Right here mate, just one thought to add, even though we are in the shi+ts right now, we are all more happier here than being where you live.

Are you allowed to discuss the saudi royal family on your websites in Riyadh??? :o

  3. Hi.

First of all (@APMann) i am NOT Thai. How you got that idea? I am in fact German, although my name is Vietnamese (long story behind that which is off topic but yes, that IS my real name). I just live here since some 8 years and live together with a Thai so i have a *little* insight, not much but a lot more than Joe Tourist.

Regarding PAD "foot soldiers" being paid, i am still hoping to see proof of that some day. I know that some "higher up" people are being paid (guards etc) but the vast majority of the "yellows" join on their own free will without any incentives (spelling..?) while it is well proven that a vast majority of the "reds" ARE in fact being paid and leave their respective rally site as soon as the payments stop and/or they filled their job description of "be there for a day".

Regarding the never-ending "vote buying" stuff, i am aware that probably all parties are doing it, yet none on such a scale as TRT/PPP. I am not talking "election promises" but the blatant cash-for-vote which was observed "live" by myself in Chiang Mai.

    @ironhut

Thaksin is directly responsible for countless deaths in this country. Also his so-called "good ideas" were no more but clever marketing - "give them a 100 Baht then have them held up at night by cops and take 200 Baht back". Now, my support for PAD was greater when they did NOT stand on trucks and firing guns into crowds, as i observed in videos. I do NOT support violent action in any form. However besieging a building or even a bloody airport is just fine as long as nobody gets hurt or killed. Should they protest in the rice fields..?? Nope, their activities NEED to hurt SOMEWHERE, otherwise it's wasted efforts. The more their activities hurt the economy, the quicker something is done - and that "something" is hopefully an unlawful government disappearing and all traces of "dear leader" Thaksin being erased for a fresh start.

    @simonsimon

I believe everybody's fine with parties buying votes - as long as this vote-buying isn't aimed at bringing the one single person back whom they want to dispose of. If PPP's goal would have been to govern the country and revv up the economy, thereby doing something useful, there would be no PAD at Suvarnabhumi right now. However from the start, PPP's single purpose was to bring Thaksin back, they don't give a rat's ass about country or economy, they work for one single person only. And TRT also only cared for those poor people whom Thaksin could exploit - offer them loans (good!) for the sole purpose of making them dependent for ever (NOT good!) It's just like giving you heroin to ease some pain, knowing you'll be addicted after first use and will for the rest of your life be paying to get it. Thaksin hasn't done ANYTHING for ANYONE other than himself. Oh, sorry, of course also for his wife, his children, his maid, his driver and his gardener in who's names all these shares were that he as prime minister wasn't allowed to hold.

Sadly, this whole situation is caused by and is revolving around one person and one person only - Thaksin. Get rid of him and problem is solved. As he's out of the country (evading the law!), get rid of his proxy IN the country (Somchai), problem also solved.

    Best regards....

    Thanh

I believe you should write to Sandra Merkel (sp) with your ideas. Perhaps she can take steps to solve the problem.

  4. Up country The Thais already own all the rich farang belongings. Who do you think owns your house?

I agree, and once the newly divided lands are set - upcountry farangs will become more valuable as one of the only lucrative sources of steady income.

You may in fact take on cult status. Smile, it's not all bad. :o

  5. logicaly,if this political problem continues, what are peoples opinions about the safety of farangs, especialy upcountry.Law and order would cease much quicker there, and i would be very wary of vigilanty groups who want rich farang property, belongings etc. This could develop into a class war and the farangs have the money up country.

any views on this for the posters

besides taking a Zanex, I think you should stop worrying about such a thing.

failing that, quickly sell everything you have upcountry and move to Cambodia.

  6. The current political divide has caused a polarization of views, with most people seeming to feel quite strongly one way or the other - one only has to read a few TV threads to see this.

How about you and your partner? Do you share the same views? If not, how do you avoid this difference of opinion coming between you? Do you just avoid bringing it up, or are you able to discuss and disagree without harbouring any bad feelings?

The only view that counts is mine (don't tell her I said that).

  7. Maybe ill give that a try next time. I always did like that combination. I was just in the mood for something meaty at that time.

I cant believe there are so many postings for so long on this pizza issue.Have you people ever heard of gordan ramsay??

MAKE YOUR BLOODY OWN FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!

Its not that hard,if you are all so freaking useless then email me and i will give you fool proof and child proof directions..and i gaurantee it will be far better and cheaper than all of the places mentioned in the last 8 pages of useless drivel.

AND by the way,the reason that the pizzas are topped with mayyo in Bangkok is because dairy (cheese) is a tad costly here...

    FOR F...S SAKE!!!

Great post, very constructive. Do you have a brother named Bendix?

For the rest of the TV members who don't have a wood fired oven in their apartment, I had Scoozi a couple of times recently and it is very good overall - on par with others of that ilk. However, for those looking for a real caesar salad, highly recommend their's.

  8. Bonobo...sorry to hear that.... My experience there last year was flawless, and I don't recall them being short of anything that time, especially turkey. And they had a very large selection of deserts (pies, puddings, cakes, etc)... I couldn't even begin to try everything that was on offer.

Was it very busy/crowded when you were there?? Last year, the day before by phone, they told me I'd have to come later like 9 pm because all their early reservations were filled. Then on Thanksgiving Day afternoon, they called me and asked if I wanted to change to come earlier, basically at their opening time. I said sure and arrived at the start. Probably for the first two hours, it was very quiet as groups/families kind of trickled in... But after 2 hours, it had pretty much filled up and people were lining up at the food tables. By then, I was already finished...

Landmark has new chefs, and a couple of young looking expat "managers / interns" running around.

  9. Hi there, as I mentioned in my earlier post, there is great little shop in JJ market that sells top quality stainless steel (heavy) cutlery in the dishes, pots and pans section, very easy to find.

The one's i picket up were 120 baht each but can negotiate a bit if you are buying large quantities. Great selection.

  10. Oh no... cant believe it, Torres is set to be out for 2-3 weeks :o

Just when he was looking sharp again. I am more concerned that this could be a long term problem (reminds me of when Owen started having hamstring problems)

A few people kept saying don't rush him back...maybe that's the problem?

    What's the problem, hamstring again?

  11. At least he was man enough to admit it. Next.

    :o

My opinion is that i feel sorry for Rooney, i personally love him..

I'm under the impression that Rooney is one of the most honest Footballers in the world however he is subjected to it ( cheating ) on such a regular basis, i hope that now he doesn't feel the need to do it himself all the time...

I suppose when you play and train with the biggest cheat in world football (Ronaldo) its just rub off on the other players! :D

I'll set em up Seapok, & you knock em down Brother... :D

nice to see such good company on this distinguished forum, as for rubbing off, yea, I don't mind if wayner is able to rub off about 20 goals from CR this year.

Wayner??? did you see that nickname on some Canadian soccer forum? hahaha

I think you better worry more about CLuzers than what I call Rooney.

  12. I have 3 HDMI inputs on the Samsung I recently purchased. 1 for xbox, 1 for computer, 1 for BD player if I ever get one. Better to have extra inputs that too few in my opinion.

Much nicer watching movies, downloaded HDTV shows, and gaming on the 360 with a larger 16x9 screen. The tube equivalent to a 40" HDTV would be huge, HEAVY, and probably difficult to find at this point.

Which series Samsung you bought and how many inches? Is it the series 5 40" one? How can you connect computer to it? Does it have resolution problems after connecting the PC? how's the computer picture on it and what resolution you get it on the LCD?

It's the LA40A550 - 5 series 40". The newer models are the 650's, but cost twice as much and are too glossy for my tastes.

You can connect your PC via HDMI or VGA with a native 1920 x 1080 resolution. I've gotten to work fine at several resolutions. The picture looks great, crystal clear. Played Transformers in 1080 from PC and it looked as good as can be expected, and I only sit about 6 feet away.

It does take me a few tries to get the picture to go full screen (it usually crops a few inches off all the edges) but that seems to be a problem only I am having, so it's likely the HDMI implementation on my Acer 5920G, or the video card, or the drivers, or...

It only cost about 30% more than the 720 version, but was worth it to me for the extra inputs and higher contrast.

I do notice a sharper picture with 1080 content, amazingly sharp, but all of my HD content is downloaded so source material would obviously look better. It might be harder to tell 720 from 1080 with a blueray player.

I am looking at the exact model you have for 36990 baht, seems to be a pretty good deal.

  14. Tried a PB Valley, Pirom Khao Yai Reserva Tempranillo 2006 (1290 THB in Villa Marked)

Rated on a scale from 1 to 6:

    Taste: 3

    Bouquet: 2

    Value for Money: 1

Well, that's disappointing. Sorry you didn't enjoy it Fun2Fun - the only complaints I've heard about this wine before were that it lacked a little in structure. I guess it's not to everyone's taste, though.

You paid way too much for that bottle! I know it doesn't help after the fact, but 800 baht is the guide price for this wine. No wonder you gave it a 1 on that front. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Villa are thieves when it comes to wine - don't trust them!

Where do you suggest to find these Fine Thai wines? I was just on the wine connection website and no sign of it.

  15. Interestingly (to me at least), my wife called our laundry guy to come pick up some stuff afterwork last night, to which he replied, "sorry I can't as I am at the protest at the airport".

To which my (Bangkokian Chinese Thai) wife replied, fine, if you dont come tomorrow night, never come back again and hung up.

Let's see where his loyalty lies tonight, his pocket or his pride.

Are we taking bets on this ? lol I will give 10-1 he is not coming back....any takers ?

    I bet u one beer.
