PM2.5 crisis first major test for Srettha’s government
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That would be a fastback to criminal defamation and, depending on how the message is delivered, violation of the Computer Act. Such is the state of Freedom of Speech in Thailand - another challenging test. -
Myanmar overtakes Afghanistan as top opium producer
Srikcir replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
And no doubt the junta will offer security for such "farming." -
If he was in any way supporting opposition to the Myanmar military junta and/or support the armed rebellion against the junta, China will view Wang as an enemy of the Chinese State. And fabricate whatever alleged crimes necessary to have Thailand deport him back to China. As Thailand supports the Myanmar junta along with China, Russia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Laos and Bangladesh, Thailand will not disclaim the Myanmar junta to preserve "political peace" in the region.

Why? "Collapsing pyramid: EV shift strikes at heart of Japan's auto sector" "One of the reasons why EVs have not sold well in Japan is because of the high popularity of hybrid vehicles, which accounted for about 40% of new passenger car sales last year. At the same time, Japanese carmakers have not yet introduced many EV models." Nov. 7, 2022 https://www.japantimes.co.jp "Why is Japan Holding Back as the World Rushes Toward Electric Cars?" "Yet in Japan, automakers and the government are questioning some of the basic assumptions propellingthe electric bandwagon. They are skeptical - at least in the short to medium term - of electric cars' potential profitability and environmental superiority." March 9, 2021 https://www.nytimes.com

Supreme Court asked to decide if Trump can be prosecuted
Srikcir replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
We really won't know if the SC will fromally hear the case until Dec. 20th. It can simply refuse to take the case further by upholding the appeal court decision. SC is not required to hear case elevated to it. -
Where to go (for the people who've been everywhere already)???
Srikcir replied to USslugga's topic in General Topics
Chumphon Chumphon is a southern Thai province on the narrow Kra Isthmus of the Malay Peninsula. It’s known for coral reefs and a long coastline dotted with beaches. In the south, the forested Phato district is home to the Phato Canal and the Heo Lom Waterfall. Cradled by the Phuket mountains, the province’s capital, Chumphon city, is a gateway to tropical islands including the popular Ko Tao, part of Surat Thani province. -

Suvarnabhumi Airport opens automated channels to foreign travellers
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
For some Thai visas (O, OA, LTR) the exit date stops the residence reporting date clock (typ. 90 days) and re-entry date resets the reporting date. Not an issue for foreign tourists. But there is international airport Fast Track exit & entry for some Thai resident visas (Elite, LTR). -

Thai PM pledges support for a “People’s Constitution”
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Out of democratic necessity there must also be a new Constitutional Court that doesn't neutralize opposition political parties. "What's the role of a Constitutional Court in a military dictatorship? On the dissolution of a Thai Raksa Chart?" Apr. 5, 2019 https://www.newmandala.org -
Wherever, don't use dice. Also playing cards might put one at risk of police intervention. "Thai Police Bust Card Game Thanks To Law That Says You Can't Possess Over 120 Cards At A Time," Feb. 5, 2016 https://www.cardplayer.com

In my case direct deposit of government pension into a US Bank account to add to my account balance. At that point they lose their "date;" they become fungible with all previous deposits saved over many years. What is subsequently wired to Thailand has no age or date of income associated with it. Until my US account is exhausted (unlikely as I use US funds from the account to pay US credit cards and automatic payments) such that a direct deposit from the government and subsequent same-year transfer to Thailand will the transfer to Thailand have a year identifier. So even more Grey.

Blow to Biden as poll shows Trump in lead for 2024 presidential election
Srikcir replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
"Given the errors in 2016 and 2020, how much should we trust polls that attempt to measure opinions on issues?" "What 2020’s Election Poll Errors Tell Us About the Accuracy of Issue Polling," by Scott Keeter, Nick Hatley, Arnold Lau and Courtney Kennedy. March 2, 2021 https://www.pewresearch.org/methods/2021/03/02/what-2020s-election-poll-errors-tell-us-about-the-accuracy-of-issue-polling/ Boiled down: there can be a lot of variances that can significantly affect polling results. So long as voters have several options to get their vote counted, a free and fair election will result. Trump doesn't want any options. Now Biden has said recently that if Trump were to drop out of the election, Biden would too. That would be a Win-Win for everyone. -
DITP Tackles Healthcare Costs in Private Hospitals
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Collaboration comes with compliance to laws. When significant profit margins are involved, "asking" will fall to deaf ears. Pass the appropriate laws. Note that the Thai government already has authority for price controls over private enterprise related to food, consumer products, farm-related products, construction materials, paper, petroleum and medicines. Also included are services such as medical services and other services of a healthcare. There is currently the Central Committee on the Prices of Goods and Services chaired by the Minister of Commerce that should be with minimal time able to review adequacy of current laws and introduce to the Cabinet any amendments or new laws to cover healthcare costs in private hospitals. -

Not just low pensions but high pensions as well. Say your pensions is 2.1 million THB equivalent per year and with tax exclusions and reductions, your foreign country's income tax rate of 20%. Under the tax treaty you can deduct foreign taxes against your country's tax liability as a credit. But your tax rate in Thailand is 30%. So you have a net tax increase ... in Thailand.

Thailand and China to Expedite Free Visa Talks
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Why didn't the Thai government not consider a quid pro quo to connect the two visa schemes? Instead Thailand seems so anxious for Chinese tourism into Thailand that it left itself without any political strength or diplomacy to get equal treatment for Thai tourists? It's like jumping into the ocean to cool off forgetting that you don't swim. -
Chinese Tourist Exposes Nana Area as Potential Danger for Women
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
In the link: "while standing in Soi Nana at around 11.30pm at night, she was approached by a foreign man. A moment ago, that man said to me: ‘How are you today?’ But I could say had he pulled me away, I would not have been able to escape." Sounds like a projected fantasy. Nothing effarious happened that would even question safety of women of any ethnicity in the Nana area. Maybe it's just Chinese culture for a young, unattached Chinese woman roaming in a wildly nightime adult entertainment area (certainly not surprising to any blogger) doesn't expect to be approached by a foreigner? Like in China that keeps close observation of foreigners. Or she is trying to appease/attract Chinese authorities recognition (financial backing?) with a fake report intended to threaten lower Chinese tourism to put diplomatic pressure on Thailand through threat of lower Chinese tourism for political purposes? Whatever the case, she appears to have violated the Computer Act that only requires potential harm to Thailand's reputation, ie., delivered through social media. -
178/187 day split to avoid tax resident status.
Srikcir replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If you qualify, get the 10-year Long Term Resident visa for 50,000 baht. No 90-day reports (only 5 year report); how will Immigration track your 180 days in Thailand? No minimum Thai bank balances required, no minimum foreign fund transfers to Thailand required. Under several categories of the visa your foreign income is tax-free, ie., Wealthy Pensioner. Comes with Fast Track airport exit and entry, free re-entries.
