Pita Cleared In First Round Of Polling Agency Enquiry Over ITV Shares
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What job? It is the constitutional duty of the Election Commission to pre-approve candidates declaring run for office BEFORE the election and the EC took no issue with Pita's candidacy for MP. Then Pita's MFP wins a surprise (only to the Prayut caretaker government?) landslide election that triggered various allegations of candidacy irregularities against Pita, reconsideration by the EC and referral to the Constitutional Court.- 51 replies

Thai House Speaker Delays Setting Final Date for Prime Minister Vote
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
All very nice thoughts but you 'put the carriage before the horse.' 100% Senators are not elected (prior to the Prayut coup it was 50% elected) but chosen by a selection committee, established by the Prayut junta under junta-written constitution that was also reserved a number of Senate seats for the military. Current junta constitution was approved by a public referendum. Regardless, a referendum itself cannot change the constitution. It comes down to who has the authority to create the election committee. Previously it was the junta NCPO that controlled the House and government. So would it be now the current caretaker government in conjunction with the current House requiring a simple majority? I've not seen any legal analysis how to overcome these constitutional barriers and wonder if PTP cares so long as it can co-op with the military/royalist. -
Special counsel to investigate President Biden's son Hunter
Srikcir replied to Social Media's topic in World News
SC is appointed by DOJ, not the POTUS. It was Deputy DOJ AG Barr who appointed Robert Mueller as SC in 2017, not POTUS Trump. DOJ Barr appointed John Durham as SC to investigate origins of FBI's look into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. The authority of the DOJ did not change with POTUS Biden. -

Customs concludes the case of counterfeit luxury watch auctions
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What Western luxury watch is made in China? I believe none, albeit some parts might be Chinese manufactured such as a casing or minor moving parts. For example Swiss Luxory watches must have final assembly in Switzerland with 60% Swiss made parts. So why would one (ie., Thai customs) use a Hong Kong representative for verification of authenticity? -

Complete diversion and fake competitiveness for a most serious failure: Thailand's exports have declined for nine consecutive months. Would Bank - Higher productivity is key to Thailand's future economic growth and prosperity (2020). But in 2023 weak demand from China, US and Europe has stalled Thailand’s exports. -

Contingency in Place for Possible Thaksin Return
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The current government tried Thaksin in absentia under a new law devised by the former junta leadership but now seems to make every effort to keep him from returning. That's FEAR. -

Convicted in absentia. Provision in the new Organic Act on Criminal Procedure for Holders of Political Positions of 2017 passed by a pro-junta Parliament that allows trials in absentia. Sounds more like a Jester court than a kangaroo court. -

Is this why among other reasons the RTP has yet to implement the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Dissapearance Act of 2022? RTP says it lacks the money, training, equipment and guidelines to implement the law. You know, like it seems with all the other laws RTP is supposed to enforce. Just as an aside, the RTP is under the supervision ofthe National Police Commission chaired by PM Prayut. -
Pheu Thai to Designate Protest Venue for Demonstrators
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
It might also pay attention to the caretaker government's delay through the RTP NOT to comply with the Anti-torture and Enforced Disappearance Act of 1922, law announced in the Royal Gazette on October 24, 2022. So I guess for now the "old rules" still prevail with RTP in dealing with public disturbances - rules an anti- democracy leadership might find effective to suppress freedom of speech. -
In a democracy you vote people out of power, not at gunpoint.

Thailand Still Wants to Develop a Major Spaceport
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There are 35 spaceports and launch facilities worldwide that can launch spacecraft or satellites into orbit or suborbit. In Asia there is Japan, South Korea, India, French Guianna. Thailand would be smarter to partner with these countries, but Prayut is all about his egotistical Thai Hub of ASEAN. What Thailand really needs is more dependable electrical power generation such as nuclear power and reduce its import of carbon-based fuels. -

It should be seen as a constitutional requirement, regardless of pay. The Constitution doesn't make Parliament voting optional. I would apply the same to abstaining on a vote as well. Breach the Constitution, the Constitutional Court should suspend the Parliament member without privileges of office.
