  1. I think the relationship is DEAD…..I wouldn’t even hold any thoughts of trying or hoping to resurrect it. Was she using drugs in England? Or did all this start after? Your daughter is a different issue. Your wife will probably think in her drug addled brain that she holds all the aces, but she does not. You do with your money. You can figure out how much you are prepared to pay to get your daughter back, and of course don’t tell her your bottom line. If she has no money her desperation will control her and her price will drop. You cannot be emotionally involved in this process, or you are doomed to lose out. you must be be cold and calculating, and show absolutely no emotion, or she will pick up on it and you will lose. Try to get the daughter into your control. A junkie will not care about anything or anybody, only money and the next fix. As for the aunt/sister….she could be part of this scam and be playing you, and the more desperate you sound the more they’ve both got you……and you do sound desperate. Good luck with the process. You might want to get a lawyer handling all the negotiations, he wouldn’t be emotionally involved and would know the game. There is a good Canadian French lawyer in Korat who has Thai partners. Somebody on here will know his name. You could have a conference call with him and learn your real options and not the ThaiVisa crowds opinions…..including me.
  2. I guess she is more important than the drunk driver who killed a police sergeant…..was his name Johnny Walker, or maybe Red Bull….it’s been so long it’s hard to remember. Feel sorry for the lady. Something fishy about the story being picked up on the beach. But I’m sure Interpol is tracking him down as we speak…..now there is a real threat to the Thai police driving around drunk mowing down cops and blaming the butler.
  3. Forget the tourists for now. Supposedly people need customers…..I went to two companies that make signs that illuminate and asked for prices on my sign needs. One said they would call me, and the other would contact me by LINE. It’s been a couple of weeks and I’ve heard nothing from either company…..what kind of way is this to do business? I’ll probably just give up on a sign. I also understand that if your sign is in English you have to pay more taxes……strange way to do business……is that like being overcharged at the parks?
  4. I don’t live in BKK. When I get a taxi there and they won’t use the meter, I find a guy who does….then when I pay him I give him a decent tip and tell him it’s because he used his meter, and I thank him. Civility costs nothing but a little class.
  5. It almost seems like they are scared of us. Any military led country is scared of everybody and anybody that might overthrow their control by gun. Look at the biggest example China, then followed by countries like Russia, Myanmar, N. Korea, Afghanistan, and that nasty piece of garbage controlling Belarus. In “my world” there would be an international UN military force who would tell these despots, you have a month to change, after that the international military will come in and either arrest you, or kill you. If your arrested you will go on trial at The Hague. The military force would only need to invade once to prove a point, then the other despots would change their system pretty quickly. I know I am dreaming….but everything starts out as a dream.
  6. I understand about noise and hotels. I use one of those online booking services for the hotel. I always read reviews of the hotel, and that has saved me a lot of grief…..like they will say, Next to nightclub and noisy, or lot of traffic noise. These reviews have helped me make the right choices on a number of occasions etc. Good luck.
  7. I’ve had a few Prius’s and it’s a great car…..many cities in the US use them as taxis getting well over 250,000 miles on the batteries/motors etc. Also had a Nissan Leaf ten years ago…..the main limitation was the range, but I believe the newer generations are much better. Charging wasn’t much of an issue because the city had free chargers up the street. When at a party would ask the host if we could plug in, and nobody said no….I think they were impressed with an all electric and they were pretty much a novelty at that point. I probably wouldn’t buy, but lease the vehicle. Electrics are the future, virtually nobody is pushing hydrogen. If in the States go to an alternative vehicle energy show….usually a local thing. Fascinating stuff, guys running their old Mercedes on used cooking oil. Others adapting their cars to run on solar energy. Some strange and intriguing people at these shows.
  8. No boots or shoes is a bit odd. If I’m hiking in jungle or mountains I want boots with good ankle support….if you’ve ever really twisted your ankle it is so painful you cannot walk. A good Garmin GPS you can put in waypoints and track back the same route. Obviously hasn’t got into difficulties before now. Hats off to the Thais who found him and rescued him…..probably saved his life.
  9. I was born in 1944 before the year you specified. Was it a better world back when I was a kid? In many ways it was a simpler and easier time. A single parent could work and create enough money for a couple of kids. When I was thirteen, through circumstances I needed to amuse myself for two weeks as the foster parents had already booked their holiday and I had no where to stay. I borrowed a bike and a rucksack, and cycled around England on my own staying at Youth Hostels. It was a wonderful experience I’ve never forgotten. I lived for a while in the Isle of Man, and would go to the TT races on my own as a kid. You couldn’t do these things today. if you check the BBC World news today online, there is a wonderful article with pics and old film of the 1950’s in Afghanistan shot by an American who worked and lived there for seven years. It was definitely the good old days compared to the Taliban nightmare today. So yes, some places it was a lot better. Also remember around 1960 there were 3 billion people on the planet, and now there is over 7 billion…..this is not an improvement with the congested traffic around the world, and congested cities. Is our electronic world an improvement? The jury is out on that one. The biggest improvement has been in healthcare, and still improving every day. The solution is just to enjoy it all, mainly because we are only here for a short time, usually less than a hundred years….just a blink in the grand scheme of things.
  10. Read what you wrote….completely illogical. That is like playing Russian roulette with a gun….I’ve done it ten times so I should be fine forever! BOOM!
  11. Depends how much you want to spend etc. We have a Suzuki Ciaz which I really enjoy with great gas consumption. Baby buggy would fit in the trunk fine. Very comfortable car with plenty of room. It sounds like you are sold on an SUV…..a bit heavy and bulky for me. I used the Suzuki dealership in Korat and they always gave great service with intelligent staff and mechanics. Good luck on the car and baby.
  12. For any farang with a Thai wife who wants a Sinovac vaccine with the second one Astra Zeneca. My wife went today to the temple in the picture based on calling the number at the bottom of the page, they said just show up, which she did and got the vaccine, we waited thirty minutes only. Not a lot of the people there, and some farang. They will be operating tomorrow Wednesday if you want your wife to get jabbed. A doctor specialist in California said get the jab, it is better than nothing and has minimal side effects. As I was waiting they asked if I wanted the vaccine, but I explained I already got one in BKK. Good luck guys.
  13. When I lived near Korat, I wound ride the bicycle to the dogs in the rice fields to feed them. The female would keep having puppies, but always two or three would just disappear. One day out feeding them alongside a six foot deep concrete monsoon ditch, I happened to glance down at movement in the water. There was around a 12 foot Python moving slowly close to the greenery along the ditch. Looked just like the one in the video. I saw one of the full grown dogs go down to drink only six feet away from the Python…..it either didn’t see it, or had no clue what it was. It explained to me where the puppies had gone…..easy meal for this guy. The locals killed it the next day.
  14. Unless you are an idiot, why would you put yourself in harms way? Lot of smart advice on here……don’t let her stay with you. I have Thai relatives want to come and stay with us from BKK. I am 77 and not a fool….I say, No. Very simple, why would I put myself in harms way? As for the hospital discharging her and she must be okay……was it a government hospital? Enough said. You don’t want to wake up In a week or so and cannot breathe and saying, “I wish I’d been smarter.” Spend the money.
  15. This is not about Pfizer but relates to side effects, and about Moderna. A good friend of mine in California had the Moderna and had horrible side effects and had to be hospitalized twice. It wasn’t some random thing, it was because she had suffered “auto immune issues” in her life and you DON’T take Moderna if that’s happened to you. Her experiences included vertigo, sometimes all day, nausea, generally feeling like <deleted> with pains in her neck and back. Unfortunately she had no knowledge that she shouldn’t have received the Moderna vaccine. So this is just information for those of you out there waiting on Moderna.
  16. If you know this guy, please let him know. This came to me by mistake.
  17. Yes. The Martians will just bypass the earth with its Covid issues. They didn’t shop much anyway.
  18. An American infectious disease doctor friend told me this week that Sinovac is better than nothing, and has very few side effects. So you don’t pay your money, and makes your choice. Good luck.
  19. I get more money each month than the 1,360 dollars he gets, and I cannot afford the oil changes on my Ferrari, Porsche, Mini, etc. and not to mention the upkeep on my large swimming pool……and I swear on my amulet this is true!
  20. How stupid must you be to commit murder with video cameras operating? Answer: Really stupid. Makes one wonder how many times this was done before.
  21. “A bit over the top.” This is murder combined with torture…..what are you looking at?
  22. We were not in full closure….talked with friends in Nakhon Sawan and restaurants there have always been open. I think it is just the Red Zones that are closed….frustrating.
  23. Similar story….registered in three different places not expecting much. Got a text message on a Saturday telling me this Samitivej Hospital on Monday between 9-11 or 1-3pm. Drove up from Pattaya and got there at noon, no traffic, walked in and was taken care of immediately with Pfizer…..second on the 12th September. I would register anywhere you can…..you maybe surprised. Good luck people.
