At least 20 people killed in mass shooting in Thailand: Police
Peterw42 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Apparently the shooter was recently sacked from police, yabba related, and was due to face court tomorrow for the yabba. -
I suppose if a story is devoid of actual details (as this one is), people will embellish, exaggerate and make up there own narrative. HAVE A LOOK AT THE PHOTO IN THE OP, its obvious the children have been reunited with there parents. The children have not been abandoned, they are not now living in an orphanage. The parents are not drunk, or arrested. I dare say this is nothing more than a misunderstanding, both parents probably wandered off thinking the other parent was looking after the kids, or something similar.

The short answer is no, a website cannot turn off your wifi. A more likely explanation would be you have accidently hit the button in your pocket or similar. Think about it, if an sms message is trying to get you to go to a website, so they can scam you, sell you something etc, the last thing they would want is no internet, so you cant get to the site.

In major reversal, Elon Musk again proposes buying Twitter at full price
Peterw42 replied to Scott's topic in World News
Something doesnt add up when it comes to Elon Musk. He has made a car that's better than Detroit, Tokyo, Stuttgart. He has made an electric motor better than Siemens, AEG, General electric. A battery that's better than Panasonic, LG, Samsung. A rocket ship that's better than NASA. One of these achievements, I would buy into. But all of them makes me think its more to do with marketing himself. -
Chiang Mai residents jump to it! Frogs on the menu at noodle stall
Peterw42 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
I don't get what the story is, frogs are sold and eaten all over Thailand. I'm in Pattaya and the local wet market sells frogs. -
Also, a passport doesn't contain your address. People still dont get it. There are two separate systems, one uses a foreign travel document with your name in a foreign language with a number that doesn't fit into Thai databases, as your ID, and it doesn't contain your address OR an actual Thai ID that has your name in Thai, a Thai ID number in the format that fits into thai databases, AND contains your address.

I have 2 accounts opened and operated with pink ID, The account name is in Thai script, as per the pink ID. (i cant actually use a passport to operate these accounts, its in a different language.) Im not lying or wishful thinking. Maybe dont post misinformation on things you obviously know nothing about.

Thai Central Bank is buying the Baht
Peterw42 replied to Adumbration's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Maybe I am a bit slow. How can Thailand spend USD, its foreign reserve, and somehow magically increase its foreign reserve. If you buy baht, you dont have more foriegn currency/reserve, you have more baht. As others have asked, where does the USD come from. Its called Foreign exchange reserves because its assets held on reserve by a central bank in foreign currencies. Spend the foreign currency, and its gone -
Face masks still mandatory on public transport, cinemas in Thailand
Peterw42 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They live here. I was mostly trying to point out that it is still spreading. I know more people with covid now, than at the height of the shutdowns. -

Peterw42 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I imagine those same tourists would be pretty disappointed if they end up in bed with covid on their holidays, that they caught on crowded public transport. I have friends at the moment, out of action, with covid they contracted in Thailand. -
Buy mobile sim Aus for Thai phone calls
Peterw42 replied to bluejets's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
You wont be able to get a Thai sim in Australia. Why the need to buy beforehand ? Get to your destination and go to the local mall or 7/11 and get one. If you do have a need for internet and calls on arrival (and there is no wifi), just use an oz sim on roaming, they all sell addon roaming data/call packages, $10 a day or similar. -
I dont know that you can make such a broad statement. I have a friend who opened a Bangkok bank account last week, on a tourist visa, no agent. The main pattaya branch in 2nd rd. He took a thai person with him, who was an existing BB customer for reference

These loan shark things are not loans, its more like rental of some money. the payments are not servicing the debt. You agree to X amount of monthly payments to rent the money for X amount of months. At the end, presuming you made all the payments, you either repay the money, or re-rent the money. There is no duration of the loan as such. The closest banking equivalent would be an interest only loan

Im pretty sure if you looked up "sois that have not recovered from Covid" in the dictionary, it has a photo of Soi welcome.

exempt to Non-O retirement in Pattaya
Peterw42 replied to L0St's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thats the trouble with lists, there is often the generic list and a local office variation. Its worth going to the office and asking directly, they often have a local list, or are happy to advise what they want. Im pretty sure, at the moment, Jomtien doesn't want a map for NON-0 or retire extension. -

Peterw42 replied to L0St's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
A map isn't usually required for a retire extension . Its a requirement for a marriage extension as they visit you, and it must be hand drawn. -

OP, I think Jomtien still has a hand out that lists the documents etc. As others have said, start by getting a bank account and the funds in place, Go to a copy shop and get multiple copies of all your documents, PP photos etc (if you think they may ask for it, have it copied and ready). Then present at immigration, they will soon tell you whats missing. It may take a couple of visits, one to get a list, another to find out what you are missing etc. -
Nowadays, in Bangkok, the ordinary Thai way of life is a house/townhouse in a gated moobaan and grab delivers their food. Often not visible, unless you visit someone. Usually close by there will be a cluster of shops, usually centered around the local wet market, temple. Also not far away will be a mall of some description housing Big C, Lotus etc. These areas exist a couple of kilometers from the tourist areas and are probably 90 % of Bangkok (you can see it out the plane window as you fly in). The local wet market is still probably the best reflection of ordinary Thai life.
