  1. No, it's a classic signal of Thai overreaction. The Thais are punishing foreigners for the misbehavior of foreigners. The foreigners in Pai just happen to be Jewish in this instance. "....Police General Kitrat Panphet, has directed police forces across the nation to heighten surveillance of foreign nationals amid escalating concerns over public order and safety. This new measure, announced on 17 February, stems from reports of foreign visitors’ conduct that disrupts social harmony, violates public morals, and potentially damages Thailand's reputation. and "The move follows troubling incidents, notably in Pai, Mae Hong Son, where local businesses recently refused service to Israeli nationals. This decision arose after reports of inappropriate behaviour by some Israeli tourists, who allegedly verbally abused medical staff and threatened property damage at a local hospital. Adding to the concern, a Facebook video depicting intoxicated foreigners harassing female restaurant owners went viral, fanning online safety fears."
  2. Much like I don't appreciate that you have to be spoon fed information that is readily available with little effort. You even quoted Mike Lister's post that had the link to the Thai person income tax guide that you didn't bother to read, lol. Oh, and you're welcome.
  3. Money that is remitted to Thailand derived solely from savings accrued prior to 1 Jan 2024 is non-assessable. Had you read a couple of the tax threads on AN, you'd have found that mentioned often and very often.
  4. Not what the story said but you can make up whatever you want on the internet, apparently, so go right ahead. If you actually read the story, it states two basic concerns: a. Illegal work/overstays b. Concern for the safety of the facility as many Jewish facilities are targets for violence/terror activities. On a side note, if a select few of the Israeli tourists in Pai didn't act like complete jerks there probably would be no issues raised at all. I supposed that's anti-semitic too....?
  5. As someone who stumbled onto this and doesn't really care either way, is it not conceivable that while this Pelzman guy was writing/researching his paper, he had discussed it with others? I doubt he was locked into a secure facility while working - quite possible others knew about it and talked about it, the Jared puppet included. So what? Mountain, molehill, etc. The things people argue about on the internet, lol.
  6. Legal weed, hookers, round the clock drinking, casinos....next up, Elvis impersonators.
  7. The Cars actually had two lead vocalists and it can be difficult to tell which is singing. Ric Ocasek is generally promoted as lead vocalist but a surprising number of their better known songs were sung by Benjamin Orr. (For example: I always thought Ocasek was vocalist on "It's All I Can Do".....nope.)
  8. Steve Martin while performing the Saturday Night LIve 50th anniversary show monologue: "I can't believe I even made it here in time. It was only a few days ago that Lorne told me I was doing the monologue, and I was actually vacationing on a friend's boat down in the Gulf of Steve Martin." Regardless of politics, that's a funny line. (Cue the "I stopped watching SNL..... comments.)
  9. Oh sure, make jokes. But you know what they're going to do with that "certain" information? They're gonna do....do...something with that information. And that something could be the beginning of another thing. Are you saying that can't happen?
  10. There is one tax code. It applies equally to all tax residents, regardless of nationality.
  11. Airport security is quite variable worldwide and that includes Thailand. You got lucky at CNX; a "normal" can of shaving cream exceeds the 100ml cream/liquid/gel maximum. It would be seized in most airports, IME. Conversely, whenever I fly through Bangkok, my cigar cutter is allowed in my carry-on. I had one seized at Chiang Mai, despite the fact that "technically" they are permitted. Apparently, I could have used it to cut off the pilot's ding dong when I was threatening the safety of the plane.
  12. You're fat, wear women's make-up, are in your 70's, and are still trying to perform on stage for The Cure. Of course people are ridiculing you.
  13. Yes, especially senior Indians, Russians, and Chinese.
  14. No problem. I don't want to live in an RV anyway. Way too cramped plus the hassle of waste disposal and electrical hook-ups.
  15. Google the term "Common Reporting Standard (CRS)".
  16. Are you kidding? Without the tax threads - and the massive participation therein - this website would have gone out of business long ago. I mean, I guess we could come up with some other topic to frighten the Western geriatrics, like a massive tariff on adult diapers or a permanent ban on alcohol.
  17. Nobel prize, Dexx. This is indisputably "spot on".
  18. I realize this is an absolutely crazy idea but....shouldn't the countries of Europe defend against aggression toward the other countries of Europe?
  19. It's 65K THB foreign transfer (monthly) into your Thai bank account. Nothing has changed regarding that. Whether that is taxable or not depends upon the type of funds you are remitting - if the funds are assessable income, they are taxable in Thailand. If they are non-assessable funds, they are not taxable in Thailand. Since Immigration rules are not aligned with TRD rules - and vice versa - the "starting threshold" for tax is determined by TRD.
  20. Presumably, then, your accountant filed a Thai tax return showing zero assessable income and thus zero tax owed?
  21. If he's transferring savings that's he's had prior to 1 Jan 2024, he will not be obligated to pay tax on it.
  22. True. We have, however, seen that the TRD officers in the Hua Hin/PKK region are attempting to levy tax against non-assessable income, e.g., US Social Security. That's a bit unsettling.

  24. Airbnb. We stayed in a small but comfortable studio (with balcony) in central HH, 5 mins walk from the night market and about 10-15 mins walk to the beach. Kitchen, pool, small (not very good) gym. It cost approx 700 THB/night. Room had aircon, bathrobes, cooking utensils, kettle, coffee, laundry on site. PM me if you want the listing where we stayed (disclaimer: this is not an advert. I am not the owner of the place I'm describing nor am I a property agent. I stayed there for three weeks to get away from Chiang Mai pollution last year.)
