  1. Pretty good article, read it mostly because I respect Forbes as a credible source of information. No doubt that Musk and Co. are exaggerating some things to justify their efforts. That said, and at the risk of being branded a "Trumpist" or a "MAGA", the author really tapdances on some of his points. One example: "Did Usaid Spend $6 Million On ‘tourism In Egypt?’ No. USAID announced a $6 million payment to Egypt to “increase educational opportunities and strengthen the livelihoods of the people of North Sinai”—not to fund tourism, as the White House claimed." Might not say "tourism" exactly but if tourism "increase educational opportunities and strengthens the livelihoods..." then it's six of one and half dozen of another. Some good points in the article, some not so good points. Like most articles. (I did note that the author was the magazine's "news reporter covering entertainment trends". Odd topic for him, though Trump is so "everywhere" that perhaps he's considered entertainment now.)
  2. I don't follow soccer much but I think this is what's commonly referred to as an "own goal."
  3. Just rated #1 by airlineratings.com (https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/09/travel/worlds-best-airline-2025-airlineratings/index.html) Back on topic, Qatar business class is fantastic and the lounge in Doha is quite nice. EVA, Singapore, Asiana, JAL, ANA - all still really good, IME. Really depends upon the route you want to take and the respective departure/arrival times you desire. (Pro tip: if you stop in Japan, make sure there's not a "change of airport" in the itinerary because you will be required to get yourself from NRT to HND or vice versa.) Concur with the poster who said avoid Philippine Airlines.
  4. Again, you are operating under a giant misconception. You are required to file only if your assessable income exceeds a certain threshold. But hey, do what you want, think what you want, pay whatever you want.
  5. Report income earned abroad? To the Thai tax authorities? Put down the bong, sir.
  6. No, I do not. That limit in my country is $14,600 or so.
  7. No, you are not. You are only required to file if your assessable income is over a certain threshold. If you have zero assessable income, no need to file.
  8. Why in the world would you go to the office when you already know your Social Security is not taxable?
  9. That clapping and cheering you hear is when you are leaving the place.
  10. Due to the USA/Thailand double tax agreement, US Social Security is classified as non-assessable income - meaning it can only be taxed by the United States.
  11. If you order a cafe latte, you should get one shot of espresso.....but the remainder of the cup should be filled with the steamed milk, light foam. It appears they made a cappuccino instead of a latte - which is still only one shot of espresso but much more foamed milk than a latte. That's pretty standard anywhere unless you order a double shot.
  12. Oh look, a guy with six whole posts using his "burner account" to troll the forum.
  13. The answers to your questions are here: https://aseannow.com/topic/1324294-introduction-to-personal-income-tax-in-thailand/
  14. I guess OP never saw failed Prime Minister Prayuth's solution to air pollution in Chiang Mai:
  15. Not everyone must file to be in compliance with Thai tax law. Jail time, lol.
  16. From Eurobank's FAQs regarding CRS reporting: "The minimum information that financial institutions are obliged to report to the tax authorities regarding holders of a reportable account are: Full name Address Tax identification number (TIN) Tax residency Account number Balance or value of the account at the end of the relevant calendar year or other corresponding period Any interest or other payments deposited into the account" https://www.eurobank.gr/en/faqs-common-reporting-standard-crs#:~:text=Information included in the CRS&text=Tax identification number (TIN),year or other corresponding period
  17. limousine.in.th Offers fast track (and car service at a cheaper price than AOT.) I've used them often. Golf cart service from the gate is also available.
  18. It's been posted before but CRS reports year end account balances (along with name, account number.) That's it. It doesn't (in general) report individual transactions unless specifically requested or somehow otherwise flagged.
  19. Contrary to what some would have you believe, the actual Thai tax code does not say everyone must get a TIN. It says one should apply for a TIN within 60 days of deriving assessable income. Ergo, no assessable income means you don't need a TIN. Here's the actual Thai tax code, not some stupid YouTube idiot: https://www.rd.go.th/english/21987.html
  20. Stay right there.....one of the fantasy scenario fiction writers will be along to explain how the "note from Mom" system is going to work. "Oh, it's all so simple", until employees working at TRD actually have to perform more work for no reason whatsoever. That will go over well, I'm certain.
  21. Undoubtedly banged the producer to get the part. Maybe she wore a mask in the movie or one of those cowboy kerchiefs over her nose and mouth.
  22. I will preface this by saying I know zip, zilch, nada about German pensions and DTAs. That said, the major disconnect (based solely upon what's written in your post) appears to be article 18-2, where it states "... pensions and other payments for past employment as well as annuities paid out of funds created by a Contracting State (Germany) ... shall be exempt from Tax in the other Contracting State (Thailand)." Earlier in the post you mentioned you have a small German "state pension"....is that an old age pension that is available to everyone, by chance? If so, perhaps article 18-2 is to be taken literally in that pensions and other payments for past employment is germane. In other words, if your state pension isn't directly connected to employment then article 18-2 doesn't apply. If that's the case, then it appears the DTA and the letter you received would be in agreement. If not, then pursue another avenue, I suppose. Good luck.
