Thaksin Unfazed by Impeachment Case Against PM Srettha
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So here's what the PM cites as his accomplishments during the first year - not all of it is true but he does have a couple of achievements to his administration's credit: 1. Increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FALSE) 2. Improved agricultural prices (possibly TRUE due to inflation) 3. A moratorium on farmers' debts (TRUE) 4. An enhanced education quality for children (FALSE) 5. Increase in the daily minimum wage (possibly TRUE) 6. Law that allows same sex marriage (TRUE) 7. Upgrades to the 30 baht health care program (possibly TRUE) 8. Intensified drug suppression efforts (partially TRUE) ** - fact checks in parentheses are my based upon my(admittedly) limited knowledge and opinions of these programs. https://aseannow.com/topic/1332130-pm-srettha-highlights-key-achievements-in-first-year-of-office/ -
Thaksin Unfazed by Impeachment Case Against PM Srettha
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
With all of the feline analogies in this thread, you'd think someone would have made a joke about pussy by now. I'm not going to be the one, that's just childish. -
AFAIK, VAT has always been charged on imported goods exceeding 1500 THB. Starting on 19 July and continuing through 31 December 2024, the government is also collecting VAT on imported goods with a value of 1-1500 THB. The "official" explanation is to combat competition from cheap imported Chinese goods. (Side note: I'd rather the company collect the VAT on my behalf than make a trip to the Post Office or DHL or wherever.)

High hopes: Anutin’s green light for cannabis bill in Thailand
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Poster rethaired said "We'd like to know".....sounds like weed like to know. Cannabis is colloquially known as weed. -
Oh no. Place is completely deserted, looks like the set of a zombie movie.

Digital Wallet Scheme to Boost Thai Economy by "Whirlwinds"
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"Trying to stimulate the economy with this digital wallet is a bit like trying to boost the new car industry by purchasing stealing a dozen cars." Fixed that for you. -
Is Anutin Thailand's Prospective Next Prime Minister?
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
All of which are attributes that make him the perfect candidate for PM of this country. -
Paracetamol and ibuprofen taken simultaneously. Not recommended for any sort of long term use but for a one-off pain episode it works quite well. (Recommended to me by my oral surgeon.)

Thai PM Launches Project to Transform Thailand into Financial Hub
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly. Right now Thailand is the hub of: a. Corruption b. Overregulation c. Political instability d. Human trafficking e. No legal recourse Hardly a menu of attributes that one would ascribe to a desirable "financial hub". -
Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yeah, that's the thing about this - and perhaps it's already been mentioned but I'm not reading 10 pages of whining posters - but one doesn't have to change. If you like what you have, keep it. Nothing says you have to change anything. 1900 THB per year for an extension is a bargain. I'll be keeping that. -
ATM fees or Pay tax
TheAppletons replied to EVENKEEL's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I'll play along, if only for the benefit of those who can't quite understand that in this hypothetical situation one either pays taxes or pays ATM fees of 12K THB. (Obviously, there are no fee credit cards and ATM fee rebate cards but they aren't in the scenario as described.) Given those two choices - and only those two choices - I'd pay the tax. It limits your total outlay to 12K THB. If you take the ATM fee choice, you pay the same 12K THB but leave yourself open to the tax man to audit you at a later date, potentially resulting in a tax payment and possible fines/interest on top of the 12K ATM fees. -
Thai AirAsia Seeks Government Aid Amidst Falling Travel Demand
TheAppletons replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
AirAsia should raise prices. The least expensive airline I've ever flown, if one has the wherewithal to actually plan travel. Flying KUL-BKK in a lie flat seat for 520 THB next week. That includes fast track immigration in KUL, 40 kg of checked bags, 14 kg of carry-on, and priority boarding. Doesn't get much better than that. -
Thai Finance Ministry pledges market confidence amid scandal
TheAppletons replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
You must be new here. The entire point of taxing foreigners is so that there is more money for the crooked politicians to steal. Nothing to do with the Thai economy. -
Bolt is my ride share app of choice. Usually much cheaper than Grab and I haven't encountered (many) shenanigans. (InDrive is okay, I've never booked via Maxim though I've had Bolt drivers show up in cars with the Maxim logo on the side.)

Re-Entry permits
TheAppletons replied to Lacessit's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Basically, yes. It's valid until it is used (presuming we're talking about a single re-entry permit) and will expire at the end of the current permission to stay if not used. -
