  1. On the contrary, I bought my Bangkok condo in 2009 when it was just completed. It has given me stability and comfort and convenience and it truly is my home when in Thailand. Just 4 BTS stops from Siam Paragon, I paid 6 million Baht. Two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, balcony and 78 Sq metres. The low rise building has great, friendly, helpful management and staff. The rooftop pool in the late afternoons or early mornings is delightful. The building is well maintained and I attend the co-owner AGMs. I have my own art, decorations and everything as I like it. No landlord is going to tell me to leave or increase the rent excessivley. If I had to do it again, I would buy! I didn't buy as a financial investment, I bought it as an investment in life. If I had been renting, it would have cost me 3,600,000 Baht in rent already and nothing to show for it.
  2. Follow the money! Always a sure fire way of finding out what is going on. I expect that there is some sort of financial incentive for the criminally convicted former fugitive parolee Taksin conducting this excursion to meet the Burmese resistance. He aint doing it for the good of either country. Only to line his, or his buddies, pockets. Maybe, just maybe, to solidify some sort of future power, but money is the best guess. Ka-ching!
  3. A well known "real estate agent" in Hua Hin is Miss Jira. She seems to know the market well. She has a YouTube channel too. Please let us know how you get on - with Jira, or any other agent. Her channel: https://www.youtube.com/@jirapropertythailand
  4. Won't be surprised to read soon of mysterious electric bus fires in Phuket. Blame will be on the EV technology for sure...
  5. Another junket for the ambassador funded by British taxpayers. No mention above of any outcomes or agreements.
  6. Nice job. Probably no need for AI Art to capture these scenes. Just heading out with a camera onto Thailand's streets would get the same shots in real life 🙂
  7. So the Mai Khao Beach will be blocked and developed into an airport facility for seaplanes? ...and Ko Lipe will be over run with yet more tourism.
  8. Take a tent. Seems to be very popular as a form of housing in the USA these days.
  9. I saw the video too of the Akara Sky Hanuman Bar. I've named it because I'm not afraid and am doing nothing wrong. The bar/restaurant looks like a nice place for sunset drinks and dinner (at a price). Will likely be full of Thai HiSos and Instagrammers and expense account executives. Any place that is cashless doesn't get my business unless I'm desperate for something. Video below.
  10. Sorry, I wasn't clear. My divorce financial settlement was done in the UK where we both live. Also, it was a complicated division of multiple assets so she didn't get 50% of the value in cash as she kept 100% of other asets.
  11. I went to Yangon, Myanmar in March 2023. There were four modern ATMs in the airport arrivals. Not one of them would accept my Wise card (suspect woke Wise are embargoeing/sanctioning the country - although my UK MBNA credit card worked fine in Yangon bars/restaurants). My Thai Kasikornbank card worked fine in the first ATM I tried. I also used a Kasikoenbank card successfully at an ATM in Dawei in 2016. I don't see why you would have any issue at all in Cambodia with a Kasikornbank card. Always good to have several cards just in case of issues though.
  12. Correct. When I acquired my Thai ex-wife's 50% of our Bangkok condo on divorce, I had to remit from overseas an amount of 50% of the agreed value in order to get her name taken off the chanote (it was in both our names). The land office will want to see the foreign funds remittance receipt. Once title was transferred to my name only, the funds were sent back to the UK by my lawyer. Very lucky that I was able to access sufficent funds.
  13. Flew Thai in Business a few weeks ago. Was checked in, through security and immigration and in the lounge in less than 10 minutes. FWIW: The Singapore Krisflyer lounge has much nicer staff, food and drinks than the Thai lounge.
  14. In 2019 my GF and I had a well "dug" in rural Buriram. The well diggers were a family team and they arrived with a pick-up truck with what looked like an oil well drill on the back. They set it up, performed a ceremony - with Lao Khao - Rice whiskey - and beer - and then started to dig/drill. It seemed that they drilled to about 100 metres in a few hours. Water was plentifull and flowed clear within minutes. The picture with the concrete rings is a base with the pump on top. The blue pipes are the well feed and return pipes. We were very pleased with the results. Can't remember the cost but it was not outrageous (or would not have done it). 20191116_091343.mp4
  15. Exactly, when I go to a bar it is for a drink and some company. That's either going to be with a girl or a chat with a fellow farang and maybe a laugh or two. If the OP cannot handle social situations then maybe he's better off in his room or sitting on his balcony (if he has one).
  16. Although I can't answer the question, I suspect you will definitely need a 1 year visa/extension of stay. Of course, agents can get you a Bangkok Bank account on a tourist visa but it appears that you don't want that. You do NOT have to have a Thai Bank account to purchase a condo. You will need to remit funds from overseas and these can go to your lawyer's client account (this is what I did, twice, despite having two Kbank accounts). Be sure to send at least the cost of the condo and it must be sent in foreign currency and the purpose of funds transfer must be stated to satisfy the Land Department for title transfer. You can then try to obtain an account at another bank once you have your condo chanote in your name and a long term visa.
  17. I was going by the video where it appeared that he hit something in the road. "The tyre suddenly burst" statement is impossible to verify. More likely, the deflated rear tyre was part of the wreck. I've driven about 2 million miles in my driving career. Never had a tyre "suddenly burst". Especially these days with modern tyre construction. When seeing a truck with a burst tyre, they are normally shredded. The tyres on the truck are not shredded.
  18. Appeared to me that he wasn't paying proper attention to the road, hit something and lost control. RIP.
  19. Even if she got British citizenship (she won't) then the UK has a mechanism for dealing with, and seizing "unexplained" or ill gotten wealth. This was used against the wife of a central asian country's corrupt banker. UK Unexplained wealth order info
  20. Both Visa and Mastercard have cross-border transaction fees or different interregional interchange rates. This is correct. I have a merchant account for my business that accepts Visa/Mastercard/AmEx. Fees for local cards are 1.2%. The international fees for accepting foreign cards are 2.75 to 3%. AmEx is 1.9% for all cards.
  21. No big deal. Cash is king and should remain so! Truth is more likely that True Money don't want to pay the interchange fees for accepting funding from foreign payment cards (Visa/Mastercard) which could easily be up to 3% or even more. Probably a simple financial decision.
  22. Since covid started, I have always called the Thai airways Bangkok number to book, rebook and change flights. Never, even during the worst of covid shutdowns, was there a problem getting through or getting the expected service. Since then, they have closed most other offices worldwide - for walkins - at least. +66 2 356 1111. Using Skype, calls are very cheap (or even included on monthly plans).
  23. Exactly what a mate's missus (60yrs old) does about 3-4 times a year. He goes to Bangkok/Pattaya. Happy days for him. No issues at all.
  24. Rumour is that the Thai launch location for the cross border QR payments by Indians will be at the Coconut Bar on beach road in Pattaya. Only in the nights after dark. No discounts or haggling allowed though.
  25. Samsung A54 (or the new A55) is really good phone a these specs. Both are 5G and not too expensive like their flagship S24. All good phones in my experience.
