  1. Less than normal. Should have more holidays.... Still a tragedy for all invloved. According to the most recent data collected by the World Health Organization to 2021, Thailand ranked 16th out of 175 countries in road fatalities per 100,000 population, at 25.4. That same year, the WHO recorded 18,218 road traffic deaths in the country, an average of 50 per day.Jan 2, 2568 BE
  2. I was thinking about how to avoid dying, alone in my condo. If suspecting a sudden onset of say; heart attack or stroke, assuming I could use the phone, what emergency number is it best to call for an urgent ambulance or medical assistance? Should I register with the nearest hospital (only about 750 metres away)?
  3. I flew Thai TG916 BKK to LHR on 22nd March. Was booked in economy but got upgraded to business at the gate due to the cancellation day before due to fire closure of LHR. Never ever been upgraded for free on Thai (normally upgrade with mileage). The service and food was excellent on this totally full flight (older 777-300ER) that departs Bangkok about 13:00hrs and arrives in London about 19:00hrs same-day. Returning on Thai TG911 LHR to BKK on 29th March, I was in economy. This was one of the three newer 777-300ERs that have the first class seats. Again, service from Thai, even in economy was excellent. No complaints from any of the people seated nearby. TG911 is the better Thai flight, in my opinion, as it departs 11:50am and arrives in Bangkok around 06:00am which suits me. Food was excellent for economy (2 meals) and entertainment OK as this plane has the new system - bring your own headphones for better sound. Big and clean toilets. Thai still Smooth as Silk in my opinion. I'll add some pictures of business class food below (it was actually too much food). Now serving caviar (at least on BKK-LHR). I'm flying Thai business again to London next week and totally looking forward to the flight.
  4. Not surprising. Thais are savvy when it comes to pricing. No mention of what the inflated prices were though - likely considerably higher. I bet if the prices were lower, they'd have sold out the flights in minutes!
  5. They tried this on with my Cambodian GF again this week (as they always do), at a Thai/Cambodia land border. She stands her ground politely speaking fluent Thai and Khmer, telling these chancers she already has a Thai visa with re-entry permit (as we often travel by air). They always relent and wave her through with no charge. Other's fall for the scam and pay the requested fee - 100-200 Baht apparently - for whatever supposed "service" they don't provide. Although, she did tell me that the requirement for re-entry permit can be waived - for a fee - when it appears that there is an exemption.
  6. I flew on Thai 787-8 from Bangkok to London in August 2022. 6 seats across in "business" class 2-2-2 - terrible! Economy was very cramped and narrow aisles with 3-3-3 seating. Hope you can enjoy that if they do same on the new orders.
  7. Don't be so sure. I've already had a U.S. traveller cancel their whole UK and European trip. Citing Trump and the effects of the tariffs on the currency and stock markets. So far, only the one cancellation for us. Thankfully, most of our bookings for this year are already paid. Depending on how things go with the tariffs, next year could be a different story.
  8. He died, even with medical intervention. Very sad for his girl, family and friends. 22yrs way too young. RIP.
  9. Reassuring that there are steel and concrete professionals in this forum. Maybe they could volunteer to assist the Thai government. No need for an investigation really. We have all seen the films of other Bangkok buildings (not built by Chinese Railway Company No. 10) swaying in the air that did not collapse or kill people. The collapsed building was clearly substandard and the constructor MUST be held to account - despite trying to remove documentary evidence from the death zone (as if any evidence was needed). How many Thai government workers will now not feel safe going to work in government offices!
  10. Can't say I like him, but he challenges people and their thoughts. He may well have persuaded the ladies into his bed and they may have regretted it later. I've been persuaded to take ladies home, but, despite everything, I have never called it abuse later. Let's see how the court cases against Russell Brand go. Innocent until proven guilty under law - but guilty in the court of social and main stream media these days. Let's see. The Tate brothers up next?
  11. The pickup driver appeared to get attacked, not be cause of the crash, but due to his outrageous assault against the injured young motorcyclist.
  12. Places I do truly love to visit: Mae Hong Son Chiang Dao Ban Rak Thai Songkla Nakhon Si Thammarat Khao Sok Phu Chi Faa Arunothai Chumpon Pak Meng Beach (Trang)

  14. I've been trying to contact Thai Airways contact centre (02 356 1111) since sunday. Their phone for "new booking" and "change booking" has a message simply saying "not available - obtain service online". Well, the service I need cannot be changed online (I logged into my booking and tried). Has anyone here been able to contact Thai Airways by phone since the earthquake? One would think that they'd have contingency in place such as alternative offices or work from home. This must be causing them lost sales.
  15. So sad for the Burmese people. Thoughts and prayers with them. I hope they get whatever assistance they need. Could be a few reasons that USA have not been seen to be involved in immediate assistance in Myanmar: 1) China and Myanmar (Burma) are next door to each other with a common border so proximaty and access are a big factor. USA is far away. 2) China and Myanmar (Burma) have close relations diplomatically and tradewise 3) USA has sanctions againt the Myanmar (Burma) ruling junta - that will not ease any aid access by Americans The OP seems like another easy attack on USA.
  16. Seeing this topic reminded me I needed to transfer some money. I just made two transfers with Wise from GBP to THB into mine and my GF's Thai accounts (Bangkok Bank and Kbank). One took 14 seconds, the other took 15 seconds.
  17. I never heard of the Tate brothers until their arrest in Romania. Never watched anything before that. Quite clear the the UK authorities don't like him. Andrew seems to talk a lot of sense, but also, he's got a lot of accusations against him. The MSM hate him by the look of it. "Toxic Masculinity" is a phrase that seems to be used when he's mentioned. There was a series of interviews on Patrick Bet David's Valuetainment YouTube a couple of weeks ago. Quite interesting to listen to. I'm not sure about how wealthy he really is, but, he appears to be a worry to many as being influential.
  18. What a lovely property. With these abandoned places, one has to wonder about the background behind their demise. Surely this would be a hotel/resort in demand.
  19. Agreed. After a few long-term relationships with Thai ladies, most do not give cards or gifts. It is a cultural thing. Just getting my half-Thai son to send a "thank you" to a generous British aunty is always a struggle.
  20. In their list of major important stations, they missed of NaNa! 😁 Actually, for many, Saphan Thaksin is an important station too. It is a shame that BTS and MRT are not linked with a common payment method/card. Would make travel easier and better value. I used the MRT a few weeks ago and they now accept contactless debit/credit cards at the entry/exit barriers which is really handy (I used a UK credit card). Hopefully, at least, BTS might do same sometime.
  21. That's pretty harsh. But it is a sad reality. Don't behave like an aggressive idiot and you'll still be alive.
  22. Agree. I feel much safer in Bangkok than London. Thais don't randomly attack. Never had a problem, even in dark areas, solo and very late at night. But then, I don't do stupid stuff or get into arguments.
  23. Same here. HomePro had a range of shapes and sizes when I last bought the stick on felt protectors.
  24. A good alternative, is to use a reputable lawyer and transfer the funds safely to their account. They then do the title transfer after checking all in order and then they pay the seller. This is what I did (twice) and it was seemless with no hassle - even though already having my own Thai account. I would not buy a condo without using a lawyer as they will check everything is legit.
  25. Whatever one gives, becomes never enough. You give them more, they give it to family or friends. Budgeting here is not something they do until the money is gone. It's a fact that many supporters here are aware of. Drip, drip, drip is best option. I give monthly support but ALWAYS have to top it up. I don't keep tally of total but it is likely somewhere in region of 40k/month. It is what it is. I'm still happy. Are you?
