  1. The Welsh and Scots I know often beg to differ. Regarding the OP topic. I would really be curious to know why he returned to the UK and what "intelligence", if any, the UK authorities had on Burrows. Hopefully this wqill be reported in the UK press at some point.
  2. Pay a roadside "fine" of 20,000 Baht is typical (5,000 Baht for Thais). Barber was talking with me about this today - 3rd road checkpoints. Agree with others above. It is so easy with Grab and Bolt that there is no reason to drive.
  3. Amazing that the cops even bothered. If one really wants a fast response from the Metropolitan Police, just tell them you saw Tommy Robinson in London. The cops will be there mob handed in an instant! RIP for the lady. This seems quite a complex story. That location is an expensive neighbourhood about 1 minute walk from Tony Blair's London home and Hyde Park.
  4. And the people were expected to beleive that Thaksin was crippled with serious illness. Just shows that the authorities treat the population as mugs. Lock him up where he belongs to serve his proper sentence!
  5. No money to be made changing a commercial port to a recreational area.
  6. Would be a perfect place to build riverside condos with lovely views. Anyone wonder why some want the port relocated? Don't Sansiri build houses and condos? Who's connected to Sansiri?
  7. In related news, scientists have reported unexpected healing of the ozone layer above the OP's house. Recorded levels of methane dropped dramatically recently and they are investigating the reason...
  8. I replaced old units with new Daikin inverter units 4 years ago. Increased with new units from 9,000BTU to 12,000BTU and 18,000BTU to 22,000BTU. Same physical size of the internal units. Saved a huge amount on electricity, better cooling and quieter too. Very good value.
  9. The immigration will enforce TM30 only if you need their service such as an extension (some offices and agents might not need TM30). TM30 is really so easy to do online these days although, as a Thai government website it's not always clear what needs to be done (when searching for submission to see if it's confirmed ONLY the LAST NAME must be entered otherwise it will say "not found"). Below is a copy of a recently filed TM30 which can be downloaded and printed from the submission system (I think it has to be retrieved with 7 days). The homeowner can setup the account online. Takes about 10 minutes and is instant. Filing takes about 2 minutes.
  10. Recently, all foreigners seem to be treated as "suspicious".
  11. In the UK, refusal to supply a specimen of breath at the roadside results in immediate arrest. Same as failing the alcohol breath test. Officer would accompany to hospital until dischaged to police for prosecution in court.
  12. No! Just NO! This should not be granted permission. Lest Thailand been seen accused of aiding and abetting Myanmar in against it's citizens. If these military officers (and family) crossed illegally into Thailand, they should either be arrested and detained on suspicion of war crimes, or simply forced back across the border into their own country (in the same way as ordinary Myanmar civilians are normally repatriated).
  13. FWIW and may or not work for the OP, a good friend of mine in the UK needed a Visa for Thailand to stay 90 days. He's married to a Thai lady. He, at 76yrs, was totally flumoxed by the e-visa website. I agreed to help him and he emailed me pictures of all the documents (passports, statements etc.). The main thing that wasn't clear was the financial requirements. It appeared that the amounts were applicable to 1 year visa or extension of stay amount (£10,000GBP) but he wanted only 90 days. I went ahead and filled out the visa application for him and uploaded all the documents (even though his income and bank balance was much lower than specified). Within 3 days he was granted the 90 day marriage e-visa and entered Thailand with no trouble a few weeks later. I beleive the website to be misleading and confusing.
  14. Let her go and protest in the biggest polluting countries and see how that goes.
  15. I do like a Thai Mojito but they can be a bit sweet. @BritManToo's Daquiri sounds good (perhaps less sugar) for me but the way it's blended to a slush is ideal for this hot weather. I'm just back from walking to the market and now enjoying a Sangsom Coke with lots of lime and ice as we get ready for dinner.
  16. Just bought a flat in UK and got it down from £225k to £208k. I know the market as I have rented in same development for 9 years and been looking to buy in the area for over 2 years. Vendor was stubborn but after a few weeks and no better offers I got the property. I reckon bargain value is £200k but the value to me is greater for a number of reasons. I have no intention of selling and can rent it in a few years for good money and then make Bangkok my permanent home. On the other hand, when a client ask us for discount on service, it depends how nice they are, what the booking is worth, and how busy we are. I'll sometimes give a token discount if I want the business but usually just say "no discount".
  17. Chequers, Sukhumvit Soi 4. Proper British pub (although quite a few yanks and global nationalities visit). Always decent conversation. Happy Hour until 7pm. Tiger draught pint at 100 Baht (other deals too). Nice service staff. Food good too. Major sports events screened also. Sit at the front for interesting people watching as the soi comes to life as the sun sets.
  18. No surprises here. Influential persons... Well connected for sure 🙂
  19. My thoughts exactly. With all the scrutiny on nominee companies, who would "invest" or put at risk, 22 million Baht?
  20. The article didn't say. I've seen his passport (which was posted on a private Pattaya group).
  21. DLT Morchit would not accept my Yellow Book/Pink ID card for renewal. I went to DLT Prakonong today and they accepted Yellow Book/Pink ID card. Very nice and helpful staff I dealt with.
  22. Even though I've been on Non-O retirement extension for 5 years, I've only ever done 90 day reports 3 times (during Covid) and now always travelling. This means I cannot get COR now. Also, the British Consulate no longer offers "affirmation of residence" certificate. My nearest Department of Land Transport office will not accept Yellow Book/Pink ID for DL renewal so today I went to a different DLT to renew and they accepted Yellow Book/Pink ID for residence proof. Definitely very useful to have! Same when I purchased a vehicle - the yellow book/Pink ID made registration in my name easy. Worth the effort in my experience. Others opinions will differ.
  23. Profession->Manager, Salary->$100,000, Reason->General montlhy expenses. That's all they need to know and get from me (any institution that asks). It's not their business but regulations.
  24. British. From Liverpool. Total idiot. So sad for the innocent young girls seriously injured.
