  1. Thanks for posting. I think I just found my new bike. Anyone want to buy a nice 2020 ADV150?
  2. Ordinary tourists and newbies are easy prey for all the old Thailand scams. Even those of us who are experienced and think we are wise can easily be caught out. Tourism Thainess? They need to recoup losses from the last 21 months don't we know? A sad indiction if this gets widespread in tourist areas. IMO it all really started to get worse in May 2014 and since then seems to be more likely sanctioned officially. A <deleted> show and sad to see FWIW.
  3. Agreed. Makes no sense whatsover. They will accept an affadivit and passport from a foreign country but not certain (very hard to obtain residence documents) from their own country. T.I.T.
  4. I had the old passport run around at DLT Morchit a few years ago. My old passport was 6,000 Miles away but thankfully after much discussion they accepted a email copy from my laptop. Keep those old passports to hand lads and ladies!
  5. They appear to do quite a good job of keeping the MRT running. Never heard any issues with water ingress. Some of the stations seem very deep underground too.
  6. My Car DL expires in next 6 months so need to renew soon. Previously I have used letter from embassy. I'm on Non-O extension but will not stay for more than 90 days next trip (so cannot get letter from Immigration). I do have yellow book and pink card. Does anyone know if Land Transport at Morchit will accept this?
  7. Surely train services are supposed to remove road traffic? Makes no sense to use busses instead. Cost of using MRT/BTS can be prohibitive for many people compared to SRT fares. Especially for those on very low incomes. I rode from Hua Lampong out east last year one early morning and was surprised just how many commuter trains were coming into the city. Going to Bang Sue instead will not work for many commuters.
  8. "Privacy" here in Thailand? No chance. I went through this too and would advise that you buy or rent the biggest piece of land possible as far away from roads, family and neighbours. Still then there is no guarantee the feckers will allow you privacy unless you build a 3 metre fence with electrified razor wire and a pack of loud, big dogs on your land. Wife and I bought 10 rai of rice field, built a pad for the house, embankments along the bounadry and planted with palm oil trees but still the locals walked over the property.
  9. Just for a comfort level I do this at home in Bangkok. Some Thais I've met will turn off the fan once the Aircon goes on (power saving they think).
  10. Some airlines will refuse this (or refuse you boarding completely) as you tell them you are not intending on taking the full route - look up the term "skiplagging". Especially if your ticket is truly EUROPE-BKK-CNX as a single ticket. IF you have a return then the return legs would almost certainly be cancelled too. IF your tickets were bought separately you should be fine.
  11. If Thai airways would only introduce the menu below at their "Puff and Pie" shops here in Thailand I would certainly be a frequent customer. They managed to serve up a very decent breakfast from LHR to BKK a few weeks ago although it was made in the UK. Black pudding on a Thai airways flight who'd a thought it?
  12. Agreed. Whilst there isn't much that can easily be done about the property, try installing new Inverter A/Cs, closing off rooms not in use and wearing less clothing (I wear just shorts and T shirt at home) in Bangkok. My A/Cs are set at 25 or 26c and despite almost constant use (with TV, Shower, Kettle, Computers and Fridge) my bills are typically only 800-1,600 Baht/Month.
  13. EON. They are all as bad as each other in the UK. I've looked at price comparisions and switched many times but each provider shows prices as clear as mud. It's run like a cartel. Consumers fleeced rotten. Essential services such as Electricity, Gas and Water should be run as public services. The way things are going with all the carbon net zero it won't be long before the lights start to go out with energy shortgages (and the sun rarely shines and wind don't always blow in the UK). IMO the future is new nuclear but that is unpalatable due to previous safety issues (new nuclear is so much safer but any nuclear has a bad reputation). Cost is an issue but governments should "grow a pair" and ensure that projects are properly funded without being ripped off by international investors, backers and technology providers (EDF and China spring to mind). Anyone interested in new nuclear and should look at some of David Ruzic's lectures which can be compelling viewing.
  14. My electricity price in the UK is .21 GBP (21 pence per KWH). More than double Thai prices.
  15. Just read a story online that a lady in the UK can't even get connected in a newly refurbished property as all the energy companies know they will be losing money due to the price cap. Time to renationalise now - and I can't beleive I feel this way as capitalist and libertarian.
  16. I just looked at MS Windows Thailand website and they don't seem to show a price for standalone Windows 11 OS. They are promoting buying a new PC with it already installed. FWIW it's a free upgrade from Windows 10 to any compatible PC. I have several laptops and Windows 11 is available to update for free on a couple of them. I haven't tried the new OS yet as Win 10 works fine for me and I see no need to upgrade at present. If I was buying a new PC then going for a pre-installed version of Win 11 would be a good idea to ensure compatibility.
  17. Same here. Bought a Vigo in 2005 for about same in cash. No discount, however was able to get floor mats, wood trims and some other stuff for free.
  18. If only we had such clear and transparent pricing of energy in the UK! With all the so called "competition" from the private companies it's impossible to tell the price per KWH unit (especially gas). At least here in Thailand, electricity prices are very reasonable but the lack of insulation and older air conditioning units can be a problem for many users.
  19. Khun connda, I propose you for POTY with this post alone. OK some others say that fireworks are going off where they are however you captured the mood IMO. Loi Krathong was usually a magical time and I have celebrated it in Nakhon Si Thammarat (unbelievable), Krabi, Lumphini Park, Pattaya beach, Wachirabenchathat Park and others. Tonight I'm happy to stay home in my condo. I think you are right about killing of the cultural events. Mai Sanuk Loi! Will 2022 be the 3rd year without proper Songkhran celebrations? Not that we all love them but is important for Thais and their happiness. You raise so many issues in your post which I totally agree with your sentiment. Thailand is not as it was and should be, and it's not just due to Covid which is a convenient excuse for restrictions and control on Thai freedoms.
  20. Ask the Thai guys in the villages. Could be possible that Somchai is busting nut more often. Would not be surprised.
